I think the girl is hot shit.
What was her name?
Not the teacher.
Also, the part where Bill Murray is playing basketball with the little kids.
Hysterical.

Did you find the page Miss Cross wrote the Coustau quote on? I checked it out from the library and looked and looked for it, but, alas, could not find it. It was really hard too, because I only had the non-widescreen vhs version then.

Oh yeah I found it! I think I might get a blue flair tip and write the qoute in it for kicks.

Although I don't have David Halberstam's The Powers That Be or Robert Louis Stevenson's Kidnapped paperback they were on my mind to get.

One thing I would like to have would be Margaret Yang's flight plan (May make one and post it) and the notebook from Bottle Rocket where Dignan explains his lifelong plans to Anthony.

Obsessive.

Yeah, I was going to write the quote in if I found the page, in her handwriting too. My brother thought I was crazy to try that. I haven't gotten the other two books you mentioned, but have a copy of Kidnapped (not the one in the movie). Margaret Yang's flight plan and Dignan's notebook would be great to have, but nothing would be better than having the portrait of Blume and family that appears in the first shot of Rushmore. I read that Wes has it in his house and is not giving it up. Jason has most of the Max Fischer clothes and has no plans of giving them up either. Do you have the script (published by Faber and Faber)? It's got a great introduction by James L. Brooks and a forward by Wes about his meeting with Pauline Kael.

Lawnwranglers is good, but it hasn't been updated since November of last year. http://www.shootangle.com/rushmore/index2.html is really good.

Did your friend talk to them? If he did, what did they say?

My favorite is Out of Sight: "You wanted to tussle, we tussled." Sara Tanaka makes a much better Jennifer Lopez than Jenniver Lopez. Plus, Dirk as Buddy! The Truman Show was a great one too, I crack up everytime I see the paperboy.

hey frogbelly,
was just wondering where you got your copy of "diving for sunken treasure"? i am trying to get my hands on a copy and need some advice. i saw there were several available online second-hand, but i'm not sure what edition it is, so could you let me know which is the right one?

thanks so much!

oh, and there's a really awesome rushmore site here for those who haven't seen it:

check it out. it's very comprehensive and worth taking a look if you're a fan of the movie

Ah Rushmore, Yukio enjoys good Japanese plays but Rushmore touched a nerve. Poor misunderstood boy with such great passion. Yukio's favorite scene was a whiskey drinking Bill Murray giving up his soul and diving into the pool at his sons birthday party. A true Ronin in spirit, looking for some grade school teaching ass!

i like the scene where max and that little dennis the menace kid are at the airfield flying a kite, and margaret appears in the scarf. the exchange regarding the her science project being fake was really cool.

"i like your nurse's outfit guy."
"actually, these are OR scrubs."
" O R they?"
hahaah.

that movie is so rich. mmm.

i just watched it three times in the past three days. yay.

so weird, cus i was browsing through and i was thinking about starting a rushmore thread.

i just saw it again for the millionth time the other day, and it gets better and better each time. i totally think the scene where max gets out of the elevator is thee best shot ever in the history of filmmaking. hehe.

i dont think anyone has commented on this, but the soundtrack is fucking awesome... i read an interview on wes, and he said he wanted max to be in a suit cus it reminded him of the kinks. aww!

does anyone have any info on the new wes movie? i heard bill murray is going to be in it!

for info, try http://tenenbaums.shootangle.com , the first rt fan site, a division of the rushmore academy. also, rushmore does get better with each viewing, and can be alternatively sad or uplifting on each consecutive viewing. personally, my favorite shot is margaret's gaze towards max at the science fair.

Umbilicus
06-01-2001, 05:32 PM
so the scene takes place in a stadium parking lot. i was never sure whether it was that, or an airport. i mean, the building in the background kinda looks like a hangar.

YelloKitty
06-02-2001, 06:27 PM
so yeah, all this rushmore talk prompted me to steal the "diving for sunken treasure" at my local library. i was sweating bullets. i had to tear the page where they stick the due date card, and then i walked around a little bit, debating whether or not it'd be worth it.

then i remembered the time the librarians kicked me out of the library for laughing too loud (i was a lil gal, dammit), and i was just like, oh hell yes. i'm taking this book.

and then i walked out of the library slo-mo like and stuck my gum on the side of the wall.

thee end.

My favorite scene was Herman Blume's speech at Rushmore Academy:
"Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you."

Yeah, I think Sara Tanaka is a sweetheart too.

What's on his tie, it looks like someone's face, but i can't tell whose. Also, it looks like he is wearing Max's green velvet suit (black & white picture) which is really cool. In conclusion: I do not have cable. Pity me. Oh yeah, almost forgot. The new Phantom Planet (Jason's band) album comes out in August. It is supposed to be much better than "Phantom Planet is Missing", which at times seemed like an immitation of the Beatles in their early years. Also, Sara Tanaka said they are "actually good" and "much better than Dogstar", and, my friends, there can be no higher recommendation.

YelloKitty
06-08-2001, 10:49 AM
but phantom planet is one of the worst bands i have EVER seen. there are like, five guitarists or something (what the hell??) and that annoying gap model is the singer. ya know... the mellow yellow guy with the spikey hair. they opened for sloan (don't know how they managed to open for such a good band), and their 14 to 17 year old fans are just as bad as they are. when i asked out loud who this band was, some lil girl turned around and said "they're ONLY like thee greatest band, EVER!" and i laughed. then i noticed jason was in the band and then i cried cus they sucked so bad.

i know a couple of kids who used to go to parties thrown by the phantom planet members, and they all say the same thing... "i only went there for the free drinks!" apparently theyre all so. cali rich kids. hmmm.... i hope jason sticks to acting.

can someone give me the link to that jason photo?? pretty please?

i'd use it on the board at rushmore.shootangle.com and the board on somethingawful.com. the next chat is on thursday at 8pm pacific time at http://rushmore.shootangle.com/chat.html . keep in mind that we won't be talking about rushmore the entire length of the chat, as even that subject can get exhausted. i'll see you there, and enjoy the topic wars.

I think this is longest running
thread on the GR board.
Hm lets keep it that way.

Umbilicus
06-15-2001, 10:58 PM
not longest running, that title belongs to one of the more controversial threads, like "pear harbor" or the "the asian-white phenomenon", also, "what the fonk do you people look like" is rather long. however, this thread is up there, and like you, i hope it's amazing success is continued. i would like to thank frogbelly and yellokitty, as without their "geeky love" hijack this thread would be in the same position as "bottle rocket: or, how to try, fail, and still be happy".

can you change the size of the banner, and bring miss cross' head closer so that it is about as far from the text as sara's. also, it would be better if sara's full head was included.

yk and fb: you're very welcome. i'm honored that you enjoy this thread.

Umbilicus

ok, actually, i kinda like that too, and the fact that its the scarf picture makes it even better. and, it would be nice if miss cross's head was obscured in the same way. but the size needs to adjusted to the standard banner size.

This is my first post, let's hope all goes well.
I read all of the posts on here. Let me recap my emotions. You meet/know all those people, dang! I met Jason. He is great. btw Phantom Planet is one of my, if not, my favourite band. I was so blown away that you said they suck, but then you recovered by saying Sloan rules. Since they are probably my favourite over Phantom Planet. So, yay for you! I'm going to see them on the 7th. Have you all checked out the Rushmore site? I hope so. Everyone must go to the chat on Thursday, why? because dammit. Since the beginning of these gatherings on Thursday night's it's been the 4 of us. Who is us you say? Well, there's elosie, Umbilicus, Bleether, and I. (i'd say their real names, but i don't know how they'd feel about it). Moving on, last week was great, we had lots of folk, double the norm. Quite entertaining. I don't remember the last post i read so i can't responde to it, sorry. That's all for now.

I've never seen that Slacker film or the new one. Mostly because it's been screened, but not released yet. I don't care if it doesn't make it to the big screen. I just want to see the damn film. Thanks for the inspiration. I'll make it to senior. One way or another! I'm gonna get it.

1. post in every thread
2. even if you have nothing to say
3. keep your responses short, that extra time could be spent on other posts
4. when you finally do reach senior robot status, make a thread about your long journey. by doing so, you will thus be inducted into the senior robot society, which gives your posts added meaning and allows you to say pretty much anything

hello there all, im new to your fine boards, and would just like to say im a huge fan of rushmore.

it is sad because it is just weird and cultish. sleepy can be a little angsty, waco jesus has a tendency to post sideways, frogbelly and yellokitty usually ignore everyone else and play obscure quoting games tinged with innuendo, and i sometimes get angry when this thread gets out of control, but other than that, you don't have to worry about getting flamed.

I'm sorry about the
way I have behaved.

I shall start researching for
the banner.

sorry

don't worry about it sleepy, it's what makes you you. i've been able to name most of them, but not all. some of the characters from the movie are there. in the full size poster you can see wes and kumar, though it is very difficult as they are hidden.

Umbilicus
07-08-2001, 12:47 AM

07-09-2001, 12:21 PM
I don't if this has been addressed yet, but do you think that Mr. Bloom and Ms. Applebee would have gotten back together, if the movie kept going, as a couple ?

Umbilicus
07-09-2001, 03:37 PM
I didn't notice any attraction between Margaret and Mr. Blume.

Umbilicus
07-10-2001, 01:02 AM
I see what you mean. Like the way he holds the M in MMMargaret. Do you think he'd treat her better than Max would?

inside are photographs of selma blair by the one and only jason. they look really neat too.

Hmmm.....I finally looked in this thread since it's been here...what...five, six months now?

Holy Crap! the same four or five people have kept this thing alive all this time?!?!?

Umbilicus
07-11-2001, 07:24 PM
she's 30, wow. It's like Miss Cross all over again. ATTN: phan104-YelloKitty seems to have no problem with Sel-BLEH!.

07-11-2001, 09:54 PM
oh yes oh yes. it is his ex girlfriend WO HO! It's okay Yellokitty doesn't know of the deep horror I and Maria have felt for the one know only as Selh Belh... You are priveldge YelloKitty, never change.

i wonder if he'll write a song about her. hopefully, if he does, it'll be meanspirited.

YelloKitty
07-12-2001, 01:31 AM
nothing against selma... she just seems a little bit too old for jason. that's like... me hooking up with mason. hmm.

anyways just watched rushmore (criterion collection) and noticed that max fischer would have graduated this year. wow.

07-12-2001, 02:05 AM
Selma is OLD. and nasty. Girl buys Trashy underwear... I know too much I think. At least Mason looks older, not 12 like he had.

Umbilicus
07-12-2001, 04:02 PM
Trashy underwear, nasty. I'll be it has stains too. Let's not think about that. I think CBS cancelled Kate Brasher, dammit. Is Mason Gamble his real name? Yeah, Max would graduate this year, but I wonder if he would have gotten himself kicked out of Grover Cleveland beforehand.

Holy Schnikies! Edamame? That is so boss. Has he ever been stug? I heard that the chat went well (I didn't go), as it was all girls and there was none of the usual bickering.

Umbilicus
07-13-2001, 09:59 PM
The petty bickering ceased only because we weren't there to argue with each other. Once again, that's boss about your father, but don't put down your past so much. It's like Max pushing away Bert, just not kosher.

I'm having trouble with the sig picture showing up in other forums. Do you know what could be causing it?

dstorberg: I hope you mean Miss Cross and not Mr. Adams.

Umbilicus
07-17-2001, 04:05 PM
I hope he doesn't think you're crazy, but unfortunately, he probably thinks you are. I told someone she reminded me of Margaret Yang, had her watch the movie, and she still didn't get it. It was kinda sad, but oh well. I don't think she'll ever get it. Have you heard about Rushmore being shown on Comedy Central, with possible deleted scenes?

I shouldn't be saying anything though, my father has one of those farmer tans too. Aren't the shoes that Max wears the preferred show for hacky-sack?

I suppose the fun, or the funny begins now.

An aside: All the regular posters in this thread should be given "Rushmore Beekeeper" custom titles.

All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king.

07-19-2001, 09:38 PM
Frogbelly would you, could you possibly burn (or tape) that for me. My copy didn't come with one. I really really REALLY want it too. I'd thank you a billion times if you did. thanks in ahead. stacey.

didn't you say that you had pictures?

sounds like you two had a lot of fun and hit it right off. however, and i don't mean to be rude, but do clothes and fashion really matter that much?

well, no they don't. if FB was naked, i'm sure i'd like him just as much. maybe a little bit more. but it was just an odd coincidence we were wearing the same exact jeans.

i mean pictures of both. didn't know you were wearing the same jeans, that's a little weird. i hope they weren't the same size.
