this thread will probably never get as much posts as the computer one.
but any who....
my antenna broked and i'm looking for a new one. i have one of those dorky star-tac phones. i seen some stubby antennas online. are those decent? or just nice but less useful then the original?
Sadly I don't know too much about the antennas. My cell now has no antenna. The phone I had before, an Erickson, I had replaced mt antenna numerous times with antenna gifts my friends kept bringing me back from Hong Kong. I never really had to research it myself, so I guess I'm no help.

Hey, that's me when I was doing the live broadcst from the park.
The foil on the head is not there to boost the signal, btw. There were a lot of birds in the tree is all.

ok, so who's going to make the switch? the FCC law kicked in on Monday and you are now able to switch wireless providers and keep your mobile number.
i think i'm going to wait till Jan or something and just wait till they work out all the bugs. ;)

Does anyone use their service?
I have T-mobile. I have a cheaper plan than that, but it rocks compared to the AT&T one I had. One person will say Yay!
and another Boo!, so I guess it's personal preference, you know?

DUDE! Hehe, it's a MESS. Even after all the WLNP (wireless number portability) training, conferences, and printed references I still don't know wtf I'm doing. It's WPR this, WPPR that w/the OSP and NSP, then gotta call the NPAC if something goes wrong. You have to place a request to the OSP (old serv prov) and wait for a response, which takes 30 mins. If you screw up on the info (has to match) you gotta request AGAIN. ARGHHHH!

I swear to God that Motorola designed antennas on certain phones to break. In particular, the older Startacs and the relatively newer v 60's. I broke that damn thing twice already on my latest so I went on line and bought a bunch of replacement ones for cheap. Like 2 bucks each. Otherwise I'm paying the Verizon store 11 bucks every time it breaks. Now I can go there with a replacement 'tenna all ready to go and they'll have to install it for free. Save myself 8 bucks (shipping and handling, you see).

ATT is the standard bearer here I think.
SO! ANYWAY, I need to get a new phone! My SonyEricsson T68i has crapped out after falling in the.. yeah, crapper. Just water, thank goodness, but I think it's toast. I have been drying it out, but still nothong. So, I could give them $25 for the same phone that has bugs in the Calendar fxn and that can't survive a couple seconds in a puddle of water. OR I could give them like $100 - $300 (?) dollars ( ! ) and get a camera phone (with a calendar that fkn works.)
I want a flip phone. "Cos otherwise my screen is always getting greasy! What a suck design! It just doesn't work out. And I don't want any fucking lint ending up behind my screen either! And I want the photos to be jpegs, dammit! So I can actually show them to people who don't have the same obscure technology as I do.
So, with all that in mnd, which pnone should I get??? Or are camera-phones going to be the pet rock of the '00s?
Maybe I should think about an actual decent digital camera with good porting ability.
Babbling 'cos I've had like 11 hours of sleep total in the past 80 hours.
Let's see, that's like 1/7th of my time sleeping instead of the usual 1/3rd or so. Hmm, less than half my usual slep for three days. And last night was actually only like 70 minutes of sleep. Not healthy for a sloth like mee... hence babbling.

ATT has a better phone selection than Cingular and Verizon. if you want a camera flip phone from ATT, you might want to check these..
NEC 525
Panasonic GU87
Samsung v206
Motorola v600 (coming soon)
except for the NEC and the Motorola, i believe ATT has already stopped carrying the above phones. however, if you go to an ATT reseller, you might be able to scoop up some leftover inventory. or you can buy an unlocked GSM phone on eBay and use it with your ATT SIM card.

You mean a regular ATT store? Or like an "ATT's Rack?"
Oh, reminds me: I was visiting the bay area over christmas, and I had to get a power cord for my Ericsson, 'cos I left it at home. My mom had called ahead of time and they said they should still have plenty in stock. So, we went there straight from the airport and it's kinda a madhouse with holiday shoppers. I find a sales dude, and he says thay've been out for a week or two. My mom's all, "Well who told me you guys still had some... (dipshit)?"
dude: "I don't know, it's hard to keep track of some of our stock." (Bullshit / prevarication.)
MOm (to dude) : "Well, that's fucked." (God I love her.)
Me: "Ok, well, nice job..."
On my way out, I see the Ericsson section, and sure enough, there's MY cord for friggin' $29.95...
Then I'm standing in line to get rung up, and I figure I owe it to the guy to correct his misinformed ass. "FYI, you guys DO still have some over there with the Ericsson stuff."
dude: "Yeah, well, I was busy with another customer when you asked me."
Me:"Whatever, dude."
I walk away as Mom takes my place as harasser of Mr. Dickhead-digging-himself-deeper-in pigshit.
Mom: "You see, the problem is you misinformed us, then just make excuses about being careless. You said you ran out at least a week ago... See what I'm saying?"
< I can't remember what he said next, but it was more double talk. And really, taling back to my mom. And nobody but NOBODY talks back to my Momma, except for ME. I was pissed at this jerk-hole already for being such a jackass dink sucka.>
Me: "SHUT. UP... Jeeze."
dude: "Excuse me sir?"
Me: "You're giving guff to my mom here! That does NOT fly, man.. Forget it!"
I look at him like *You're asking for a pink slip, fucker!*
Dude, mutters: "{..don't tell ME, fyi.. something something...}"
Me: "You know what? Forget it dude. You messed up and it's over. <waving him away like a small child or a stinky smell, palm down...>
He finally shut his punk-ass yap and as I was waiting to get rung up by some other sales-guy, I noticed he was no longer on the floor after wrapping up his "big sale." I woulda knocked his friggin block off if he had come out into the parking lot to confront any of us. Don't EVER fuck with somebody's momma. What a stupid fuck. I guess I look like somebody that most folks can push around. But anyone who knows me knows I don't take shit.
My mom, bless her, returned the power cord later for a full refund after I had my way with it for my trip.
'Toothing' craze goes underground
Sunday, April 18, 2004 Posted: 10:45 PM EDT (0245 GMT)
Toothing fans are often strangers using public transport.
_
_
LONDON, England (Reuters) -- British commuters take note -- the respectable person sitting next to you on the train fumbling with their cell phone might be a "toother" looking for sex with a stranger.
"Toothing" is a new craze where strangers on trains, buses, in bars and even supermarkets hook up for illicit meetings using messages sent via the latest in phone technology.
"Toothing is a form of anonymous sex with strangers -- usually on some form of transport or enclosed area such as a conference or training seminar," says the "Beginner's Guide To Toothing" on a Web site dedicated to the pursuit.
It is made possible by Bluetooth technology which allows users to send phone contacts, pictures and messages to other Bluetooth-enabled equipment over a range of about 10 meters (yards).
Users discovered they could send anonymous messages to people they did not know with Bluetooth equipment, spawning a craze dubbed "bluejacking."
Jon, aka "Toothy Toothing" and the guide's author, explained toothing was born after he was "bluejacked" by an unknown girl while commuting to work in London.
After a few days of flirting, she suggested a brief encounter in a station lavatory.
"The meeting wasn't a romantic thing -- it was purely sexual. Barely anything was said," he told Reuters via e-mail.
He said potential toothers begin by sending out a random greeting -- usually "Toothing?"
"If the other party is interested, messages are exchanged until a suitable location is agreed -- usually a public toilet, although there are tales of more adventurous spots such as deserted carriages or staff areas," his guide adds.
Jon, who's in his 20s and works in finance, estimates there could be tens of thousands of toothers from all sorts of professions and lifestyles. Certainly the Web site's message board is busy.
"Any toothing on these trains?" asks one poster about services between Cambridge and London, prompting positive responses from "Dannyboy" and "Zeke."
"I'll be around London Bridge mainline station around 9.45 - 10 a.m. tomorrow if anyone's interested...," another poster called "Boi" wrote hopefully.
While some happily recount their successful encounters, others suggest there are a few teething problems with toothing.
"I tried toothing in Tooting (south London) last night ... not a device to be found," a frustrated "Snowdog" posted sadly.
Although clearly not what the industry had in mind, toothing may lead operators towards similar, more mainstream projects.
Novelty factor
Last month it was reported that a team in Boston had created a service for cell phones called Serendipity, an wireless alternative to online dating.
It allows subscribers to store their personal details and what they want from a partner and when there are enough similarities between two people and they happen to be in the same area, it tells their phones to communicate with each other.
Dario Betti, of the British-based consultancy Ovum, said bluejacking had really taken off, helped by the fact the service was free.
"The element of the unknown, that you are connecting to someone around you that you might not know, it's a novelty factor that is helping it to start," he told Reuters.
If Jon and those who use his forum are right, toothing is certainly livening up life for some bored commuters.
"A lot of my day's taken up with a soul-aching commute into the city, and that just feels like dead time," Jon said.
"Flirting is fun, sex is fun. We're just employing expensive, complex toys to find the most basic form of entertainment."

This phone is really a mini computer and I highly reccomend this if you are looking for a cell phone that takes high quality photos and acts like a multimedia center.
Plus the the onboard 6MB of memory is nice in addition to an expansion slot which is currently holding a 128MB card.
There are tons of free softwares to be had over the internet.

for those with series 60 phones...
EPOC.Cabir (http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/epoc.cabir.html)
EPOC.Cabir is a proof-of-concept worm that replicates on Nokia Series 60 phones. It repeatedly sends itself to the first Bluetooth-enabled device that it can find, regardless of the type of device (ie even a Bluetooth-enabled printer will be attacked if it is within range).
The worm spreads as a .SIS file, which is automatically installed into the "APPS" directory when the receiver accepts the transmission. Upon execution, it will display a message then copy itself to a directory that is not visible by default. The worm runs from this directory whenever the phone is rebooted, so it continues to work even if the files are deleted from the APPS directory.
Once the worm is running, it will constantly search for Bluetooth-enabled devices, and send itself to the first device that it finds. There is no payload, apart from the vastly shortened battery life caused by the constant scanning for Bluetooth-enabled devices.
Type:
Worm
Infection Length:
15104 (caribe.sis), 11944 (caribe.app), 11498 (flo.mdl), 44
(caribe.rsc)
Systems Affected:

You don't want either, unless you seriously want a tiny phone. The latter is the GD55, we carried that about 6 months ago. Speaker phone, and polyphonic ring tones, that's it. Hehe. . Neat little phone though, but you won't find anything for it.

how do you like this phone? i think i need a new phone and this one seems to fit the bill perfectly. all i want from a phone is that it's small and has a speakerphone, i've always liked panasonic phones for those reasons. where did you get it from? it's pretty expensive when you buy it directly, without any rebates....... -_-;
also i'm thinking about getting a different plan. i'm spliting my time between LA and OC. i use few anytime minutes, and don't roam about at all. most of my phone usage is me talking on the phone at night. what's a good plan? i might stick with at&t, which hasn't treated me too bad so far. right now i have the non-gsm plan...

I'm currently in the possession of an LG L1150. It's a temporary test phone because we're thinking of switching to a GSM/GPRS service (we're currently on ATTWS's national TDMA service).

Man, I don't know if infrared would be any better. I ended up emailing the picture I took to myself. SpamAssassin on our mailserver tagged the message as SPAM. Ha!
There are two problems I tend to have with flip phones (and why I haven't gone to one yet):
1. That stubby antenna. Can easily get broken off in my pocket (where I usually carry my cell. phone).
2. If you answer a call with the phone flipped open, you can't continue conversation while closing the phone.
It's why I still carry my Nokia 86xx. If our company switches over to ATTWS (soon to be Cingular) mLife (GSM/GPRS) service, the phone I'd probably shoot for is one of the nicer Sony Ericsson phones. Or that new motorola V3 or MPX(?) if either are out by the time we switch services.

I think I was talking about that with someone in that "mobile tech" thread.
My understanding is if you can set the phone so you can answer an incoming call by pressing ANY button, then you should be able to use the hands-free while it is closed.
While it was not a Moto flip phone, an LG phone I had briefly allowed you to do that. However, it would not allow you to answer a call and then flip the phone shut without hanging up on the call. Not sure if the Motos are similar in that regard or not.
You may be able to download the user manual for either of those phones from Motorola. You could find out for sure that way.

v220 is jankety dude, resolution is crap compared to a v400/600. The screen quality is just like the old c350g http://www.min4.com/image/review/motorola/c350/df_c350_01_xl.jpg

I'm thinking about switching carriers. I'm on AT&T right now but it seems like my phone has been dropping more calls than usual.
I've heard good things about Verizon. Any comments?
Also, think the Cingular/AT&T merge will help?
What's a good phone? I've been really out of the whole cell phone loop.
I have a crappy T226 so anything would probably be an upgrade.

as far as i know, ATT and Cingular are not going to open up their networks to each other. not in the immediate future. except in some areas where there are dead spots from one provider, but full bars from the other provider. the newer phones should have the firmware to handle this.
i've been with Cingular since 1998, back when they were Pac Bell wireless. it's been up and down for me. but overall, i'm satisfied. they have decent calling plans. their world phones do not have SIM locks. they have rollover plans. and their phones are affordable.
Verizon is pretty good in So Cal. they have good building penetration and CDMA is supposed to handle heavy call loads better than TDMA or GSM. so less dropped calls. and i think Verizon still offers free data, to connect to your laptop or PDA. they just deduct your usage from your packaged minutes. and i believe they offer high speed wireless in some areas through the old Ricochet network.
the only things i don't like about Verizon is that their phones tend to be expensive. and they don't have any "budget" calling plans. the cheapest national calling plan is $50 and their cheapest local plan is $40. i believe both ATT and Cingular offer a $30 national plan and a $20 local plan.
Actually, Verizon has a nationwide plan for $39.99. Their website is tricky though.
I think you might be right, it might be my phone. Any recommendations on phones?

Stryfe had it, now he's using a V600. It's pretty old dude, 2 years old I think. The 6600 (http://celler.ru/phones/images/photos/9/284b.jpg) series is what you're looking for. Smaller than the 3600 w/all, if not more features. My co-worker has one, I was checking it out until I ran into the pictures OF HIM HAVING SEX0RS, video too. :( He said it does 10 mins. Speakerphone, mp3, oh and it has OPERA! (http://www.schlitt.info/applications/gallery/albums/nokia6600/aag.jpg), tri-band, bluetooth, yadda-yadda. .

OK. I get my cell. phone service paid for by work (it's also my pager). Our contract with ATTWS is up (TDMA network service) and we're shopping for alternates.
I *thought* I had my boss set on moving to a GSM/GPRS service because of the occasional int'l travel for the big wigs. But, now it's looking like he favors Verizon's CDMA service because he can get a signal at his lake home in NW Wisconsin.
I cannot tell you how bummed I am by this turn of events. I was at a mall yesterday perusing the phones at a Verizon kiosk and they all fucking have ANTENNAs. It's the fucking 21st century!
Ok. Rant aside, does it matter that Verizon's network is CDMA? I noted that they still are able to offer sms, mms, and IM (on some phones).
If this is the way this wind is going to blow, I may start looking at alternatives because I don't want to go backwards on the tech spectrum. I'd probably have to pay for it out of my own pocket and them come up with some sort of expensing arrangement with my boss.
Thoughts? Advice?

Ah, yeah, that's the other thing that'd be nice. Saving my phone book on a SIM card.
Someone made a comment about what I said about antennas on phones. I guess it's one of my pet peeves and one of the other reasons I've avoided going to a flip phone.
I carry my phone in my pocket (currently a Nokia 8265). If I carried a phone with an antenna, I'm guessing I'd break it sooner or later... And, I hate belt holsters.
Though, this may be an easy way to keep in the upgrade stream....

for a month or so I tried to remember not to keep anything (keys, lighter) in the same pocket as the T616 I have. Eventually the screen got all scratched up and now I dont even care.
My 1 year contract is up and now I can get a new phone. I am thinking a flip phone would prob be better now. I originally went with the 616 cause it was nice and small for pocket travel. Me likey the Motorola Razor but I dont want to spend a grip just to have the newest Motorola that they gave out at (insert award show here).

Oh, it's habit for me to put my phone in the same pocket as my wallet and cash. It never goes into the pocket where I keep my keys. or, it rides in a shirt pocket when I have my headset plugged into it (the jack on the Nokia 82xx is on the bottom of the phone).
The only annoying problem I have had is with dust getting under the case and appearing between the case and lcd. I take this thing apart every few months and blow the dust out of there.

Red Faces at Orange as Customer Gets Blue Photos
LONDON (Reuters) - Mobile phone firm Orange says its picture messaging service can "make someone feel really special."

But when one customer called the company helpline she received some pictures that made her feel outraged instead.
What she expected was a photo from a customer service representative to make sure her camera phone was working. What she got was a series of close-ups his genitals.
"This ex-employee sent some indecent photographs of himself. He was dismissed within a week," an Orange spokeswoman said on Wednesday.
"We've looked into the matter, collated the information and handed it over to the police."
Worldwide camera phone sales are rising fast and expected to total 150 million this year.

Yeah, I'd read the news yesterday, too. It'll be interesting to see how this goes. We (our company) currently has ATTWS (though it's the old TDMA service and I think we're switching to Verizon since our contract is up).
According to the info on that site, ATTWS customers won't have access to a lot of things until at least mid-November.
joetron2030
10-27-2004, 11:07 AM
Yeah, I'm not sure how long it will take. Though, I doubt you'll need any phone changes to access ATTWS GSM network once it happens (assuming they use the same GSM bands or you have a multi-band phone).
For ATTWS mLife customers, though, if they want some of the features that Cingular only offers to its customers, they'll have to get new Cingular provided phones.
I was reading through the FAQ this morning on that newcingular.com site.
But, yeah, who knows how long it will take to merge the two networks...

I don't think you need a new phone to get on Cingular's network.
My AT&T phone started using Cingular's network automatically a few months ago.
3 days with Cingular and the T637 and so far so good.
No drop calls, good reception everywhere. Battery life on the phone seems a little low but I think it's because I've been playing with it so much..

That's not what I said. I said you might need a new phone from Cingular if you want access to some of the features they only offer to their subscribers. it's one of the things mentioned on that newcingular.com website under the questions for current ATTWS subscribers.
Q: Why do I need to get a new wireless phone when I want to get Cingular’s current rate plans or services?
A: Cingular's rate plans and services require unique software in your wireless phone to function properly. Unfortunately, AT&T Wireless phones are not equipped to support many of the benefits of Cingular's voice and data services. Therefore, to take advantage of the latest services Cingular offers, a new handset is required.
Making the transition to a Cingular phone is easy. Plus, we offer a wide selection of innovative wireless phones. From basic voice and text messaging capable wireless phones to state-of-the art models with integrated cameras, multimedia messaging and wireless Internet features, we're confident we have a Cingular phone to meet your needs.
http://www.newcingular.com/a_questions3.html
Now, I'm not sure if they mean all of ATTWS' phones or just non-GSM phones.

10-27-2004, 12:28 PM
i think it might apply to GSM phones too. mMode and Cingular's Wireless Web are different. like when i launch my phone web browser, it will only go to the Cingular start page. i'm sure ATT users will only be able to get to the mMode start page.
i certainly hope that Cingular changes their SMS policy. ATT allows free incoming text messages. while Cingular charges for every incoming message.
joetron2030
10-27-2004, 12:45 PM
Yeah, I wonder what changes will be made to the various billing plans.
OK. What's really annoying is that you can't see a Cingular coverage map unless you enter in a zip code. And, if the zip code you enter isn't currently serviced by Cingular, then you're just out of luck.

Lockline Insurance (888 562 8662) is a separate entittie of Cingular Wireless, they do all the insurance stuff. When a customer calls to add insurance the rep at the other end places a test call to the handset in order to establish it's in working order, once that's done the actual insurance takes effect within 5 days. If the phone can place a call, you can add insurance to it. If that fails, you can always put that simcard in another handset when you place the test call. What sucks is now they issue refurbs, but for a phone like that you should get something neat like a V400. Don't forget the $50.00 dollar deductible that will appear on your bill if you process a claim, oh, and you can only process 2 claims within a 12 month period.

Hmm, iirc the way Motorola designed it you have to completely disassemble the phone to replace the antenna. Yeah, you take off the back plate and it slides out. Oh, and Cingular's new upgrade policy is 11/12 or 21/24 months completed to qualify for an upgrade, no longer having to complete the entire term.
BTW, here's a slight inside tip: when the actual ATT/Cingular merger completes ANY ATT customer, regardless of any issue, can 'migrate' to Cingular wireless without a deposit. Example: Sue signs a contract with ATT and is forced to leave a $500.00 deposit due to her existing credit history. The next day Sue decides to migrate her service to Cingular Wireless, said deposit will be reimbursed. So tell your buddies, I thought that was pretty cool to know. They (ATT/Cingular) are shooting for the 15th to complete everything, so this will only work if you sign up for ATT before that time and then migrate after the things settle down.

Yeah I second the Nokia. I'd be suprised if you had to pay for one. You can probably get money back after rebates for that phone.
My company makes some components for cell phones. According to them, Nokia has the strictest requirements for component duty life and durability. Roughly twice as hard as Ericcson to get qualified.

My mom has her heart set on only one gadget this Christmas:
a portable cell phone reception jammer she can take to the movies
Of course she's counting on me to find it for her. I've explained to her that these devices are illegal in the US, but she'd like me to find one for her anyway. And are these things even portable? The ones I've seen are fairly large and have to be plugged into the wall.
Any information would be much appreciated.

i was thinking of getting one too. there were a few occassions where people would talk loudly on the phone during a movie. it seems that throwing popcorn at them isn't too effective. :p
but anyways, from my informal research.. you can buy these over the net. most of the places that sell these are based in the UK or some european country. they're reasonably priced, i guess. and they come in small sizes. i've seen one that is about the size of a pack of cigarettes. i've seen another one that is disguised as an old Ericsson cell phone. and they're battery powered. considering that small size, i'm sure the range is good enough to kill a conversation within hearing distance, but it probably won't jam the entire theatre.
i don't have any links for purchasing. i'm still weary of buying stuff from overseas. but if you check the Howard forums, i'm sure you can find some reputable places. and be sure you get the correct frequency. the US/Canada uses the 800mhz and 1900mhz for cell phones. other countries use 900mhz and 1800mhz.
http://www.howardforums.com/
http://slate.msn.com/id/2092059/
and not to be preachy but.. please tell your mom to use this thing responsibly. no pre-emptive jamming please.

Beware of the Intellisync software for PIM management with Outlook. My wife's calendar on her Sidekick2 is currently completely fucked up and she's been working directly with Danger's tech support because T-Mobile tech support is useless.

ha. I did that same thing last Halloween. your phone is fucked, sorry to say.
"Subject: cell phones and telemarketers
_
Starting Jan 1, 2005, all cell phone numbers will be
made public to telemarketing firms. So this means as
of Jan 1, your cell phone may start ringing off the
hook with telemarketers, but unlike your home phone,
most of us pay for your incoming calls. These
telemarketers will eat up your free minutes and end up
costing you money.
According to the National Do Not Call List, you have
until Dec. 15th 2004 to get on the national "Do not
call list" for cell phones. They said that you need to
call 1-888-382-1222 from the cell phone that you wish
to have put on the "do not call list" to be put on the
list. You can also do it online at_ http://www.donotcall.gov/
Registering only takes a minute, is in effect for 5
years and will possibly save you money (definitely
frustration)!
I just registered our two cell phone numbers on-line at the above site, and
got e-mail confirmation back in seconds, with a confirmation sheet to print
out for my files.
This has been checked out at Snopes,

eek.. your chances were better before you turned it on. when you drop your phone in water, it's usually a good idea to remove the battery immediately. then wait for it to dry. then take it apart and use rubbing alchohol to help the remaining water evaporate. i've heard some people having good luck with this. but it really depends on how long it was in the water.

Right now the Moto V710 is the front runner for my phone choice. I really want a phone with BT support and that is the only phone Verizon offers that has it.

For all the CDMA network bots (Verizon and Sprint):
Motorola has announced (http://www.engadget.com/entry/1234000177036194/) at CTIA that CDMA versions of their RAZR, etc. phones are on the way.
A ways out though (1Q 2006!).
joetron2030
03-16-2005, 11:10 AM
Not sure why so late. But, hopefully, they'll work out any/all of the issues that have come up with the GSM versions.
EDIT:
Ok, based on some further reading, the delay in a US introduction may be that the CDMA RAZR shown at CTIA does not have GPS-A (among other chips that may be required to be allowed on US networks by the FCC).
So, it sounds like it will take some time to get all of the necessary other components needed and squeezed into the RAZR form-factor to make it legal for use on US CDMA networks.
At least, that's my interpretation of what I read.

I am thinking about getting a Panasonic G51U. Them shits is tiny! (http://panasonic.co.jp/pmc/products/en/g51u/imageview.html) The small size sort of makes up for not being a flip phone, plus it has speakerphone capability.
The G51M is cheaper and more readily available, but has 900 instead of North America's 850. Everyone says that it's still ATT/Cingular compatible, but how much of a difference will not having 850 make?
If I get one, I am thinking of turning it into a wristwatch.

Slackerich: No more $29.99 plans as of 06/01!!

cingular won't be carrying siemens phones any more!
i guess they struck a deal w/sony that has pushed siemens out of their product line.
interesting.
siemens was never that big in the us market though. i did like their phones though.
on a different note...anyone wanna burn me a copy of OSX tiger so i can sync my fuckin' phone?
smsZap 1.0 sends text as SMS message to mobile phones
Bayham Systems today released smsZap 1.0, an application that allows users to quickly send text (as an SMS message) to any mobile phone. Users can simply highlight text, press a key combination (Shift + Command + 'W') and send the next to a number from the Apple Address Book (or other custom number). Users can also manually enter SMS messages; smsZap provides realtime message tracking (with information on delivery status): the messages are sent via the Internet to the smsZap Service Centre, where they are then passed to any one of 471 mobile networks across 165 countries. The application is free and runs on Mac OS X Panther/Tiger. Pricing starts at $26 for 500 credits (a single SMS can be sent for 3-5 credits).

i liked the S66. i was going to get one when i was told that stores no longer carry siemens phones.
i had one of their phones a few years ago through cingular. it was that funky little blue flip-phone with the stubby antenna. i liked it.

i hear the stock of v3s is very limited now. a friend was trying to get one and NONE of the stores in the entire portland area had any in stock. they all said that they won't be getting any in either.
i'm wondering...i have insurance on my phone. if it breaks of something, what could they possibly replace it with that would be comparable to what i have? hmm....scary thought.

they'll make you send it back to the factory or offer an "equivalent" phone.

i have the 3650. try this (http://www.wildpalm.co.uk/GoBoy7650.html) out.
Sprint is one fucked up company. I started my service june 8th 2004. I came into their store yesterday, June 8th 2005 to have them fixed my samsung phone because the ringer stopped working. Their computers say i'm not covered under their 1 yr limited warranty. So, i have to fork over 10 dollars so my insurance will cover it. that's messed up.

i was thinking about just getting the motorola one from the cingular store.

so here's the problem:
i went to a store and got hooked up with a tmobile family plan. my phone contract was over with cingular, but my family plan with them (my mom's phone) wasn't done yet...so the place i went told me that to switch to tmobile, i'd have to break that cingular contract, but then they would reimburse me the money.
so i switch.
now i have an imported rad motorola e398 and still have the same number.
the problems:
the phone carrier name on the screen still says cingular! it's been 2 days (sat. and sun.) and it doesn't say tmobile. what gives?
#2: everytime i call my vm, it works fine, but then i get some random ass text message that's from "(weird pencil shape)@" and there's no message! and when i get a vm, i don't get a regular "vm" icon or whatnot...but i get a text message from "_@"...
any clues?
is it cuz i'm using an import phone? anyone run into this shit before?
sorry for the long drawn out problem...

yeah using the tmobile sim...and yeah, i figured i'd wait a couple more days for it to REALLY transfer over.
and i did talk to them about the text msgs and they were puzzled too...i guess i just have to wait a little longer to see what's up.
thanks slacks.

Well, I just paid $100 over my normal bill for going over. Apparently, my free nights and weekends didnt carry over from AT&T. I hardly even open any of my bills, so my bad I guess.
Time to shop for new plan, phone and maybe provider. Only good thing about Cingular that I can think of is corporate discount off my total bill (12% IIRC). I don't think that's enough money to keep me around.
Anyone have a website that will let me do side-by-side comparos of diff plans/carriers?
edit: found one on letstalk.com

i still think it's an odd sight to see people walking around with these things in their ear. but if you must get one, then i'd recommend getting the Motorola. but i think Jabra makes some decent BT headsets also. i think you should pick one based on comfort, sound quality, and battery life.
i need one that will fit comfortably inside my helmet.
although, talking while driving the vespa may be a little dangerous.
