My shit is looking pretty good after this last trip to Japan. Stocked up on Kikaida, Kamen Rider, Gorangers, and Zaboga this time. I spent a good amount of cash, and had I had more money, no doubt I would have not been able to control myself. I was on a mission, putting it simply. I hit so many goddamn toy stores and collector spots, people thought I was a freak. Now I can finally compete with my boy Hartsel. He's getting his shit sent from LA, so I had to import some more shit straight from the source to keep up. My man has the illest shit. My man Slick is no slouch either when it comes to the collection.
I know there's a ton of you heads that are into this shit.
Holla back. I want to know what you got and where the fuck you got it.

04-24-2001, 06:32 PM
Ahh man. That's the stuff I want. I grew up on that shit. I would skip Gorangers because they only remind me of the Power Rangers.

This past week I was starting to remember a few more characters like Inazuman, Hakaida and his brothers, Mirrorman, Rainbowman and even that candyass Robocon. I need to go back to the store and pick up something with Kikaida.

Tokyo's definitely the place to score major toys. When last I was there, I dropped major quiche on all sorts of cool shit. Customs saw me coming and were only concerned about whether I had bootleg Star Wars shit or not.

I nabbed a bunch of Lupin shit, a 12" Golgo 13 doll, a bunch of crazy posters, fashion magazines (that's important)and a lot of other crap. I can't remember exactly where I got everything because it was just a mad dash to find the coolest shit in the short time that I was there. It was a real bitch bringing back all that stuff though.

I had kind of a hard time bringing back the booty (not that booty, that's a different story), but I managed to cram all my goodies into the right spots and it worked out good.
Customs was a joke. Skated right through in less than 5 mins.

Yeah, they didn't check any of my bags or anything. They just grilled ne about Star Wars loot.

I got a few of the newer star wars stuff, including the slave 1 remake. I got the bomb Gimli action figure and of course I'm sure a few of you have heard of my "great yoda hunt" story, so I have him and count Dooku. Oh I just realized I've still got the lego monorail set at home along with my collection of Mcfarlane spiderman comics, Oh, guess I've also got two Starcraft action figures too, Space Marine and Protoss. I had a Zerg one but when I was in Korea one of the movers bought it from me.

I got Kubricks, M-Ichigo Godzillas, a shitload of
super deforms, some Ultraman Bandais,
Kikaida/Kamen Rider Hot Wheels, and
some Medicom RAH figures. My latest passion is
Wacky Wobblers by Funko. These are some of
the best looking nodders around.

Oh yeah, and I just ordered the Marvel Kubricks and
some Bearbricks from Ningyoushi.com.

the "oops i did it again" britney must be a classic.. ;)

thnx for the Ningyoushi.com link, good stuff.

i have some toys in boxes atm i am afraid.. i did collect figures for a while... i think i like my Transmetropolitan fig of Spider Jerusalem the best right now - the alternate version where he comes with his Bowel Disruptor gun instead of the two-headed cat and laptop.

Fuck, man.
Shirokiya has all this shit now that was once really hard to find, and I don't know if I'm stoked or kind of bummed on it.
Hakaida motorcycle Hot Wheels? A shitload of 'em.
New Jiro, Kikaida, and Hakaida mini-figures? Kick ass ones for 10 bucks.
Shirts up the ass, I'm talking like 15 or so different designs at least, (mostly kids sizes though) posters, cell phone antenna thingys, CD soundtracks, etc.
There was this one Hakaida (the anime version) figure that is about 18" tall, holy shit I wanted that bastard until I saw that it was 150 bucks!
I guess the demand for Kikaida stuffs is big enough to justify a whole section of the toy department in a major mall store.
It used to be really hard to find any of that kind of stuff, and it seemed like it was far more rewarding when you did stumble upon something special that you'd never seen before, at least that's how I feel, anyway.

got me loads of kaiju figures, more than a hundred, mostly from the Ultraman series. also 6 inch, 8 inch Godzilla figures. Some 24 inch Jumbo Machinders, assorted die-cast robots like Grandizer and his gang from back in the day. Medicom 12 inch Super Robots, Astro boy, Giant Robo and too many other assorted stuff to list.

shit, i have so many that i'm trying to thin the herd now. drop me a line if any of you guys are interested.

why'd you all have to get me started?

Ok, where do I start? I still have loads of toys from when I grew up in Japan. My Par Man "Booby" doll, Votoms "Brutish Dog" robot, loads of Gundam models, Ultraman figures, diecast Tetsujin 28, assorted Kubricks (Beat Takeshi Battle Royale Kubrick, Planet of the Apes, Reservoir Dogs, my SSUR Kubrick which Ningyoushi still hasn't sent me...grrrrr), a giant Devilman figurine, a giant Grandizer figure, an old vintage Ge Ge Ge No Kitaro plastic doll from the 1960's and more. Most recent purchases include the Michael Lau Lamdog Gold, Money Mark Traveller & Baby Milo Bape figure.

I still want to get me some of the diecast robots I've been seeing online like Combattler V, Mazinger, Raideen, etc. Shit's expensive!

They're pretty detailed.... it would be cool to make some custom clothes for em (a la jing!)... In terms of wish list.... they are really cool, but kinda cheaply made. The clothes are kinda sewn badly, and the figures fall alot. Tokyo Tribes is the shit, next time you goto toy tokyo as soon as you walk in, make short left and look up, they're on the top shelf against the wall next to the doot.

Yah.... I think I know which ones you're talking about! Meant to mention it in my ealier post.... but these figures are pricey! I guess they sort of supposed to be produced in limited quantities. In my experience those are rare, even the newer models like you have. The originals, forget it, those are seriously hard to find. Even if you do locate some, they would most likely be super expensive.
You never know though, its not uncommon to stumble upon some shit at the swap meet, or at somewhere like Goodwill or Salvation Army. Its been known to happen, my friend came up on 5 original Kikaida and Kikaida 01 soundtrack LP's in cherry condition for 5 bucks at Savers once.

Yeah, forget the vintage stuff. I won't pay a premium for
nostalgia's sake. However, I did find an old, intact 45 rpm
Inazuman single at my parent's house not too long ago.
And let me tell you, it did bring back some memories.

Besides, sometimes the packaging is cooler than the

i'm leaving on early on monday morning. its friday night 11pm now if that helps for a reference point. i'll check my mail tomorrow and probably sunday.

i been picking up some tinibiz (kubrick-like) of ultraman and kamenrider but the tinibiz stuff is not as common around here. tinibiz comes in large sizes too.

tons of kubricks in hk and macau. even more than the michael lau and the other hk toy guy.

All his walls are completely covered.... he's got 2 storage lockers that he rents.... fuckin psycho. I have weird moments in which I blow a ton of cash on collecting something and then it sits in the closet forever.

It all started in 3rd grade with Strawberry Shortcake. Then in 5th grade (approx. 1982), Cabbage Patch Kids, Smurfs and Michael Jackson trading cards. Then it was Atari games. I've also wasted moola on Mad magazines (not to mention "Cracked", and "Crazy"), comic books, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and more recently, Kogepan stuff, Homies, Mashimaro and Afro Ken. Plus I've got a kids' book collection that takes up half my house. I need serious help.

Two of my newest faves are Rodie and Babie. I first spotted Rodie - a fetichistic rubber blowup kids' hobby horse-cum-stool with stumpy legs - in the childrens departments of Taiwanese department stores and thought at the time it was kinda cool. Here in Hong Kong I've spotted all sorts of variations on it in the little hole-in-the-wall toy shops in malls here, like Rodie wooden clocks and dangly things, mini Rodies etc... Babie is like a baby version of Bambie - I'm assuming there's no connection but can't seem to find anything on it on the net. Never really noticed before. Lots of those too but I love the 12inch-high vinyl moneyboxes

Toynami... Dear FUCKING GOD. Please, anyone who buys robot toys, take note.

Anyone here into transforming robot toys knows that Shoji Kawamori's Valkyrie design is probably the sweetest transforming robot of all time, and the subsequent toys, from the Bandai 1/55ths to Jetfire to the Yamato Macross VF19...

Toynami announce they're making THE MASTERPIECE COLLECTION Robotech Vertiech fighter. They say it'll be the greatest version of this toy ever. It costs upwards of 70 bucks.

It's the biggest piece of shit I've ever bought. Hip joint broke as soon as i took it out of the box. I opened it up to see what fixing I could do and discover that it's merely plastic tabs that are hinging the joints. The arms don't fit snug. The wings can't sweep forward (and barely do) in Gerwalk mode. The die cast content (supposedly 60%) is a load of horseshit. Everything about this reeks of cheapness and sloppiness. And on top of that they threaten anyone trying to distribute Macross toys from Japan in the US with legal action.

Now Yamato have done a 1/48th scale Valk that will own and conquer all... Can't wait for that. Check this and drool:

http://64.246.24.14/macross/toys/148_proto/_proto_1_48.htm

As for myself, I'm big into Bandai's robot model kits... Dig the Patlabor redos big time. Been building Gundams since I was 12. But nothing, nothing... Can touch my Perfect Grave Eva 01.

I agree - I've read a few reviews on this redesigned masterpiece Macross VF19 and found that most of the buyers were really dissapointed due to the build quality. I went over to the local Manga shop the other day and checked it out. The MF19 was there and nicely packaged but upon close inspection I found that the paint looked as if it were caked onto the metal limbs and the details were poorly done as well. In a nutshell, it looked really sucky.I decided not to buy it because it just didn't fit the description of a $120.00 pricetag!

cerealkilla
08-24-2002, 10:40 PM
that sucks. you would think that they would at least equal Jetfire.

domu
08-25-2002, 04:49 AM
The Bandai 1/55th reissues that you can buy right now in various places as an import are for all intents and purposes minus the paint scheme the original jetfire. I think they just released Roy Fokker's VF1-S with FAST packs, which is Jetfire with all the extra armor, pretty much.

But the way to go is Yamato. Their 1/48th scales were supervised and approved by Kawamori himself.

The problem is Toynami via Harmony Gold threaten legal action against anyone trying to distribute these toys in the U.S. Hence the jacked up prices. Go Ebay for 55 bucks on the Yamato 1/60 scales. Transformation's a bitch but they're beautfiul.

hey evil,

thanks for the link. I'm not so much into the custom work (there are some exceptions like Jujube (http://www.all-talents.org/~jujube/) and Kyon (http://carnabystyle.com/ming-tea/)- i have a few of his Century Model dolls )but the Volks stuff is starting to grow on me. Their crazy (almost 2 feet tall!) Super Dollfie (http://www.volks.co.jp/c_goods/superdollfie/topframeset.html) line looks like a lot of fun to work with : glass eyes (eyelashes, too!), wigs, make-up, paints, cute gothic lolita clothes, etc. It's an expensive hobby though - an SD doll with basics for a one time customization (one look) can cost $500 US dollars alone....figuring that and the cost of all the other stuff I would probably want to get, if i had one, scares my boyfriend to death ;)

hey evil,

thanks for the link. It's an expensive hobby though - an SD doll with basics for a one time customization (one look) can cost $500 US dollars alone....figuring that and the cost of all the other stuff I would probably want to get, if i had one, scares my boyfriend to death ;) wow thanx Jing...those sites were dope..the glass eyed dolls are so pretty...Makes me want to start buying some..
great ! that is all I need... is to start buying/making dolls my kids can't play with...mean mommi mean mommi..heh..thanx if you got anymore please pm them to me ^_^

Right now the schedule goes:

Hikaru VF-1A
Max VF-1A
Fokker VF-1S (the one everyone's waiting for obviously)

Looks like the Do You Remember Love paint schemes.

No word on the updated YF-19 they're doing with FAST packs... Since the first set of YF-19's in 1/72 scale go for like 120$ on Ebay gotta get that when it hits.

Supposedly they will also release FAST packs and seperate heads for the three releases.

It was made in 2000, patterned after a customized Lain doll by Konaka ( doll fan and artist) and pretty pricey since it was made in extremely small quantities, from what I gather at Konaka's site -100?! - I've seen a few online doll shops carry it for 60-80 odd dollars but since Lain hit these shores, I've seen it go as much as $100+. Once again.... THANKS JING! Now I have to figure out if my brother is worth it.... hehe! I guess he's lucky I'm not a collector. Actually this might be perfect.... I don't no too much about figures/dolls/toys ect... but this really looks like something he would want and I know he's always lookin for stuff that's hard to get a hold of.

jing your the WOMAN ^_^ you always have a answer for every question I have. You rok!

Yes I am very much getting into the whole doll thing. I want more of them now..lol I got soo excited over this doll and my fiance only got it because it was lain..but after he realized that I had wanted to start the doll customizing he gave me a strange look..lol but he understands..he said he even stoped in the barbie section to look for like a bussiness barbie suit, something we could turn into a school girls outfit.HA!

I told him that barbie clothes is way hoeish and tacky in some parts too..that we would have to order her an outfit..lol. Watch out evil's going start making dolls!
I really like the jujube doll site you posted too. Thanx Jing for all the great info.

Those school girls pics you posted are cute! I like some of the whole goth lolita look, (reminds me of fruits) good inspiration for drawing characters.
That's why I love these dolls because I can pose them and not have to have another reference, plus they are mui mui cute. :D

Dude, the VF-1A came out end of December. I've had it since then. My favorite toy of all time. The VF-1S, Roy Fokker's Skull Leader, will be out in February. Since that's my favorite Valk ever, I'm down, but if you want a Hikaru 1A get cracking, most places are way backordered on them and prices are starting to rise. It's an insanely beautiful piece of toy engineering.

BTW Jing rules beyond belief, I have BitCharG Mach 5 now. go go go with my new 2.6 engine! I will smoke all of you... Until my dad runs over me with his DigiQ tank, I guess...

The Taktatoku's were reissued this year by Bandai, just as you remember them with a little better paint job. The old ones go for insane money. Ryan's talking about the 1/60th scale Yamatos, which are far less detailed but for my money the armored ones (featuring Fast and Strike packs) are badass. Yamato have yet to make a GBP-1S armored valk.

Those pics do not do the 1/48th justice, seriously. I've never ever ever seen a toy that better approximates all three transformation modes.

They're all out of the Initial D Trueno however, so if you really want one try here (http://www.nipponhobbies.com/radio/kyosho_miniz_ae86.htm). They've got it for $189.00 though which is really pricey (I've heard you shouldn't pay more than $120 for a Mini-Z racer) but it's the only place I could find that still has it in stock.

Even after swearing them off like a disease after buying all five of the doll releases last Fall, I went back and got two of the three new Spring/Summer Momoko dolls this week in the mail from my pusher, I mean, doll dealer. It's an Asian motif so all the girls are sporting bhatik fabrics and/or a cheongsam style dress. They're effing' gorgeous and the details on their 'fits are hot. Little frog clasps, embroidered belts, and 1/6 scale lacquered like mules.

I saw the blonde Momoko doll, the one I didn't get, up close and now am kicking my completist collecting ass. Would'a, should'a. the bitch is sold out, of course you know. Must fight urge to look on Yahoo Japan....

i just got this set of studio ghibli plush keychains of animal characters from the films.

im a newbie, so can someone please tell me which films these characters come from:

-the black cat?
-this green pear-like bird thing with whiskers?
-pig-like guy in pilot suit?

tank you.

peko-chan
03-10-2003, 06:58 AM
The black cat is Gigi, Kiki's cat companion from "Kiki's Delivery Service".

The pig with goggles is the lead character from "Porco Rosso" - The Crimson Pig.

The only thing i can think of that's pear shaped with whiskers is Totoro but why he'd be green is beyond me...

For all things Miyazaki/Ghibli in english, try http://nausicaa.net/miyazaki/films/

03-10-2003, 07:00 AM
ooooh bless you, jing. thanks!!! i think you got these right. i guess i have seen these films, but don't recall the titles. bad with names. checking site now.

03-10-2003, 07:01 AM
BTW: these keychains are so damn cute. will try to post pic later.

03-10-2003, 07:05 AM
ooooh girl, you got it all right! yeah, my totoro IS green. an olive green. guess he's supposed to be brown or whatever...

oh shit, one more for you: who's the reindeer guy?

the other two in the set (six came keychains total) is the black spidery thing from spirited away and the little white forest spirit from princess mononoke. cute!!!

peko-chan
03-10-2003, 08:28 AM
I believe the spider is from Mononoke as well, one of the animal gods. The reindeer if it has a bridle and saddle is Yakul, Prince Ashitaka's loyal steed. The forest spirit is a Kodoma.

I was recently over another fellow's pad and my jaw was permanently dropped at the sheer awesomeness of his collections, both toy and modern/graff art. <plug>There's a great book coming out by Chronicle featuring their collections called "Oh So Crazy Japanese Toys!" with a foreward by Rodney Grenblat</plug> Purty pictures and whatnot.

i got some sabuya toy...well more like a figure cause he don't move. its the first of ten traditional japanese warrior figures. some are in battle gear and some are in regular street clothes.

categorically its a candy toy and it comes with two pieces of gum. cheap but cool.

i didn't find any of it online so no pics for now. not even sabuya's website has it up. the first figure is a guy kneeling on one leg and he has a long spear.

what's really weird is that those Hulk Hands have been on the shelves since last Fall, a little too early to cash in on the movie. my local Target and Toys R Us have had them and i love seeing little kids throw fuck to the wind and rip 'em from packages to put them on. those things make some dumb electronic crashing noise when you hit them against something.

Funny you should say that, this one is the only BxH figure I like.

I'm a big fan of Kozik, that's why.
