i love them! i like their earlier stuff too.
It's just PUFFY, dammit!!! They the real Puffy. That other dude is P.Diddly, or whatever. And he sucks, they rock!!!
Pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-Puffy!!!!!!!!!
I know they're just Puffy, but they didn't want stupid Americans to confuse them with the guy who used to date Jennifer Lopez. What do they sound like? They don't sing in English, right?

As with most modern Japanese pop, the majority of the lyrics are in Japanese punctuated by the occasional English word/phrase/sentence.
Puffy has been around a looooong time in Japan and their sound is Jpop but a little more eclectic and organic because they can actually play instruments. I would say they sound like something between Jrock and Jpop without forgetting that requisite cutesy taste.

Well, It used to be hard as hell to get their stuff on napster because of that other guy.....
Jpop but with a real 60's type flair courtesy of Okuda Tamio who basically IS Puffy (he writes the songs and produces and made up the band)
to read more about him try this site...

I was gonna say.... sounds like P5.
You never hear about them anymore... is it cause they aren't as perky as this Puffy stuff? P5 is a damn sexy band. I'd take sexy over perky anyday!

Ah.... that would explain things.... that sucks. So now Puffy can do the same thing (but with their own Barbie Dolls) and get away with it...
Grrr....
That sucks though, they put on a damn good live show.

Puffy have a variety show on TV, do cutsey stuff but not frilly over the top cutsey. Lots of their songs have passages that are very Beatlesque. Overall pretty happy carefree music. I think they're pretty big in Taiwan. There were Chinese versions at the end of their recent best of album.

Shit... nine years is a big difference... which one of you had issues?
The ladies of Puffy are 27 or something like that, maybe older.

neither of us had any issues. we are both healthy, sane individuals. shampoo may not quite agree to that, but it is true! :]

Are you joking? Shit... 17 years?!?
I'll take all this defensive stuff as admission of guilt. Issue ridden boys/girls....
The first 30 years of your life are pretty important formative ones, wouldn't you say? I (and I'm not alone) would say that a SIGNIFICANT age difference is a sign of SOMETHING going down with one person or the other. Primarily, why is that person in a relationship with someone who is pretty far removed from their own life experience?
I don't think it's disgusting or deviant, it happens all the time, I just think its funny.

Dang.
Before I was just a defensive rice king....now I'm a defensive cradle robber. Shoulda quit when I was ahead. *grumble*
It's funny, I never considered age to be a barrier to a relationship, I've dated women up to 11 (I think) years older than me as well and it wasn't a problem. I just need a goofy dorky girl who wont dump me if I decide to start dancing with her in a crowded department store. If she's got those qualifications, age doesn't really seem to come into it.
Back on subject, does anyone know if the American-Puffy-Amiyumi version of "Spike" is different than the Japanese-Plain-Ol'-Puffy version of "Spike"? Hopefully no cheesy English versions like the American Dreams Come True album a few years ago?

No, get it right, you're a defensive rice-king cradle robber.
And I don't think age is neccessarily a barrier, shit, look at you! But I do think it is reflective of something going on between people, not neccessarily a good thing all of the time.

if your in love with puffy, i`ve heard a bunch of different things that i can`t keep straight. but i think that ami i currently dating one of the guys in Glay. and i think that Yumi is currently in the midst of divorce proceedings. and i think they have a new single coming out soon. but i think no live shows, because one of them broke her foot. this info is highly unsubstantiated.
and de rio, from jet cassette, is my favorite song.

I read about these 2 in an issue of GR.
Just downloaded a video off the net. Boogie Woogie #5. The vid was recorded off of MuchMusic! I never knew they played off the wall videos like that. Probably aired during their Wedge block that I never know when it's on.
I made it a point to download some of their music too. Green Apple is a wicked track.
Aggghhh!!! I just checked http://www.junkmagnet.com/music/jpop/puffy.html, they played in T.O. in July! I can't believe I missed their show. Same thing happened with Shonen Knife. I got into them with their Happy Hour album and found out they played a show here that summer. Then they broke up. I hope this doesn't happen to Puffy, I'd be a shame if I missed out on another great group.

Just listened to their album 'NICE' at Tower's import section. More addicting catchy sounds, but the $35 pricetag squelched the impuse buy. According to their website a domestic version will be released here later this year. They have a DVD of their 2002 USA Canada Tour (you'll need a region 2 compatible player)

Been listening to the new one (Splurge). I think I like it better the Nice. Hasn't got much attention. Checking the website, I've already missed the tour, I hadn't even heard about it. I saw the record in the store by accident.
John Spencer shows up somehow. I dunno if you'd call them both washed up or what. Some fun songs tho.

I like it more now than the first time I heard it, I really like the Basket Case cover, but I prefer Nice.
It seems I got the American edition, which doesn't have Basket Case. Heard it live tho, s'alright.
Why the hell would they leave it off? Wonky english covers are the biggest reason Americans buy this shit!
This version also includes the Teen titans theme again. What a botch.
Holy shit, this cannot even be called the same album!

i just got the US version, i like it a lot. is the japanese version worth getting?
actually, yesasia.com has the korean version, which has the same tracks as the japanese version but costs less.
Looks like the Japan version has the songs Shall We Dance, Onna Machine-Gun, and Basket Case.
But it leaves off Call Me What You Like and Go Baby Power Now (w/ Jon Spencer). One of those collector bullshit deals.

Shall We Dance is Call Me What You Like sung in Japanese, and Onna Machine Gun is Go Baby Power Now in Japanese.
Shit, Onna Machine Gun as a title is a million times better.
Ok, it's not that different then.
Basket Case still could be a college radio hit at least.

I dunno, I think I like it more just because there's more singing in Japanese. That's just me, tho. I'll ysi it if you guys wanna check it out.

They are much much for skirt-wearing.
Circumstances would have to be extreme for a Puffy show not ruling.

Key Club is small. The sound is great. You can easily jump on stage to give Ami or Yumi a kiss on the cheek. This is not a little kid band from Cartoon Network. This band is loud and definitely kicks ass. I called the club and ordered my tickets already. This show will sell out so you better make your move soon.
