<--- hatin.
dated michael's sister, now he wants to BE mj . . . maybe in 10 years he'll look like "off the wall" michael. i guess everything goes in cycles though. not much is really NEW nowadays . . .
still, let me see him dance besides on a video or award show . . . still looks choreographed to me! i appreciate the skills, but i like freestyled shit better . . . Jamiroquai would rip him up on the floor, no doubt!

Not if I have anything to do with it. Is it just me or does he remind anyone else of Steve from those Dell commercials? And no, that's not a good thing.

I admit it...I bought the JT album...Im fukin gay... but I was severely underwhelmed. Any comparison to Michael Jackson or Prince is undeserving. The saving grace is beats from Neptunes and Timbaland. The Neptunes could give Celine Deion street credibility..fo shizzle.

you could sort of say the same thing about usher.
they dont deny the influence of MJ tho. it's not like theyre saying theyre hella original and never seen Mike Jack dance before in their lives. that would be absoludacris.
and check the "we thuggin" video, im pretty adept at the harlem shake my damn self.

Ain't it interesting how two of the biggest influences in music and basketball are both 'MJs'---Michael Jackson and Michael Jordan..Anymore influential 'MJs?' Hmmmm....

. . . therefore my statement, "i guess everything goes in cycles though. not much is really NEW nowadays . . ." i do really wonder what Stevie thinks of Jamiroquai though (i have heard that he loves the band but that's over "the internet" so you know how that goes). here's what Jay has to say about it:
"Well, when you mention Stevie Wonder you mention someone who can play drums and keyboards, a fucking genius. Which I'm not. There's a great difference. Everybody's influenced so far. You cannot just copy... you cannot just sound like Stevie Wonder."
"I think that that accusation has to be dropped after a while. I mean, it's a bloody good impression to be keeping up after five years and three albums and about 400 live shows. It'd be nice if people could actually look and think, well, you know, I have actually done some stuff, I did write some of the music, I wrote the lyrics - just little things, you know, nothing special! "Inevitably, things will end up sometimes sounding derivative, because of the nature of the music. But if you put on a Jamiroquai record and then you put on a Stevie Wonder record, there's a million miles between them. The only small link between them, and let's face it, this Stevie Wonder thing started with someone going, 'who do you like?', and I went, 'I love Stevie Wonder', and the next minute, all I read was how I wanted to be Stevie Wonder, that I copied Stevie Wonder, that I'd nicked Stevie Wonder's songs, and I'd nicked his riffs and how he sings."
"What people have gotta remember is, they say, oh, you've been successful off the backs of black musicians and people who didn't get a chance, and they've picked you, the little white guy, to go forward. But then again, a lot of the magazines that write this are the people who didn't give them the coverage in the first place. And you left me to hold that spot. So it's no use blaming me - I don't run the record company."
in the end, i still love 'em both.

Don't like Usher either.
My sister was playing a Justin Timberlake song today, "Just Remember", and the first time I heard it I thought it said "Just be limber." That song blows.

opportunity lost and justin timberlake. by Remote.
one day as i was finishing up practicing at the driving range i noticed a fellow waiting for my spot. i turned around and viola, justin timberlake.
he says to me, "are you finished here?"
"yeap." i saw, and go about my way.
now if i had any type of brains i would have said. "hey you are justin timberlake, i didn't know you golf." and go on and strike up a conversation about his game.
then before the his bodyguards tell me to buzz off i would have said. "you know, if you are ever looking for someone to play golf with or want any lessons when you are in town let me know, i'd be happy to help you out."
i think that coulda been the start to a pretty neat celebrity teaching career.
well, if i ever see him again, i'll hit him up.

i don't think he's "good looking". my "hate you for being good looking" list consists of brad pitt, tom cruise, and . . . j kay!
who says i don't have a prob with usher? ;)
i dunno exactly what it is about him that rubs me the wrong way, but it's something. that's all i can say. :p

But it takes a real man to admit that they're that gay though, right?
Anyhow, i dont really like Sexy Back personally but at leasts its different and like a review said, he's gambling on a pretty strange vibe for whats at stake. Course, you can never be counted out with Timbo and the Neptunes by your side but I think we can give credit to JT for being a long time colloborator with those 2 producers and not just like a beat for sale thing.
I also like the Euro spy game thing he's got in the video, not so much the futuristic vibe but.....
The MJ talk will be obvious and why not, he's an outspoken idolizer of him but Prince? Thats gotta be Dre 3000. Also, if any white boy's gonna be Prince, its someone like Jamie Lidell or Remy Shand.
Btw, not sure about the rest of the disc but i dont even think the Sexy Back beat is any good. Promiscuous Girl is probably one of the better Timba productions in a while?

yk you crack me up.
that sexyback song is growing on me. i wasn't too sure about it at first.
i haven't heard the rest of the album, but that song sounds to me like timberlake might be acknowledging that he doesn't have the vocal talents of usher or m.j., so he's easing up on the falsetto r&b type vocals and going for a more unique style of vocals and production in order to stand out.
the vocals on that single are distorted and have kind of an odd melody, which i think is pretty cool.

at first i didn't like it. it didn't sound like justin and it sounded too coke-y. but then i was like, you know, this shit is awesome. coke is awesome. coke makes wonderful music.
okay not really but i don't know, i just liked it all of a sudden.
i was trying to figure this out, but why is it socially acceptable for guys to admit that they like justin timberlake but not with most other male pop stars?

I was reading a fashion-centric add-in to last week's New Yorker called "Fashion Rocks". It's about music stars and fashion. Anyway, there was an article/interview with JT in it. He's launching a clothing label with a friend. He also mentioned that the music vibe he's on currently is definitely about the 80s. So, the coke vibe you got, YK, is spot on.

that's the first time i've heard remy shand mentioned in like 6 years. is that dude seriously still around?
i dunno, he hasnt had any follow up to his debut which was like in 02 i think, but he is a one man bad like prince, diff sounds and all but...
i guess the current timberlake/land sound is kinda prince-y for the current gen so i guess i dont mind the comparison but its still a bit off i think. he is developing his personality, vision etc as an artist now and thats cool, certainly putting a distinct spin on things with the current album (more of a vision that anythings usher's done for sure) but i dont think its anywhere prince level overall...

Ok, why would anyone shit on Prince by making any kind of comparison like that? Is he writing and performing songs on a real instrument? He's a singer. That's it.

New peep on another track produced by Timbaland and JT for someone named 50 cents.

Well, well, lets not be too hard on the boy.....is Justin not credited as co-producer for much of the songs on this album? Im asking cuz i actually dont know and yes, thats a major difference between Prince and JT - Prince is one man army, JT has Timbaland BUT....i think the comparison is warranted. He obviously is not Prince or his level (only Ice Cold 3000 would be on that level today) but some comparably elements for this era are there i think. And i believe JT does perform keyboards in show now.
My one knock against JT is his relatively mediocre and indistinct voice. I think the whole artistic vision and sound for Future Sex is dope (esp for today's pop/r&b world) - personally, i think it has a bit too much techno cheese but overall, and esp compared to todays pop/r&b, he towers over most of that.
that new song with madonna is motherfucking terrible.
can we have an indefinite moratorium on vocoder vocals?

Michael Jackson called--he said to stop copping his shit. He also said that he was white first, whatever that means.

I've not listened properly to the whole album yet (still) but it was on at a mates place when i was there. What was a pleasant suprise was that one track samples J.C. Davis.. very obscure funk artist recently reissued by Cali-Tex records. Awesome!
I cant believe anyone's still using "... called" today.
And yeah, the JT/Madonna song licks. As dope ass as Timbaland is, his solo records was pretty shitty. Im not what intentions are behind producers like him and the Neptunes working with a slew of shitty pop acts, i do remember Pharrel saying he wanted pop music to not suck so much and i guess they helped in that dept but the Timbaland hookups with guys like Fall Out Boy, She Wants Revenge, etc, none of them work.
And why did he have to remix that Apologize song?
Ive been rockin the Justice remix of Love Stoned recently though, it uses the Justice the Partee beat (the Uffie rap one).
