View Full Version : anti-persona thread

many recent threads have got me thinking about online personas and how ppl act differently here than in real life. and sometimes i just want to be me, not some caricature of "shampoo" that ppl can condense into 2 or 3 signature sentences or phrases.
so this is a place where you can be who you are without thinking you need to stay in "character".
after all reality is a construct: deconstruct it.

i would like to think that on-line i'm pretty much who i am off-line.
...
except the silences don't come through as well through a computer screen.
...
especially the awkward ones.
I actually tend to be pretty much the same offline as on. Man, that's sad.

for me the whole mystique of being someone else online is kind of gone. its not that i was ever not myself, i just was able to express more in an social arena through writing than i was in real conversations and interactions with people.
that was like 4 or 5 years ago. i guess ive changed a lot since then. also, messageboards is not such a new thing to me or anyone else anymore. now posting online for me is less about finding people with shared experiences (tho that definitely factors into things), and more about expression of ideas and finding and sharing information about things.
but then again, i dont exactly have 'friends' on this message board like i feel like i have at other places. so i dont feel the need to have an online personality.

This is a Matrix thread! But instead of being our cool, leather clothes wearing selves, we get to be the people we are. Wearing ratty sweaters and eating gruel! Sweet!
But I digress...
I'm pretty much the same person online as I am offline, as many other bots have already said. I have generally the same brand of humour and demeanour. And like Jinzo, in real life I (can) curse like a Russian sailor.
I suppose the only difference is that online I talk more, and that's simply because I have the opportunity to formulate my thoughts and responses. Whereas in real life you gotta be on your toes as you have less time to think/react.

I am equally as dull offline as I am online.

It would be a strange if "ryanation" suddenly slipped into the language of the nation.
Kind of like hearing newscasters say "24/7." I find it bizarre for some reason.

i'll shine a little brighter if you rub my head...
but then, my head's not shaved...
so that makes me equally dull...

There's an idea.
Somebody with photoshop skills out there needs to take a pic of dan rather with the ryantion banner held up behind him.

hmm, nice avatar...
well, i'm pretty much the same wherever i go. i daydream a lot, so i have multiple personaes in my head, but they don't go anywhere. 'sides that, i have enuff trubble constructing one personality; more than that would really tax me.
btw, i think uncomfortable silences come across pretty well on these boards. or maybe i'm just imagining it...oh dear.

I'm probably more serious hare than in real life only because facetiousness doesn't translate well to text.
I'm wearing a cardigan.
In terms of reality: it's all in your head. If you died today reality, along with everything else, would cease to exist.

^I said "hare".
No difference - this is just me. Although I may speak a little more freely on the lounge than in public.

that would be cool if you could ryanate in real life.
like you know how with some people you have the same conversations over and over again. you could just ryanate them and BAM. shit is over and done with.
