Josie, Conroy, L.A.

I got a text message from Josie Ho (Chiu) this morning asking where she could get some good pancakes. At first I was gripping because I knew she and her husband Conroy Chan (24 Herbs) stay in Westwood when they visit L.A., and wasn't sure where what's good on the westside. But when she called to follow up and explained that she was traveling toward Amoeba on Sunset, the answer was obvious: Green Leaves on Hillhurst. I gushed that the eatery looks funky with ESPN on flatscreens and BC Rich guitars on the walls, but that the tropical pancakes with bananas and blueberries would freak them out. Of course, they were a hit.

Josie and Conroy came to L.A. to attend AFM and have been slammed with meetings, and this was the first day for them to bust out and hang out. Eventually, we met them and Eric on Sawtelle for dinner. Funny how the two get out of HK, away from all the gnarly paparazzi, only to have us take a bunch of pictures. (But Eloise will only get bigger, and who knows when they'll see each other again...)

Planning to see them one more time before they return home. I don't get to travel and visit faraway friends very often, so I'm grateful that Los Angeles is a place that a lot of people come through for business and don't mind staying for an extra day or so.

If you're looking for pancakes on the westside, you might try John O'Groats on Pico. Eric and I would go there occasionally for breakfast.
Eloise is growing like a weed! A good weed, mind you, like Queen Anne's Lace in a corner by the street when you haven't decided what else might go there. (And she's cuter, too!)
