New classics

Working at GR is not glamorous. We work hard all day at the factory and log in extra hours at home. (For Eric, it's the same place.) But I love it, and I also get perks like meeting some of the best people around and sometimes getting packages from ones who really believe in what we do. This week, I received a sneak preview of gear for Fall 2008 from Podium. It probably doesn't hurt that I wear sample size...

First off, Lakai is re-releasing the Koston 1 with updated colorways. Boasting a cut that's as classic as a Dunk or Top-Ten, the design is timeless and practical. The shape is lean and the tongue provides ample cushioning without being puffy.

The insole is adorned with a familiar silhouette of Koston doing the infamous Fandango. Remember the image from our interview with the longtime Lakers fan in GR11? He was already a stud then, and his legend keeps growing.

Will the vulcanized sole help your front foot stay glued to the griptape as you grind down a rail? That depends on your skill, but they'll look good as you push with style--even if you're mongo.

Here's the Standard Hi from DVS. Premium materials and a subdued shape give it a designer look. Hence, its placement in the Luxe series.

I think the height is not "Hi" but medium--kind of like a Half-Cab. It'll lock you in without choking your ankles.

The inner tongue and insole have a modernist print for you, your loved ones, or other patrons at Asian restaurants with shoes-off policies to enjoy. Nice.

But make no mistake; under the insole you'll find evidence that this is a true skate shoe with cushion for pushing, popping, and landing.

Another vulcanized sole for maximum contact with your grip. Classic and proven.

I also received a T-shirt to add to my collection. It's super soft and adorned with pure geometry. Shapes, colors, and that's it. You know there's faith in a design and brand when it doesn't require a logo or explanation.

What does this say? I read it as "Luxe shit"... So true.

Size 9! And you? Is it taboo to ask for a woman's shoe size?
