<font size=1>does anyone know of any good resources to get information about Terry Gilliam's animation work from? i've seen a couple of books about his work as a director, but i want to know about <i>Yellow Submarine</i> and Monty Python. a book with plenty of pictures, not just a bunch of text. the man is one of my heroes and i know nothing about him.</font>

If you're into Brazil at all, the Criterion Collection DVD has a fascinating commentary by him on it.

Try Gilliam's book Dark Knights & Holy Fools, there is lots of good stuff on his animation in there.
i heard, right after "fear and loathing" was released, that gilliam was possibly directing a film based on "don quixote." anybody heard about this?
The Man Who Killed Don Quixote has been shelved indefinitely since the main actor fell off a horse and hurt his back. It was unfortunate because they were all set for filming with all the actors in place.
Good Omens, his next project is based on Neil Gaiman's "Good Omens, or the Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch."
Premise?
"This is the comedic British epic that ensues when the baby that is the Anti-Christ is switched at birth. As the end of times approaches, a demon and angel must team up to sort out the whole mess... including finding the Anti-Christ, who is now an 11-year-old boy."
Still looking for a distributor.
Production is expected mid 2002 with a possible 2003 release.

I really hope Good Omens finds a distributor. It's been one of my favorite books for years.
Well...maybe not actually. I dunno. The whole book vs. movie thing. Arrr. I think I'd still like to see it though.

from what i hear, there's a "rum diary" flick in the works, but that hst is totally involved in the screenwriting, so although it will be supercool and totally true to the book, i hear he's a real pain the ass to work with so it was having trouble actually going into production. here's what i know so far: johnny depp is back as the lead character. nick nolte, brad pitt and benicio del torro supposedly have a hand in it. i don't know who's who, but i'm sure you can figure it our by reading the book. i just can't remember any of the characters' names. i guess some no-name chick is playing the role of the hotass girl. i don't know who's directing it, but i heard that gilliam is working on something else right now. i can't remember what it's called though. and as for "don quixote," supposedly disney's butchering it in animated form as we speak for summer 2002 release.

Regarding Don Quixote:
8/12/02 - Talking to the London newspaper, "The Guardian", Terry Gilliam said this week that he still has high hopes that he will be able to find $40 million within the next year so that he and Johnny Depp can get together in September, 2003, possibly with a new cast (or maybe a mix of old and new), buying back the rights from the German investors. If this movie does end up getting made then, "Lost in La Mancha" may end up being the longest trailer ever made.

so is gilliam directing the grimm movie? it didn't say above and i wondered if that's something you might have left out. in either case, it sounds awesome. and a good avenue for gilliam to return to: folklore.
on the documentary tip, another gilliam-inspired documentary worth checking out is "the hamster factor," which is about the making of "12 monkeys." it's on the dvd.

Lost in La Mancha is amazing, though depressing! I have never seen a film fall apart so quickly or so completely. It is so depressing since the film looks to have been stunning, well at least from the pre-production, and the few minutes of footage that they shot!
I have never seen anything remotely this bad happen to a film!

Lost in La Mancha, aside from being a great documentary, was a fun tutorial on the film-making process. It's interesting all the things you learn from this kind of stuff. It always makes sense in retrospect, but to actually see how something falls apart lets you in on how it wouldn't fall apart. From what they showed of the film it would've been great. I was really sad by the end of La Mancha. Terry Gilliam sitting alone with his head in his hands was what I saw in my mind walking out of the theater.

Coming Soon (http://www.comingsoon.net/news.php?id=2857) has this news from an Italian Newspaper that is an interview with Gilliam.
Italian newspaper "Il Giorno" has published an interview with Terry Gilliam, who recently has been awarded a price in occasion of the Italian Festival "Capri Hollywood" and revealed a few interesting bits on his upcoming last dream "The Brothers Grimm," a 90 million dollar movie.
"I just finished shooting 'The Brothers Grimm,' starring Matt Damon, Jonathan Pryce and Monica Bellucci. We shot in Prague in six different languages: English, French, Russian, Czech, Spanish, Italian. It's the most expensive film I've never done. It concerns the brothers Grimm, who first pretend to save people in their village, then they find themselves in the middle of a real curse. It will be full of special effects: walking trees, flying wolves and a flock of crows doing incredible things.... Monica Bellucci is the Queen of the Mirrors, thanks to her the film becomes an adult fairy-tale..."
And a pic of Monica Bellluci in the film:

I just rented "Lost in La Mancha" recently. God, how depressing! I swear that Gilliam is either a masochist or the toughest director working today. Practically every film he directs he's constantly getting kicked in the teeth only to get back up again out of either fierce tenacity and/or spite. Also, here's a pretty good Terry Gilliam e-zine I just found today: http://www.smart.co.uk/dreams/
i would love to see "quixote" made. that's one of my all time favorite books.
anybody know anything about this? (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0410764/?fr=c2l0ZT1kZnx0dD0xfGZiPXV8cG49MHxxPXRpZGVsYW5kfG14PTIwfGxtPTUwMHxodG1sPTE_;fc=1;ft=20)
