The Pains of Being Pure at The Troubadour

On Saturday night, my brother and I went to see The Pains of Being Pure at Heart at The Troubadour. I'm a big fan of the ultra fuzzed-out, super-poppy group from Brooklyn, and wanted to see them make the jump from indie mecca The Echo to West Hollywood landmark The Troubadour. (I also wanted to give them copies of the newest issue of GR, 61, which has a four-page article on them.) Yes, the place was packed, the sound was great, and the folks in the band were every bit as cool and cordial as I thought they were when I interviewed them.

Picked up some 7" singles from Kip at the merch table, and listened to each side at least four or five times this afternoon. Non-LP B-sides, colored wax, and just plain great songs... Nice. (No, "Ramona" is not a Ramones cover.)
The tour is only half-way over, so catch them if you can. The band also has a great new EP, which comes out on Tuesday. Check it out. They even got St. Etienne to do a remix...
