Anyways, seeing as how i will partake in this event I will be event coordinator. i will need a pm from all who will be going or plan on showing up after, before or during and suggestions as to what to do after(i.e dinner, barhopping, drinking etc.) so that I can post it, figure it out and hand out the according maps and such.

Anyone hitting up any cool stores this weekend in LA? IF you're near the GR store, please hit up the worker (bill!) for a stack of postcards to put down at places. That would be nice. We're trying to hit some, but I know we won't make it everywhere.

Thank you to each and everyone for making the night so memorable and wonderful for us. Seriously - we were very nervous about our sophmore show at GR - it was literally giving me Hershey Squirts and i had a bad dream last night that at 9PM there were only two people in the whole store shaking their heads in disgust.

Thank you all for not allowing that nightmare to come true...We now need to get some real sleep and do nothing for a day or two before we get back to our other projects. Stay tuned....

08-17-2003, 10:55 AM
A bit crowded and warm inside, but overall very cool and nice to see an enthusiastic crowd of art admirers (guess we should be thankful we have electricity to enjoy such things!)

Dan, I'm the guy who asked you if you ever saw "Yellow Submarine" since the drawing of the alligator in your new book reminded me of a Blue Meanie (that's good thing, by the way!).

Best to you in your art career.

And kudos to Eric and Martin and GR staff for the food and whatnot (though I did have to splurge on some curried beef nearby afterwards).

Later I went to Cat & Fiddle (bar) in Hollywood and met two other guys through a mutual friend who also went to the show. Small world!

Let's try to coordinate a Robot board poster meetup next time. Would be cool to put some faces with names on here next time.

Over and out....

Great show.
Dan is a complete freak for having nightmares about no one showing up. obviously it was waaaay far from the truth. I picked up the book... did anyone else get it and do you also think it's printed a little dark? It could just be the artwork or my reading light, but it seems like it printed a little darkish.

Kozyndan really is like a modern day Albert Bierstadt. Instead of romantic american landscapes they have dreamy and engaging city scenes both with immense detail that refreshes and stuns you with awe be also pulls you in wishing you had a magnifying glass to grant you closer inspection. Truly Wonderful

yes it was nice to see all of you last night.

it was a pleasure meeting some of you all for the first time, and some of you all for the second time and some of you all of the 1000th time, but it was such a beautiful evening, and it was spent beautifully.

sadly i now sing a dirge for bill, but i hope he's enjoying the ripest fruit that life has to offer. Sail on, Silverbear...

Hey Souther,

Thanks for coming out to the show. The hi-tops were samples that were sent to us from Japan, they are in production now. Our Japanese Rep. will probably be distributing them in the US in a few months, so hopefully you will be able to find them in a few select stores this fall. We shall see...

Naw they non bots. A lot of them are there to hang out at the "cool artsy" spot on Sawtelle so they can tell their friends they went to an art show. pppffftttt... Posers.

kozyndan
08-17-2003, 11:06 PM
That's true. No one would recognize me as a bot if I was seen at an event, although I am one...

From my experience GR events have always had the lowest concentration of scenesters of anything around, particularly as far as art shows go.

Also they could have been all our artist friends, who are not scenesters, but are actually part of this "scene" as it were and are coming out to support us. (To them, the bots would look like the scenesters. it's all relative maybe?)

If anyone else has pictures from the opening (besides wonki wonki) could ya send us some? Kozy and i didn't take a single picture the whole night - doh!

That's a good question. They sure look like Converse All-Stars, but the samples we have had no indicia on the inside of any kind, so they could be knock offs for all we know at this point. They are being produced by a women's clothing store in Tokyo called Cher and will be limited in quantity, but I know little beyond that at this point.

It was my favourite show alongside the Ai Yamaguchi exhibit way back. The small pencil illustrations were just ace, and some the new larger works were the bees knees. I was guilty of having a huge, goofy grin like the photo above after seeing some of the hidden gems in the pieces. Kozyndan for California State Governor!

Only complaint is that the people looking at merchandise should scoot away from the walls so we all can get a look...more than once I was being blocked cuz someone wanted to go thru a whole magazine or book (without buying it!), right in front of several of the gallery works.

The photo of Bill behind the counter was bittersweet.

you should start using esoteric board trivia as the litmus test to see if they're scenesters or poseurs or OGs.
