Jurassic Technology visit

Laika. The best dog ever. Sadly, the dog died in space. Actually, though I've now heard that the dog never made it alive into space and died along the way from shock. Either way, the Russian space dogs were heroic, but at the same time, treated like shit. This can't happen today. If it did, Michael Vick would still be in the NFL with a big grin. This exhibition of paintings is at the Museum of Jurassic technology in Culver City.

Neat furniture that's there just to be there.

The 3d section.

I don't know about these... but I like how the photo came out. The exhibit is actually really cool, and I like the fact that the sound that comes out is of field recordings of the location. (perhaps).

um, just think of it as a really elaborate art project. has little to do with actual history or documentation. both times i've been, there were at least a few displays that were broken, but that kinda adds to the bizarre experience in a way. the place is mysterious and absurd and totally rad.

This was one of the first stops on me & alice's LA trip in 2005. I loved how it seemed quite small from the front, but the exhibit spaces seem to keep meandering and hiding more great stuff in the back halls.

Also, their book shop is killer.

hmm, hane, i totally understand what you're saying. i interpreted my visit as that too, appreciating the experience as a whole and not by the individual pieces that were exhibited.

'mysterious' and 'absurd' is completely true, yet i couldnt help but to wonder if there was someone out there who's laughing at us ooh-ing and aahh-ing over something that's not of any significance, but simply because something was showcased in a museum form? kind of like mocking our gullibility and tendency to trust 'the organization' no matter what they say?

or did the exhibits really have something to show, and i just failed to see the significance of it? i was so confused...maybe that was the point!

ugh, it frustrates me how much i need straight answers, and i didnt get it here.

Why was it the best dog ever? Is Ham the best chimp ever?

In order to understand the Museum, you really need to sit and watch the introductory video all the way through. Or twice if you didnlt get it the first time. And listen very carefully.

Best dog ever? Because I said so. There are other great dogs, but this one is the best.

This will be the last weekend to see the space dog portraits, for at least a year. Poka Laika!
