'We have the facts...' was released in 2000. They also released an EP at the end of 2000.

I went to one of their concerts several months ago.. and fell asleep
just couldn't get in to them
i live not to far from where they were concieved, and in every local search that i have attempted, nothing has come up besides "somthing about planes" and "...voting yes"

Yellokitty did you go to the bottom of the hill show? I tryed to get in, but it was sold out.
If you did, how was it?
Did you know The Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band of 1978 or there abouts had a song on their best of album "Best of the Bonzos" had a song called "Death Cab for Cutie": a very bad Elvis tribute song. Neil Innis , when the band broke up want to do the music for Monty Python's Flying Circus. John Lennon called them his favorite band. They were a cross between Frank Zappa and Spike Jones. I have all of their albums except for "A Doughnut for Granny's Greenhouse" tho thats mostly reprised in the best of. Their version of Monster Mash is the best!

why are they classified as Christian Emo?, I didn't think they were Christians in the traditional sense, don't they sing about lusting for girls and booze and all those other secular evils of the world?
They're the kind of band where I hate to like them, but there are a few songs that I can't do without for now in my current flavors of the period.

i have to confess, i was kind of over postal service after playing their album over and over again, constantly for like 3 weeks straight back in may. they are great, and the concept is great, yes, but death cab is where it's at. even though the PS is out of rotation these days, their lyrics stick in my head and i can't get em out:
i am thinking it's a sign
that the freckles in our eyes are mirror images
and when we kiss they're perfectly aligned
damn you ben, you are so good.

funny.
Kings of Convenience is well known for their "Free Fallin" cover. What's with everyone's fascination with Petty? Me, I like the Cab's cover of Bjork's All is Full Of Love better myself. Ben has also done a solo cover of Joga that is quite swoon worthy.
I'm pretty bummed I won't be here next week for their show at the Fillmore. It should be quite a spectacle. People are already scalping the tickets for 75 bucks and upwards. I'm sending Empty Screams in my place and the rest of you SF bots better report in too! :P

They were the musical guests last night. Seemed like the audience was mostly there for them, screaming the way they did whenever Kilborn mentioned their name. What an odd show line up though - Rev. Al Sharpton, Stephen Baldwin, then the band. I tried my best to stay up but woke up to an infomercial. The only glimpse of the band I got was them during the late show runthrough, a clip that they played back before commercial break. bah.

^ I saw it! They were awesome as usual, too bad they were on Craig Kilborn though. He sucks. They played a bass heavier version of The New Year. It was different, but still good. You can download the performance here (http://www.hardlylove.net/mp3/DCFC_theNewYear_CBS_1.19.04.mpeg). It's 64 MB... and I found it at the Barsuk messageboards.

Death Cab For Cutie Signs To Atlantic
Death Cab For Cutie has signed a long-term worldwide deal with Atlantic Records. The modern rock quartet was previously signed to Barsuk Records, which released the critically acclaimed album "Transatlanticism" in 2003. The set has sold more than 225,000 units in the U.S., according to Atlantic.
Barsuk retains rights to "Transatlanticism," the rest of the band's catalog and an upcoming live EP. Barsuk will also release future Death Cab albums on vinyl in the United States.
Death Cab wraps up a North American headlining tour this week, then will begin work on its first Atlantic set. Meanwhile, singer/guitarist Ben Gibbard's side project, the Postal Service, is in its 90th week on the Top Independent Albums chart with "Give Up" (Sub Pop).

Just picked it up. Yep its dead cab. I did listen to it while hangin with the girlfriend, but didn't really hear it cuz we were talking. But the bands sound was great.
In truth, you don't really hear them until you're in a fragile relationship with a really hot/cool person, or just had your heart ripped out by some cutie. Damn you Jessica!!! Damn you....!!
I can't believe I missed them with the Pixies! Show of the summer.
Just downloaded the album Plan from iTunes music store last night. So far, I really dig it. By default, it's their sound that immediately gets me to listen, and then a few listens later I start to appreciate the song structure, then lyrics. Usually, I could give a fuck less what people are saying in the lyrics - not that I don't think lyrics are great and all, just that I'm more into soundscapes, textures, melodies, and overall composition i.e. how a tune weaves in and out of dynamics and subtle 'smart' elements that make it sound like a painting or design to me. I think DCFC does a really cool job of all that.
we've been playing the new one in the store every so often and it's pretty meh. a little too mellow for my tastes.
all you death cab kids need to check out Youth Group though. they're pretty good, a little more propulsive than the new death cab which damn near put me to sleep yesterday.
