"But what a lot of people want the GP32 for is EMULATORS because its ARM CPU can be set upto around 133 - 160MHZ (compare that with the GBA's 14MHZ) its capable of running pretty much all the old classic consoles, even controversially the Gameboy, Gameboy color & Advance! Current emulators include SNES, Sega, NES, PC Engine, ZX Spectrum, Commodore, MSX, GBA etc etc. the older systems run perfectly including sound and they run at the CORRECT full resolution - the GP32 screen is easily big enough to do that, only the SNES & GBA emus are a little slow, but this is expected to change as the emulators make more progress."

Korean? And released in 2k1? I've never heard of this thing before... it may look like nintendo will have some competition.
It would rock if you got a 1024mb CFcard and can play divx on it :-)

I knew about this thing for AWHILE. They originally had two seperate designs, one large and one big, they scrapped those I guess and and there is this current model. It is nice. They encuarage small development companies as well as people making their own games. I think the idea is that everyone can make their own games and then trade them. Capcom is the only big name Japanese developer that has a game for it, the rest are Korean and small comapanies.
I am not sure if the company has any plans to release it internationally, I would certainly want one, these things are fucking awesome. Check out gp32.com

i've just spent the last 6 hours doing some research on the GP32, i think i'll get my bro to send one over for me.
i think the problem is that GamePark are excellent techs but not so good on the international taking over the world thing [a la sony], so there's some grumbling re: games, development, communication, etc.
the strength seems to be the grassroots userbase and open nature of the system, as seen with the emulator crew, especially on a handheld system.
also, they don't have the money to promote globally so they're a bit slow with support etc.
could go either way, its a good idea though, kinda exists in an game interzone. we'll see, if i get that unit shipped anytime soon, i'll keep ya'll posted.
they seem to be really big in France for some reason:confused:
i think if the coders and demo crew get behind it, it will be cool

I think I read on Joystiq recently that GamePark just went under or something.

you could be referring to the other company that was formed when the engineers split.. [into Gamepark and Gamepark Holdings]
their [Gamepark] machine the XGP was a proprietory system more like your standard handheld console..
Gamepark Holdings makes the GP2x..
this is the article?

i like that its an open system, plus things like copying divx files straight onto the SD without re-encoding and being able to output to tv, including games etc.. and screen resolution
also has ported PDA apps and stuff like that..

linux based, but they're violating the GPL and not releasing the source (though I haven't kept up with this for a few months).
I know two people with one, both fairly hardcore geeks. One is tired of his, and is thinking of selling it (possibly to me!), and the other is an game developer / demo scene guy, so he loves his.
I think the wow factor would get pretty old for most normal people pretty quick.
