Same drive, new lens

Talking and texting on cell phones while driving have been outlawed in California, but how about operating a camera? I got a new lens in the mail yesterday and couldn't resist playing with it on the way home... These shots were taken from behind the wheel at stoplights on my commute between Sawtelle and Silver Lake. First, the Annenberg Space for Photography in Century City, where an exhibit of prints by Walter Iooss and Neil Leifer is currently on display. I'm a sports fan and photography hack, and definitely want to check out the inside of this building before March 7.

Above, the backside of K-Town as seen from Hoover and First (I think). There used to be a really great vegan Korean buffet by that tower, which I believe is an ex-department store turned law school. If I were sitting in the passenger seat, I would have taken a photo of the tennis court that is nested in the triangular island surrounded by cars on the move, and is probably quite photogenic at night.

Gas stations are so Las Vegas with their neon. Or is Las Vegas so gas station? This is the where Silver Lake and Temple split off Hoover. There's a school that looks like a Jawa-owned droid swap meet vehicle on one of the opposite corners. This is really close to Wendy's parents' house, where I picked up Eloise.

Noticing that Eloise was lit by the brakelights of the car in front of me while waiting to turn onto Silver Lake off Sunset, I turned around to aim the camera over my shoulder. I have to work on the focus, but I'm happy with how the lens really sucks in the light. I didn't do anything to the image except make it small enough to post.

Here's the lens that gave our GF1 a nose job and an eye job. For a bit more, I could have bought a Ricoh point-and-shoot to handle these types of shots, but there's a ton of upside if I keep applying myself to the craft...
