Love my DS lite but I'm happy keeping the old one around for instant multiplayer fun.

I've been to several parties/poker tournaments that have morphed into DS multiplayer free-for-alls.

One late night turned into a multiplayer Tetris all-nighter.

Too bad we're not allowed to play DS wi-fi stuff on planes...

Yup...major nerd here.

I meant actual poker tournaments that morphed into DS free-for-alls.

Several of us have upgraded to Lites which leaves us with tons of DS for everyone to get into the multi-player action.

With two DS machines, you'll have instant multiplayer. Then your friends that don't have DS machines can join in on the multiplayer fun.

I'm so spoiled by the DS Lite screen, though--I could never go back to the old one.

Madden NFL 07 preview. The touch screen will allow you to draw your own hot routes at the line of scrimmage, which will be a boon for gridiron generals that can correctly read defenses. You will also be able to able to use the built in DS microphone to call audibles before the snap. (http://www.1up.com/do/previewPage?cId=3151982)

I'm enjoying Hudson/Nintendo's Sudoku. I thought the Sudoku on Brain Age was good but Sudoku Gridmaster is excellent.

The game ranks you on how fast you can complete a puzzle. I've just started, but I got four stars (top rank) on a puzzle I did in 4 minutes, 20 seconds.

At 400 puzzles, this game will keep me happy for a long time. You can save at any point so it's good for quickies.

I did plan on finishing all the Sudoku puzzles on Brain Age before getting Gridmaster but I'm glad I ditched the Brain Age Sudoku.

My favorite new feature: you can double tap any number and all instances of that number get highlighted so you can easily tell where intersections occur. Also, there's a number grid that turns all the finished numbers blue so you can tell which to ignore.

On another DS note, I used the Download station at Comic Con. The stuff they were featuring weren't cool but I was surprised to see who pulled out their DS machines to download stuff--not just the expected Nintendo geeks but skater kids, annoying trendy folks and older folks.

Nintendo is doing something right with their Touch Generations approach.

In my estimation Mario Kart and Meteos are must-haves. Kirby: Canvas Curse is fun while it lasts, as is New Super Mario Bros. I haven't played Animal Crossing or Brain Age / Big Brain Academy, but people seem to be all about those.

Liver_on_a_Stick
09-17-2006, 06:47 AM
I agree with new Super Mario Bros. That game is very nostalgic if you've ever played Super Mario World / Mario 3.

Top 5 for me would be

5 - New Super Mario Bros - Like I said above, this game has just the right amount of challenge to keep you playing. being a Mario vet I completed the game in 2 days. But that's not to say I have gotten all the secrets and unlockables. There's a massive challenge right there. Also, there's a ton of mini games included. Really fun over WiFi. Nintendo could have ripped those out and made a Mario Party game.

4 - Meteos - I think it's the funniest puzzle game for the DS. Sorry Tetris. The game is kinda like Tetris attack, if you know that game. The puzzle blocks come from the bottom of the screen as opposed to floating down. You use the stylus to arrange the shapes on the blocks to destroy them. I went and bought screen protectors because this game is so frantic, I was getting some scratches on the touch screen.

3 - Metroid Prime Hunters - I included this becuase I'm a big FPS fan. I never owned a GC so I haven't played the original Prime games. I can say this game is really fun. I rated it high because I see a lot of promise in the Mutli player.

2 - Brain Age - I play this game every day. It's great for subway commutes/ lunch breaks as it's quick to play. If you like Sudoku, it has that included!

1 - Mario Kart DS - WiFi connectivity makes this game tops for me. Playing against people on the internet is a blast. I've even played against strangers waiting for a bus and on the subway! Out of all my DS games this is the one I keep coming back to time and time again. If you've played the earlier kart games, there's some retro series with tracks from previous games.

Oh, I have an Onyx. If there's one thing I would recommend. It's getting a case. (If you care) Shiny plastic = fingerprints galore and scratches.

Nintendo has gone through hardware shortages with the DS. They've gone through the same hell with the DS Lite. They've gone through software shortages as well with this little system that could. Now, they're facing plastic shortages.

Instead of selling their DS games in their plastic covers, they're going back to the old cardboard covers they used to use with the Game Boy Advance. The new cases will be the same size as the plastic DS cases. They'll also have a small explanation saying that only the case is different and that everything else is the same. Those who desperately want a plastic one can call customer service and get it in late December. (http://ds.qj.net/Nintendo-facing-plastic-shortages-/pg/49/aid/67612)

you do not beat trauma center quickly.

it isnt out of the question to be stuck on one level for a week.

Depending on how quickly you figure out the system all the virii have and the method for solving the puzzles quickly, you can be looking at 15 - 20 hours.

I really want to play the Japanese version of EBA because I know the songs are different. The problem with EBA, the american version, is that half the songs are so bad. And there are not enough songs.

charlie bucket

that was happening to me alot. i was stuck on that level for a while. before you finish out the last one before the 5 come up use the needle to raise the patients vitals as high as you can. then finish up. when the five pop up just stick them and cut them out but dont remove them. once they are all cut you can start removing and all that. it worked for me even though one still burst (the vitals were high enough).

on 2/5 diddy kong racing drops. i plan to get it. you can race against 7 others on wifi where mario kart was 4. plus you can make tracks and share them with friends via wifi. although i dont think you can race over made tracks over wifi just send them to people for them to race

Yeah, that is the one feature missing from TGS, wifi play (either ad hoc or over the 'net). maybe if they put out another version (which I doubt).

Way back when the Nintendo DS was revealed, Nintendo veep Reggie File-Aimes mentioned that cart sizes could go up to a gigabit in size. Or, more specifically, 128 megabytes. Several high-profile games have hit that point in just two years of the system's life, and more ambitious developers will demand more space for their products. With full-motion video sluts like Square Enix fully on-board the Nintendo DS train, Nintendo will likely put two and four gigabit cartridge media (256 and 512 megabyte) on the development order sheet in 2007 to encourage PlayStation-like game presentations with enormous rendered cutscenes, introductions, and endings, as well as voice-overs and full-on licensed soundtracks. These carts would, of course, be made at a premium, with the prices passed down to the consumer in higher game costs.

Will Shortz, the crossword puzzle editor for the NY Times, is following in the footsteps of Dr. Kawashima, teaming up with Majesco to release The New York Times Crosswords. The game is to be a collection of over 1,000 different word puzzles. The game should appeal to those same gamers who enjoyed Brain Age, allowing users to manually write in answers using the stylus on the touch-screen or substitute that functionality for that of an on-screen keyboard.

The game is to ship this Spring and will feature wireless head-to-head crossword battling action.

ya, it's just when the games get new things added to it do you start to see problems.

Like, at some point your patcher won't work for a certain game, and if the company doesn't update frequently, then all the games that come out afterward, will not work either. Seriously. BTW, the R4DS IS compatible with a Mac. Just use an SD>USB adapter and it will load like any other drive.

Also, I recommend using a Rom Trimmer to cut the roms down so u can fit more on your card. Since I use a Mac, I had to use a rom trimmer made in Java, but so far so good - everything runs fine.

I can't wait for Zelda. I'm now playing New Super Mario

new super mario is fucking great i think everyone that has a DS should own it. the only thing bad about it is its selling so well there prob wont be a sequal for a long time. i think they have sold close to 5 million in japan alone and at least 2 or 3 million in the US. after you beat it take time to get the big coins. really adds to it

I just started...its awesome. Whats the deal with the big coins?

charlie bucket
06-18-2007, 04:57 PM
oh its not a major thing. but there are some big coins hidden throught the levels. 3 in each level i think. you can use them to get stuff. but sometimes the trek to find the coins is as much fun as the level. a few were hard to find. it adds some replay time to the game.

that one mini game where you find the persons face i dig that too.

I was wonderng what those big coins were. The second level on the first world - the 3rd coin - is hard to find.

Been playing this a lot lately. Probably my favorite line of baseball games. There is a whole RPG side to it that I don't play, but the physics for the games are pretty tight. There are a couple things I miss from the GBA versions that weren't included in the controls, but other than that, it's a lot of fun.

Tried out the new Transformers game last night. Seems like it was rushed. Many times the screen flickers when driving around. BTW, if you are using an R4, there is a new update available. Fixes problems with the new Zelda and SimCity.

Anyone else playing SimCity DS? It is totally owning my life right now. My first city sucked bad, but my new one is 10 years strong right now. Now if I can just get Santa to come and visit again.

Hmmm... TRU is currently having a "buy 2 get the 3rd free" deal this week.

But, I haven't been playing my DS much lately. The last game I bought was Puzzle Quest and I got burned out on it.

I'm waiting for that one guitar sim game to come out, I think.

I am tempted by SimCity DS, too.

I wish I have access to better games to buy. All I have is Mario Kart, New Mario Bros., and Final Fantasy 3. My roomate has Pokemon but I don't feel like playing that.

My one complaint to SimCity DS is it slows down a lot after awhile. There is just so much going on after awhile on screen, the game gets bogged down. Also, all the people who come and visit the mayor gets old after a bit. Still fun though.

I'm assuming you are talking about the Opera DS browser?

I had wanted it when I first heard about it last year, but then realized I didn't want to pay $25 for a browser.
