A good loss

Last night, the GR softball team played Saracens in the final game of the Fall/Winter season. We gave up a big lead in the first two innings but tightened up the defense, made some timely hits, ran aggressively, and came up just short. It was fun to the bottom of the final inning, though, and if there's such thing as a good loss, this was one of them. Above: Jason observing my last at-bat. Below: Eric watching Bill take flight.

The season was uneven, with GR's record being around .500, and some of it has to do with my pitching in early games only (the ones before Eloise's bedtime). Not that I'm so great, but it surely prevented the team from ever getting into a groove. Anyway, I'm glad I got to play with the guys as much as I did, and it was cool to have Eloise attend most of my final games before Bill takes over as the full-time pitcher.

In other news, Chi busted his finger playing short on his work's softball team earlier in the week. He'll be joining me on the sidelines for at least a few months. On the right, flirting with Eloise, is Michael. He turned some sweet plays at short in the latter innings to keep GR in the game. There were clutch moves by Mikey, Jason, and so many other players. Can't forget Bill tagging out a runner at home or Eric's catching a meteorite in the outfield. I'll miss being in the middle of all that, but... I have to view my departure as another good loss.

Back: Eric, Sean, Jason, Mark. Middle: Chi, Mikey, me. Bottom: Michael, Bill, Hap, Brian, BK.
