If anyone wants to give a Picross-like game a try before buying the upcoming title for DS, you can check out this flash version at http://www.thetimmys.com/flash/picross/.
I've had this site up all day and been plugging away at the puzzles as time permits. I'm definitely hooked. Can't wait to get my copy of Picross!

supply and demand would then dictate whether or not a price drop will happen. didn't the PSP do a price drop?

PSP is doing good and making money but they dropped the price to hopefully be more competitive with the DS.
the DS is the highest selling handheld/console in just about any country in the world. in the US they sell more then a half a mil a month and a little more then that in japan every month. my point is its selling like crazy there is no need to drop the price that would just make nintendo less money. im sure it will hit 99 dollars some time but i dont expect that anytime soon.

Finally picked up my DS and started playing FF3 again. One big thing I hate about this game is that it seems there a too many places where you suddenly NEED a certain class that has, up until this point, been totally useless to you. So what do you do? Grind 5 or 10 levels.

To commemorate the 20th anniversary of the popular Contra franchise of video games, Konami Digital Entertainment plans to incorporate a wealth of in-game bonus content into its latest entry in the run and gun action franchise, Contra 4 for the Nintendo DS™. The content includes:
• 20th Anniversary Virtual Museum – this museum provides a virtual history of the Contra franchise since the early 80’s, including box art, screen shots and information on every version of Contra from the US, Japan and Europe. The museum also features an unlockable gallery of bonus art.
• Unlockable Games – The NES versions of the classic Contra and Super C are now unlockable.
• 5 unlockable characters, including the Probotector from the European version of the Contra games
• 2 unlockable digital comic books from longtime Contra artist, Atsushi Tsujimoto
• An interview with noted Contra Producer Nobuya Nakazato
Set after the events of Contra III: Alien Wars, Contra 4 follows hardened mercs Bill Rizer and Lance Bean into battle against a new extraterrestrial threat, complete with larger-than-life-action, massive enemies, fast paced run ‘n’ gun combat and mind blowing set pieces. The unique dual screen presentation of the Nintendo DS™ allows for frantic action and mammoth boss encounters, and a grappling hook allows players to access hard to reach areas, or dodge that pesky attack from a foe.
Contra 4 features a variety of game modes, including 40 Challenge Modes that will test the limits of even the best Contra veterans, as well as full cooperative play through the main story mode, where two players can take up the fight for mankind and destroy the evil forces of the Black Viper.

This is a joint creation between AQ Interactive, KORG and Procyon Studios (Mitsuda's studio). Looks pretty damn neat.
KORG DS-10
The KORG DS-10 is a music-creation software for the Nintendo DS that combines the superior interface of the Nintendo DS and the design concept of the famous MS-10 synthesizer.
The sound sources in the KORG DS-10 come from KORG - one of the world's top musical instrument producers - and no effort was spared in creating these ultra-high-quality sounds. The Nintendo DS's dual-screen touch panel is used to the fullest to provide a feel and operability that is unsurpassed, and combined with the sensory input mode at the touch-control screen, this unit can be appreciated by the complete novice as well as the seasoned professional.
In addition to the two analog synth simulators and drum module, a 6-track/16-step sequencer enables precise control and provides a wide range of musical possibilities. Several units can be connected and played together through a wireless link, and this and other features make the Nintendo DS and KORG DS-10 almost limitless in their application - they can take you places that no single synthesizer can.
The KORG DS-10 will introduce “stylus music” to the world at the International Musikmesse Frankfurt (Germany).
Description
- World's first music tool software created for the Nintendo DS
- Two patchable dual-oscillator analog synth simulators:

Wow, what prevents this from working on non-JDM DSes? I don't remember, are DS titles region locked in any sense?
charlie bucket
03-13-2008, 08:45 AM
it will work on a US or Europe DS the DS dont have any region protection. they prob just dont have the business deals set up to sell here yet. i think its all in english too. a place like http://www.play-asia.com/ will have it
joetron2030
03-13-2008, 09:45 AM
I showed it to my friend (a professional musician) and he mentioned that most products introduced at the trade show where this product will be introduced usually end up in the US on short order.
But, if not, I'll definitely be keeping an eye on play-asia.

its been out for like 3 years but just started playing kirby canvas curse recently and its really fun
I just started my animal crossing town over, I made the mistake of letting my younger borther play it a while back and he used his action replay to max out my bank account. It got boring when I didn't need to earn money any more so after finishing my town's collection I said enough and restarted it.
I got Jump Ultimate from play-asia, I love the game even if I can't read any bit of it. But you know A B X Y L R and arrow keys are universal.

For all of you fans of the gridiron, the news that the Tecmo Bowl franchise was getting a reboot and coming to the DS likely brought back fond memories of long passes for touchdowns and leaping over the pile at the goal line. Personally, we're dying to see a screen shot already, but that's beside the point. Prepare yourself to want this game more, though, because Tecmo let loose some details on the upcoming game.
Known features include:
Customizable teams: players can select color, emblem, player names, city and abilities
Super abilities: some players will have special abilities that allow them to pull off big plays
Wi-Fi and local multiplayer: oh yeah, you can play a friend in the same room or somebody across the country
Stylus control: no other details on this one, yet
Over 32 different teams
Cut scenes: huh?
Customizable playbook: no idea on how much you can customize it, but it's a nice feature

Yeah, i sure as heck don't have the time to play it now because of GTA4, but I couldn't pass up the deal. I figured I wanted to get this game eventually so why not just get it now.
It isn't the first time I've had games sitting on my shelves still in the cellophane waiting to be unwrapped and played.

yeah thats smart. my backlog of games has exploded within the last say 8 months. for a while i just had ds and would buy 1 game at a time. then my parents were cleaning and found my old dreamcast and i started getting tons of games for that. then i got a wii early summer which also means i have a game cube. so i have a handful of gamecube/wii games. and basically since march ive made very little time for gaming. its crazy. i pretty much only focus one game at a time. december was mario galaxy, then it was medal of honor heroes 2 for the wii, then it was no more heroes, tales of symphonia (which i havent finished or played for like 2 months), now its kirby canvas curse which ive beat but there is a percentage that says how much you have finished everything in the game. so now i have to get it to 100% for no good reason. so im still playing that even tho i got tons more to play.
one reason i have so many games now is because of the game trading site goozex.com. the games i got for christmas (wii) i played for a bit then traded there and have got tons of dreamcast games and a handful of gamecube games and. so far since jan ive sent off 13 games in goozex and got 31 back. alot of that is dreamcast games but 3 are wii games.
to keep track of my backlog i joined http://www.backloggery.com/ its easy to add your games. i still have to add some and im going to switch my dreamcast games to null since im not even thinking about them right now. also ive been trying to remember old games ive beat to put on there but its been so long for some. my personal backloggery page is here (http://www.backloggery.com/main.php?user=goldenticket)

i'm looking for a fun, light ds game... nothing super-addictive like animal crossing or harvest moon. no sports or shooters either.
i like rpgs, action/adventure, platformers... maybe trivia? are those brain age games any fun or are they lame?
i think the last ds game i bought was cooking mama... or final fantasy 3? both were fun.
anyone have any suggestions?

FF Tactics A2
Super Dodgeball Brawlers
Bomberman Land Touch
Assasins Creed
Not in love with:
Space Invaders Extreme

Geometry Wars

The stylus controls for TWEWY are a bit on the not so great side. I have that game too and I haven't really played it that much, either. Probably doesn't help that I got "Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer" not too long after I got TWEWY.

A lot of reading at the beginning.
Digging the first hours of FFIV. Harder than most RPGs to start. Got darkness and slow cast on my party in one of the very first battles. Crazy. Was probably 2 rounds from getting killed by the first boss.

I just beat the first of four elemental sub-bosses. The game is hard because it's pretty much linear and there's not really much chance to level up inappropriately ahead of enemies.
My DS has crashed 2 times while playing this game. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with piracy safeguards.
I've liked all the party members so far. Everybody has brought something to the table.

Well, that would make the DSi more earth-friendly. No more buying multiple cartridges for X number of games, just load them onto an SD card and go. It's a good solution.
Edit: Fixt typo
But what about the stack of GBA games I still own and play? That and I already have a stack of SD cards here that I'm always sorting through to see which is the one with the stuff I need on it as it is. I'd rather not add to that pile.
Really, if I didn't already own a DS Lite I'd think this was sweet, but only cause it will mean a price drop in it.

i think they may make old games downloadble to your SD card as compliations through their new browser software and storefront. wish those old games were some how wired up so we could all move old saves to some cloud :)
i'm really considering getting that DSi, for using that colors app to paint-more screen space and a camera make lots of sense :D
i have some painting examples on my blog, and i get really excited about these kinds of things for doodlers.
also i'm imaging that with that korg app and one more that makes a game out of it all you could get some crazy image/music making game together. "paint by numbers hero" anyone ? it could use the camera to snap and make brand new challenges- like a dungeon generator :P

And I'm not following a walkthrough, although I did sneak a peek to defeat the undead boss guy on the bridge (I was on the right track but thought the actual solution to be too easy, then got my ass beat repeatedly).

Who's preordering the DSi? I'm tempted, but the lack of GBA backwards-compatibility has got me sitting on my hands until the price drops a little.

Will this mean that DS games may be phased out with this new version of the system?

My understanding is that the DSi will play DS titles just fine. It doesn't have a GBA port like the current DS Lite and OG DS do.

Konami announced Love Plus a while ago for the DS for a 2009 summer release and it appears they’re taking this game quite seriously!
The first half of the game will be about getting along with the 3 characters in the game and the second half will be after one of the girls confesses her love to you, and the love simulation that uses the RTC (real time clock) in the DS will start and there will be no actual ending for the game
It’ll be using the RTC so there would be some special events happening if you start the game at night!
Over 5000 scripts, 150 event CGs, 25000 voices, the amount of content is completely over what is normal for a DS game
You can have contact with the girl using the touch pad too. Touching her on the forehead, cheeks, shoulders, arms, or petting on the head, or going even further…!?
Players are free to set how they want the girl to address them by. Everything from “anata” or “goshujinsama” to personal names like “akihiro” or “keisuke” are possible and will be fully voiced.
Studying for tests in the game will be done in a quiz format and if you get everything right you can get a reward from the girl
When the girl knows what a player likes and dislikes, she will try to change her personality and feelings. Her style, actions, and way she speaks will slowly change too
You can communicate with the girl using mail or through the phone, and if she’s happy at the time she might reply instantly or if she’s really busy at the time she might not reply at all, simulating how she has her own life and emotions to handle too
When the girl becomes the player’s girlfriend, she’ll start addressing the player with voice. This isn’t done using the EVS system from Tokimemo 2 but instead they recorded voices for a lot of names and nicknames, starting from all the most popular names that have been registered in Japan down to the names that have been popular recently, players will definitely be able to find their own name in it
It also supports the in-built DS microphone and will have voice recognition, allowing the player to actually talk to the girl. As an example you can ask her what she likes and she would reply.
If there are upcoming exams there are events where the player can study with the girl and if good results are achieved there would be a reward. The reward is really good apparently and they put effort into it. The study sessions for the test is also pretty tough in exchange, two of their staff who originally wanted to become teachers have put in some serious questions
The events using the touch pad aren’t simple stuff like flipping her skirt or something, but something that would make the player start sweating from embarrassment. There will also be scenes which will be thrilling in more ways than one.
They have picked seiyuu who are able to act naturally. Tange Sakura, Hayami Saori, and Minaguchi Yuuko.
There are countless communication patterns to the girls. There are already dozens of patterns just for greetings. It’s pretty close to impossible to be able to see every single event in the game. It’s probably not enough even if the player plays the game for a year. And if we’re talking about seeing every event for all 3 girls that’s probably impossible. For example the girl would say something when you start the game, and this would change every day.
The volume and quality in this game would definitely not disgrace the name of Konami which made a big movement when they made Tokimeki Memorial. They want to present a new way of playing these games again, with the same spirit of opening new horizons like in tokimemo.
Famitsu review
8/10
The game is completely different before and after the girl becomes your girlfriend. The feeling of flirting around with girls who have all sorts of animations while feeling embarrassed is further enhanced by the amount of care they put into the game and it all comes together as an incredible experience. If you don’t mind the trouble and can keep playing the game, the number of things you can do with the girl is immense and you can go on forever. And considering how it is possible for the player to personalize the girl, the number of available characters is quite reasonable.
9/10
The “friend” part can basically be described as a love simulation. There’s no fatigue meter in the game so it plays quite smoothly and comfortably. But, the real main part of the game is still the “lover” part. The link with real world time and the immense number of events leave me speechless. The slightly reluctant kiss had me completely absorbed in the game next thing I knew. The difference between the character modeling and the illustrations can be made up for by the character animations and voice.
7/10
The real game starts after becoming lovers. It kinda makes me happy how a casual comment can make the girl try to change herself to fit your own tastes. There are two types of modes to the game, so you can date the girl at your own pace. Special events don’t happen everyday, the key to enjoying the game is to treat it like she’s a real girlfriend and enjoy a normal everyday life with her.
8/10
It’s feels quite new how the main game actually only starts after you start dating the girl you like. The girls’ gestures are cute and it’s a big plus with the large variety in what they can say and in the large amount of events available in the game. It’s really good how the girl will slowly change her character and her appearance to fit your tastes. I wish there was more variation in the types of mail conversations you can have with her and the kind of chats you can have with her, but that might be asking for too much.
also i gave up on fsn / tsukihime on the ds reading that much stuff on a tiny screen was going to make me even more crosseyed.
