I was a late bloomer - that and my mom was uber protective of me. I went to see MC Hammer after i'd got stationed in Korea the first time, back in 92. I was 20. It was the only show to go to. Please Hammer, don't hurt 'em.

Journey/Black Sabbath/Cheap Trick @ Oakland Day on the Green. 1978. I got tales for days about that show. I was 12.

The Tubes at San Jose Civic (1979) was the first "real" club show.

Todd, I saw Cheap Trick open up for Foreigner in 1978. Cheap Trick of course blew them away. The next day at school everyone had their Foreigner shirts on, but I sported the great Cheap Trick T-shirt. Everyone hated them except for this one girl who was enormously tall for and eight grader, she had the same Shirt. We bonded.
I just talked to a coworker here and the first concert she went to was Vanilla Ice. Poor thing.

Cheap Trick rules! Man, those guys were out there. Bun E. Carlos always with the tie and the cigarette on the drums. Rick Neilsen was wild, too. When butt rock bands were coming out with double neck guitars, Rick showed up onstage with a guitar that had 5 necks! Surrender is one of my all time favorite songs.

Live at Budokan was my favorite album at the time. I never heard of them until that record came out. Looks like they had a huge audience in Japan at the time.

Greg Kihn Band ("our love's in jeopardy, baby") at Great America in Santa Clara. I was in 8th grade so it must've been 1982. In 1983 I went to my first "real" concert, the first "new wave" Day on the Green (Police, the Fixx, OIngo Boingo, Madness, the Thompson Twins). I went mainly for Madness. I proudly wore my Fuck Art Let's Dance shirt to high school the next week.

That Day on the Green w/the Police, Madness, the
Fixx, Boingo, Thompson Twins is something of a
uniting factor for a lot of us thirty-plus SF Bay
Area cats. Its amazing to find out how many people went
to that show.

Day on the Greens were mostly rock affairs
(see above) with an occassional Funk on the Green thrown in.
This one was the Day the New Wave Weirdos took over.
Mods in full suits and parkas sweating it out in the
summer sun with wilting goths, makeup smeared, sipping
sodas in the stands.

I, too, was there mostly for Madness and I wore my
"Fuck Art, Let's Dance" shirt to school the next day.
Its in a tattered ball in my dresser.

Great day, great memories...

BDP in '89 at the PNE in Vancouver. It was at the "AquaStage", which, as the name suggests, is surrounded by water. Just near the end of a great show, there was a HUUUGE gang fight right across the water from KRS-1. He didn't even skip a beat. After, I just missed getting autographed album from D-Nice. It was a dope show.South Bronx, SouthSouth Bronx!!

my first concert was nine inch nails back in 94 or 95- whenever 'downward spiral' came out. me and a few of my friends had my sister drive us out to the bus stop (we were only 14 or 15 at that time) where we took the bus to the concert. the problem was that the bus dropped us off in this ghetto ass neighborhood. a couple cops drove by and asked us, 'do you know where you are?' we said, 'no'. and they told us how bad the neighborhood was and how we'd probably get jumped if we kept on walking around. so, they told us to hop into their cop car and gave us a ride to the concert.

my bud, jason, was sweating like a pig cuz we gave him all the weed to carry. meanwhile, i'm sitting on this bag full of hard metal things- i like to think that they were their shotguns. the cops asked us what concert we were headed to, and we told them, 'nine inch nails'. and they got all excited and said, 'sweet! is it gonna be like the pantera concert?? we wanna kick some ass again!!' (apparently, the past week, pantera played and a buncha metalheads ripped up the seats and started throwing them around)

we soon got to the concert and all these kids were dressed in black w/ makeup and shit, and the cops fucking dropped us off right at the front. it was fuckin sweet. we asked them if they would turn on the lights and siren. they said they would have, but it's illegal for them to do it for no reason.

i'm just glad that i got that metal phase of my life over with.

The first time I ever saw a band (besides going to the Hollywood Bowl with my parents when I was REALLY little) was The Grateful Dead when I was 10. My best friend Brooke and her mom lived with her aunt (her mom's younger sister) and her illegitmate hippie baby. One weekend, when I was spending the night her mom, mom's boyfriend, aunt, aunt's boyfriend and these two other chicks loaded us up in a station wagon and we drove to Anaheim and hung out in the parking lot of some stadium.

It sucked, and began what has been a lifelong hatred of hippies.

my first ever concert was:

Tina Turner at the (then called) Great Western Forum back in 1984 when i was like 13... my brother and I was forced to go by our Okaasan(mom) who was a HUGE Tina Turner fan when she was still singing with Ike... and she said we needed to see a real singer...

Consequently, the funny thing is there was a scene in "Whats Love Got to Do with It" when Tina Turner was making a comeback that kinda showcased that concert... and i was like.. "hey there should be two little asian boys in the audience"... haha

He sticks his head out the window and yells "Hey man, I'm a creep, I'm a creep. Thom looked to the car and smiled. People on the street we're like what the fuck. After reading all the previous post I feel pretty old!!

1st: KC and the Sunshine Band. Six Flags, Atlanta 1977. I was 14 and went with my cousin and his girlfriend. They hook me up with her friend and during the concert she wants to sit on my shoulders so she can see. To bad she was on the heavy side, but I was the nice guy so I did. Lasted about two songs and told her I had to go the can. Fucking back was killing me for days.

2nd: Heart " Dog and Butterfly Tour". Nancy Wilson was skinny then and looked pretty good. Ann Wilson has always been hot. Damn you Cameron Crow. If I flipped the names sorry.

3rd: Head East and Tommy Shaw was the special guest. Panama City, Florida. Spring Break. Broke out of church camp for that one. Got busted by the whole church as me and a buddy tried to slip in the back of the church during midnight service. We pop our head up in the last row and everyone is just looking at us.

Pretty fun memory growing up in the south!!

After that, I was scared of LA, and stayed in the foothill suburbs until the mid 90s.My second Concert was the Pixies at the palladium; that was the last time they headlined in LA.

My first concert experience per se was the Vans Warped Tour back in 99. I had bought the tix hoping to see Cypress Hill, and figuring it was in the OC. To my surprise, Orange Show Fairgrounds meant it was all the way in San Bernardino!!!!! It was a cool concert. All day long many mini stages, and various booths. On the big stage i got to see eminem replace Cypress, Suicidal Tendencies, Pennywise and a couple more I can't remember. The highligh was having a hot ass girl in cut off butt huggers ask me if she could sit on my shoulders to see the stage. :D

Damn I'se old!

First show was Max Webster, someone I forget (Y@T maybe) and RUSH!! It was 11 days before Farewell to Kings came out. I didn't really like them, until I saw them live. Now I still have a slight soft spot for them, but haven't listened in years.

First Punk show was Code of Honor, 1980. First time I was in a pit.

STONE TEMPLE PILOTS back in '92 (?). Redd Kross and the Meat Puppets opened for them.

I liked the atmosphere almost as much as the music. I spent a great deal of time looking around at all the weird pierced, rock 'n' roll people in the audience. The old guy sitting next to me lit up a piple and actually offered me some (I declined, but this was the first time I was ever around any sort of drug).

my first parents-free concert was a Freddie Jackson concert. There were 4 old ladies, and I mean old, passing a joint around. In between puffs they would hold their hands up as if testifyin' to Jesus Christ and yell, "Fredday!" and then take another hit. Those ladies were cool. :p

Styx, '79, Cornerstone Tour, 5th row seats. I loved them until they came out with that "Mr. Roboto" song.

Then the next concert was Thompson Twins and the Eurythmics. I don't know what year that was.

'Twas the summer of '99 I hit 3 shows that year. The first being the Warped Tour where I saw Pennywise, eminem (filled in for Cypres Hill), Suicidal Tendencies and a slew of other rock/punk bands. That was followed by Mana/Santana a few months later.

Don't remember the year (I'd guess about '98), but it was the Beastie Boys, Asian Dub Foundation, and Rancid. Odd lineup, but it was an awesome show!

MC Hammer in 1990 when I was 10. Sadly the amount of concerts I've been to can be counted on one hand.
