Madonna's toilets

Before driving back to L.A., Wendy and I decided to go north a couple miles from where we were staying to have breakfast at the Madonna Inn on the south end of San Luis Obispo. The hotel is a California legend, known for its super gaudy decor and amazing cake. Check out the pimp chalices they use in the coffee shop.

In the background, you can sort of tell that the counter seats resemble a merry-go-round. In the foreground are trays and trays of the chalices (which you can buy in the gift shop for 15 bucks). Below is the steakhouse. The lighting is kind of off; the leather seats are actually Alka Seltzer pink.

If I had a wider angle lens, you'd see that the Flintstone-style rocke of this fireplace are sandwiched between the Nashville-on-steroids coffee shop and Liberace-fied steakhouse.

The Madonna Inn is actually known for its themed hotel rooms, such as cowboys (Yahoo, $239/night), nautical (Captain's Bridge, $179/night), and neanderthal (Caveman, $269/night). But if you're on a budget--like us--you can still get some of experience just by going to the restaurant's bathrooms.

Above, the men's room for the steakhouse has a waterfall that you pee into. Below, the ladies' room is super opulent. (Wendy took that particular picture.)

The men's room in the coffee shop has an interesting urinal, too. Kinda like a waterwheel... Yes, I tried them all. No, no one else was there when I took pics.

Check out the hotel here. It and Hearst Castle would be a pretty good pairing. If you're going all the way to the Bay Area, the Winchester House completes the trifecta.
