Waffles and waffle-stompers

This weekend we went to that trendy new breakfast place on Sunset, The Waffle, not far from Amoeba. You know the spot is hip because it's open for hungry and hung-over nightclubbers (until 2:30 a.m. on weekdays and 4:30 a.m. on weekends). Other clues include the eye-pleasing design and the fact that the waffles run from 8-12 bucks!

Although I was tempted to get the vegan Ruben or chicken and waffles with "un-chicken," I had to go for a namesake dish since it was my first time there. Quite good--crispy on the outside and flaky-fluffy inside with plenty of nuts--but I was still hungry afterward. That's what I get for being cheap. Wendy got the vegan chili mac dish, which was totally hearty but not overbearing. Truly, tough balance to pull off.

We went with Martin ("real" chicken and waffles), Jenny (bacon waffles), and Margot (just starting solids), as well as some friends from Wendy and Jenny's lactivist crew (and their friends, too). Good luck to Heather, Bill, and Gus, who are being sucked up north by ILM's tractor beam. The Waffle is a total hipster spot, but I'd go back. It's not cheap but everything is quite good doesn't disappoint. It's something to keep in mind for a late night after a concert if you're with vegans.

Wendy and I hadn't been to The Trails since Eloise was born, and we finally made it back this afternoon. I've sworn to people that their apple pie is the best in town and today they proved their mettle again. It's just too bad our slice didn't have much crust on it since we're such big fans of the Griffith Park snack shop's pastries.

To be fair, I think the veggie snake dogs have gotten bigger and we did spot a world-class rat tail. Check out the kid's hair on the right. It's awesome!
