I don't think it sucks per se, but it has slowed down and become much more serious. I liked the light hearted banter of winter and spring. You guys are dorks, but I'm a dork too and I'm content with the knowledge that I'm surrounded by dorks that I think are cool.

As far as I'm conserned GR will always be a cool board and it's occupants are what make it cool. Originality aside (I hate trying to be original because someone has always done what you just did), I still think there's potential for more good threads whether or not some of them are posing in a similar manner to previous threads.

I'm still cool with this place.

so the fact that people dont search for old posts is what makes this board go down the tubes? thats kind of lame. yes, people should use the search engines, but in some cases there's nothing wrong with starting a whole new thread about a certain subject. but i also understand how people get pissed when a whole conversation gets ignored by a newbie and the newbie acts like he or shes the first one to think of something here.

boards are always going to attract new people, especially as either the website or the product gets more popular. there are definitely newer people ive observed who seem pretty right on and intelligent, and there are definitely some losers getting on board as well. its like anything, a good band, a neighborhood, a city, a clothing label, or a person: in its inception and underground state, its raw and original; when it gets more well-known, lets just hope it doesnt sell out or cheese out and grows well. for a message board, lets hope all the wanna-bes and people who dont get it move on and all the truesters stick around.

Chas, I remember that when you first came to the forum, you were very personable...but now it seems your motive is revenge to all due to the inhospitality you may have recieved. OK... Maybe I'm part of the problem here as a recent adopter of Robotic principles, but I've experienced this before on other specialist boards, and I think I'm qualified to comment from experience on what's happening here.

As a board becomes more popular, it will without fail become more argumentative, less lovey-dovey, and to an extent less conducive to in-depth discussion. However, once the regulars get used to the fact that the influx of newcomers isn't going to stop, it settles into new patterns. It's already happening in the Ghetto Blaster - everyone has learned to step around the trolls, and as soon as that happened they realised that their attention seeking didn't work and confined themselves to one little clusterfuck thread.

As a board takes in new people from outside its core constituency it gets faster, snappier, and in a way stronger. You end up with cliques, clans, clusters, sub-groups within the body of the board, but fuck it - you learn to deal with it. You will always mourn the early days where a group of funky intelligent individuals were revelling in the discovery of a new meeting place, but you can never get that back. Time is a one-way deal. I aint an old schooler here or nothing and totally dig the opportunity to chat with some folks with similar backgrounds AND interests and also realize most e-forums, period, are all about a little jibber-jabber release but I get enough of that done with people in real life.

I enjoy coming here to talk about the shit i dont get much chance to with them same people because they arent interested in GR type shit.

It's because of people like me that boards tend to go down. I need to broaden my horizons more, but I just like this board more than most any other. Sure, DDRFreak is fun and 1337.com serves its purpose, but, really, I just love all of the different characters and atmosphere here.
