ok, wonki and i were thinking about it and it's high time for a GRLA snowboard trip. Daytrip like, on a weekend who's down to go and when?

Robocon^^
12-15-2003, 10:56 AM
I'm ready to go, after 2004 rolls around.

wonki wonki
12-15-2003, 10:57 AM
Sometime in January?

wonki wonki
12-15-2003, 10:59 AM
Day-trip would be cool, but I would also be down with a weekender, get a cabin, get non-rider folks to come up too and hang out, roast chestnuts, build a snowrobot, etc. etc.

Robocon^^
12-15-2003, 11:03 AM
If it's weekends, I can go the first week of January the 3rd and 4th. I need to check on blackout dates and flight availability though...I'll get back in a bit...otherwise I have a bunch of days open in the midweek.

hmm i was thinking end of jan, just because the month looks front heavy? not sure though.

Robocon^^
12-15-2003, 12:36 PM
OK...that's actually better...now that I'm looking at my schedule more closely.

I have an open block at the tail end of January (29th - Feb 1)

i wanna go! :D

but i am a snowboarding newbie and i have no gear. you can rent this stuff right?

wonki wonki
12-15-2003, 04:19 PM
Yes you can, yes you can. I recommend renting it down here as long as there is room in the car to take it up.

charlos3000
12-15-2003, 04:19 PM
oh for sure my brotha, i might even have a spare deck for you homey.

slackerbot
12-15-2003, 04:28 PM
so who's driving? would it be better to pitch in and rent an SUV with 4WD?

i wouldn't mind driving, but.. RWD + snow(icy wet road) =

;)

me = has never seen it snow or played in the snow

but, me = complete klutz and likely to almost kill herself in some way

and, me = weird schedule that usually only allows for time off during week

i guess ill just see if i can go when you guys make all your plans, oh and wonki ^2 remember keep the 20th open. ;)

charlos3000

ok let's do this.

i am pre-emptively selecting january 23rd or january 24th. day trip. leave at buttcrack of dawn, come back by like 7. i can drive a 2 door car that is neither comfortable nor roomy for more than 2 people.

23 is a friday, and i don't have class on friday and i will not be working full time as of like the 20th or seomthing. but if you guys need a weekend day to roll on up to summit we can do the 24th too. for people that need gear, i have some spare shit like gloves, and socks, deck+bindings, and maybe even a windbreaker/parka deal. but i just wanna know who's down.

EDIT: january looks none to good to alot of you folks, whether it's project deadlines, or not getting your plane tickets, or bonding with your families, so how's february sound? 2/6-2/8. my last weekend before school begins again. your last viable shopping weekend before valentines (puhwah!). just enough time to get your shit waxed and edges sharpened? for one of these multiple day thigns advance notice is better, just because of the lodging aspect and also, i'm not sure if it's even possible to get a cabin with the fires that seemed to burn down the whole village...

so who's down?

Oh shishkabobs...my fault for waiting too long and the dates I wanted in January got booked up already :(

I aimed for the weekends the best I could and reserved tickets for Feb 7-10th and another one for Feb 25-March 1

Hope I can still meet up with some of you, sorry about my messed up dates.

charlos3000
01-07-2004, 03:26 PM
it's ok i can do a solo mission i am not skirred of the snow.

feb 6,7,9 might be a good candidate for a weekend trip. what do you say wonki2. the multiday trips are your baby, chop chop.

charlos3000
01-07-2004, 03:30 PM
ah. new years duality gets me every time b/c i never know when chinese new years is.

well i think i'll call it a scouting mission and tell you all how the mountain is doing while it waits for you to come visit it.

ok so in deference to robocon, we'll say a weekender, 2/6, 2/7, 2/8. i will edit my above message.

over. out.

I'm going over my flight info...arriving on the 7th at 8:27pm.

Anyway, I'll rent a car near the airport, drive up to where you're staying and get in a full day of boarding on the 8th.

wonki wonki
01-07-2004, 04:01 PM

Does Charles have planning-phobia? This is yours to put together. I have too much on my plate to make this happen.

oh hey...I'm new to owning equipment...Do I need to wax the bottom of the board (I'm guessing it's for protection from moisture)

charlos3000
01-07-2004, 09:57 PM

I'm going to buy my boots up there. There's no sales happening here and the selection is bad. Any suggestions on stores in LA to go to for good deals/selection?

01-31-2004, 12:57 PM
i discussed this with the charlos and im thinking that we should just make it a day trip on sunday, im definitely down for that and maybe more ppl can go this way? im excited! snow is a place that i havent fallen in yet! there arent many places like that... :p

Robocon^^
01-31-2004, 05:29 PM
Ahhh...didn't want to waste time when I get there buying boots and bought a pair just now.

It's worth the difference in price to save the hassle. Plus I don't want to waste time having to mount everything and getting it all set up.

Let's plan on heading out early on the 8th and getting a full day in. I can rent an SUV or minivan if people want to share the ride up.

i just talked to some friends from work and theyre pooling together to get me some equipment, like goggles and helmuts and knee pads and elbow pads, what i dont need those things? oh you havent seen me in "action" before then. :p

is anyone else interested? even if you dont snowboard or ski we can still hang out and frolick in the snow! i think i want to make a snow angel or tractor or cow or ROBOT!

charlos3000
02-01-2004, 07:13 PM
welp, thanks to a number of cooperating factors, i can't go.

but have fun without me! if anyone needs any gear i have it all, you can borrow via wonki or somethin.

02-02-2004, 12:19 AM
Charlos...I'll be back in LA in the tail end of Feb too...so maybe we can make another go at it.

02-02-2004, 09:48 AM

woo hoo...Big Bear day's getting here. How was all that rain you guys got? Did it translate into snowfall in the mountains?

Robocon^^
02-03-2004, 10:29 PM

Looks like they got some good snow out of that rainstorm the other day. Conditions look awesome! I think we are going to Snow Summit. Okay here's the deal:

Lifts open at 8:30 am. The trip is a leisurely 2 hours, so let's aim for a 7:00 am departure from my place in Pasadena. You guys are welcome to stay the night on Saturday (beware: sleeping on the hardwood floor, or sleeping with the cat on the couch) or just get to my place Sunday morning real early. Also, DO NOT COME UNPREPARED. Wabi_Sabi, don't fuck around with jeans and sweats; you will be die, hard. Temperatures are in the teens to high 30's. Talk to your friends who ride, borrow the necessary gear, etc. etc. Avoid cotton. Wool/synthetic as much as possible, since they don't soak up water.

It'sawn.

shampoo
02-05-2004, 12:38 AM
woot!

synthetics you say?
vinyl panties, check.

Robocon^^
02-05-2004, 12:48 AM
I can bum a ski bib off my dad, wool socks, synthetic shirts to layer under my jacket, gloves...hmmm...Is that everything I wore last time? Sunglasses and sunscreen...I guess that's about it...

How many of us are planning on going boarding?

Robocon^^

i feel like my 8 year old boots are actually about to die.

i've had these boots for forever!

also i'm planning on a multiday trip to mammoth at some point in the spring. not exactly sure when, b/c it's still like, november but keep an eye out.

Robocon^^
12-01-2004, 06:01 AM
I'm gonna hold off on the airpass for 2005, but I'm up for a springtime snowboarding excursion. Never quite made it to Mammoth last time.

I'd be down, but only to bring my dogs to play in the snow and chase donkeys around the streets of Big Bear. Oh, and to ride horsies in the snow by Santa's Village.

Pennywise does not a good soundtrack make for riding horsies.
