Beyond Proposition 2

I was listening to NPR on the way home today, and it seems that Proposition 2 (which provides guidelines to limit cruelty to farm animals and create a healthier system to make food for humans) is actually treating the symptom (the separation of livestock from farms) of a larger problem (the government rewarding farms for growing wheat, corn, and soy used for industrial purposes instead of food for humans). Cal professor Michael Pollan has written an open letter to our next president outlining reasons why the country's food system needs to be overhauled--among other things fuel, energy, security, and health. I'm still for Proposition 2, but it's clearly only the first step of a much-needed major overhaul in they way the American government treats food production...
