I must admit that I was/am a fanatic as well. Started playing back when beta 3.0 came out (10/99) and still play. However, I certainly don't play as much as I used to(thank god). Maybe a couple times a week now. It has sucked many hours out of my life although I must say that I got pretty good at it. I go by "montoya,inigo".

i was introduced to cs a couple weeks ago at school and now i can't quit. we play on our lan at least two hours a day. some kids in my class are still finishing work from last quarter due to their addiction. i should learn by their example and stop now. it's cool, i can quit whenever i want.

I play Urban Terror fairly regularly after work, helps me to unwind after a hectic day. I'm sure I've seen the {GR} tag on some european servers.

I don't mind losing, but having Malibu's Most Wanted yelling "Yeah nigguh! Yeah nigguh" in the mic drives me insane. Funny how they don't pull that shit in the cafe or when mom is home.

I'm starting to dabble in CS on my friday lunch hour at a gaming cafe. For years I ignored it since I never had a fast computer or connection. Plus I like more realistic shooters and games that respawn you quickly after dying. It's starting to grow on me and I like trying to build my skill up...the constant dying sucks.

Reading the CS forums gives me a headache. An anthro-socio-psycho-linguist would have a field day deciphering all that gibberish. I finally figured out what "Ice World My World" is all about.

Any suggestions on good pistols and weapons for a noob like me?

the best way is to read the stats. I tend to judge cs weaponry in the following way
1) Stopping power : the damage zones don't really matter unless you nab a headshot so this is number 1
2) Accuracy: at long range this is the second most important factor
an assault rifle or sniper rifle are mandatory
2b) rate of fire: when going around walls & through doors you won't have the time to get off many shots shotguns are king here cuz of their stopping power, but smg's work better if you're outnumbered(cuz you don't have to wait between shots) or are going in alone(not advisable)
3)the final thing is mag capacity. it's only important if you walk into battle unprepared. this is why you reload everytime you enter a safe room. If you have to worry about mag capacity, you're either not using a strong enough weapon, or not aiming before you shoot.
There are a bunch of weapons that work really well in the game but it's more about personal preference than the weaker guns are all much easier to control, but you'll have to hit a lot to do enough damage to take down your opponent. However the downside with big guns (esp. handguns )is that they're much harder to handle and as a result often miss.

For a noob i'd suggest using a good assault rifle in place of a sniper rifle an smg at close range & not using the desert eagle as your sidearm, cuz it doesn't work well as a noob weapon. also stock up on a couple of grenades as they're the best way to rack up kills in close quarters.

it's been ages since i last played.....but for the most part, when i see my friends play? the shit has not changed *at all* same ass boring maps, same ass boring weapons, same ass boring tactics (everyone rush a choke point) and dance-shoot-jump-shoot.

i've moved on to bigger and better things, like: magic the gathering and watching pegasus' and unicorns fuck....
