Fuk that fat-lip bastard. I hope this album is his last. The man's talent is undeniable but he inundates the market with too much bullshit. I hope Jay decides to get out the music game and sticks to pushing Roca Wear and his new vodka. Nas is going to claim King of New York status with his new album, for real.

i'm not feelin jay.
and if pac could come back from the "dead" and reggalate that ass, it'd be funny. some posthmous revelations on pac reveal that many of his beefs were financially motivated (at least the ones he rapped about) but that doesn't diminish in my mind the kind of cult of personality, cult of dominance, and cult of alpha maleness that was strong in him.
Jay seems like a sniper, taking cheap shots never put his chin on the line when it counts.

Hmmm... Intriguing. I was planning on buying it on release day. I may wait for the fallout.
And, aside from some initial novelty related to "Show Me What You Got", I even thought that was a "meh" song.

^very old mewmew joke.
Jay never knocked me out too much, new stuff is not great, but I don't think any of his stuff is. BUT, it's all very listenable and today I actually listened to the actual regular radio for more than 5 minutes where they played some stuff back to back. I hope for more of that.
He sets the standard, like it or not. I like Nas, but I haven't heard much Nas since the "retirement" or anything like that. Pretty much crunk bullshit took over. He pretty much proved how much influence he had by taking that break

I get it Jay is all grown up now and is like super rich and has refined tastes.
I get it.
Nothing wrong with that but it's like so boring to hear him all super impressed by himself.
Doesn't he know that's what's expected of CEOs and retired gentleman?
He's not so special.
Stop bragging.
But Rae should really stop hating.

At least Hov at his boringist is way more interesting than the god Shallah Raekwon.

I like the Beach Chair (the one with Chris Martin). The lyrics seem a little stupid but whatever, I'm not paying that much attention at the moment.

agreed. even though he can ride on his name alone, that doesn't mean he has to release shitty songs. i've never been a fan but from the tracks i've heard in the past few yrs it's not hard to see that the ruggedness has been replaced with a "guess what i just bought?" attitude.

The thing that separated Jay Z in the past, I think, is the way he rapped about coming up and having things. Although the subject matter was always incredibly narcissistic, Jay had a way of making his story accessible enough to allow his fans into his world. In a way, his struggle became your struggle, and his success allowed you to dream of someday overcoming whatever prevailing obstacles were in your path. I think Jay revolutionized the idea of the self in hip-hop, or at the very least embodied it.
The problem is that now, while all he raps about is still himself, his story does not connect with what young poor people of color are going through. Jeezy, TI, and Lil Wayne are spitting the truth. I can see myself through Weezy's lyrics and that shit is inspiring. I play "Bury Me a G" off the upcoming Jeezy every morning and that shit gets me ready to conquer the world.
But these dudes wouldn't be able to personify the come-up of people from the struggle if it weren't for Jay. So respect to Young Hov, but he ain't young anymore, 30 is the new 40, if anything, and while he deserves the crown of "Most Accomplished Rapper Alive," he has been passed in the game, because that's the way the game is.
"Pour out a little liquor/ Bury me in some Evisu jeans/ A USDA top and a throwaway glock/ Yeeeeaaaah/ Bury me a G, nothing more, nothing less/ When I get where I'm going I just gotta be fresh..."--Jeezy the Snowman

Well Raekwon has already put his mark on classics. Raekwon on Only Built 4 Cuban Linx kills it like no other.
Goes on my top 10 of all time, maybe even better than Illmatic.

True dat, but you can make the argument that Raekwon was a one trick pony. Plus, if you analyze Cuban Linx you can further make the argument that Ghostface and Rza were the soul of that album. If you look at Jay-Z's body of work it would probably outweighs Raekwon's.
But then again you can say that Jay totally stole the Tony Montana steelo off of Cuban Linx for Reasonable Doubt. But what do you expect, Jay is from Brooklyn.

i've never been impressed by jay. I never liked his flow, i barely like most of his albums enough to d/l like, half of em, and he might have been the illest shit in 2001, but to me he was the "instant legend" rebound MC that people invented to fill the hole left by pac and big. I never felt the "realness" out of him.
Whereas rae, ghost, canibus, even mike jones seem genuine, or at least used to.

http://mediatakeout.com/Exclusives/Jayz_Buy_Album.html
December 8. In its first week on the market, Jay Z latest album Kingdom Come sold an impressive 680,000 copies. But the numbers may not be what they seem. MediaTakeOut.com received an anonymous email from a person claiming that in an effort to inflate sales figures, Jay Z may have purchased his own albums.
The full text of the email is printed below:
Just wanted to let you know that the "numbers" that Jay put up are probably fake. I work at Def Jam and everyone here knows that (Jay Z) bought more than 200,000 copies of the album himself. Ain't that some (EXPLETIVE). I guess money really ain't a thing for (Jay Z).
He was all up on the BET Awards saying "Numbers don't lie." Fake (EXPLETIVE)(EXPLETIVE).
And there seems to be evidence to support the tipster's claim. MediaTakeOut.com has learned that in its second week on the market, sales of Kingdom Come declined by 81% - a drop off that's almost unheard of in the record business.
just watched that Lost Ones video.
this is like the OPPOSITE of the new nas. great beats, mediocre rapping.
