Sweets week

Post-deadline catching up with people continues. Today, I met my friend and cover artist of GR58, Stella Lai. She was on Sawtelle to pick up some artwork that she had purchased from GR2, and I used that as an excuse to visit gr/eats. Not only did she get to taste the tofu meatballs made famous by Rachel Ray's magazine, but Chef Nelson hooked us up with some cold ice cream on a hot afternoon.

Stella's been super busy painting, and showed me some of her new work. It's large in scale and epic in scope--shifting theme from the seasons to warfare. The pieces she described and showed me on her iPhone feature martial arts, ghostly hair, and other cool elements one might see in HK movies from the '80s. I can't wait to see her contribution to the GR Biennale at JANM next month.

This morning, Wendy and I dropped by Hero Studios/Banta world headquarters to meet the latest addition to their crew and drop off a tray of homemade macaroni and cheese for Bret, Happy, Kiki, and Happy's mom.

Mina was born over the weekend, but no mac and cheese for her. She's on a milk-only diet. The baby's loooking good, and so is the mom, who should be in rocking-out form well before The Lassie Foundation plays again or the Ray Barbee Band has a reunion gig. Way to go, Bret!
