Vernors or Canada Dry. Ginger ale is yum.
I can't tell the difference between Coke and Pepsi. But Coke takes the rust off nails, which is amusing...
Usually I just stick with water or juice.

Minute Maid.

My ex-roomie(this foreign exchange student from Japan) used to say: "I see that you like drinking a little girl. That's very interesting."

My American mind would think: "I'm not perverted or a pedophile."

Then he would say: "Minute maid...get it???"

i know, i was making fun of this canadian kic that lives on my street. The first day he came over my house, "want to come over my house (he said it like huse or whatever) and have pop. I thought it was the funniest shit. Also i didn't wanna say "soda" for some reason, and i wasn't gonna say "your favorite carbonized beverage."

When I was little I used to drink the little cream thingies they have in restaurants straight from the plastic mini-carton. But I think once I drank too many and it cured my love of half-and-half forevermore. *shakes head at the memory*

Oh, and being a midwesterner from birth I was raised to say pop. I know it's uncultured and retarded sounding, but hey. At least it's onomatopoetic! Now if I remember I'll say "sodapop" as a compromise.

A bunch of friends and some people in my family work for Pepsi, so if you go to their house "Coke" is a four-letter word. I can drink either though. I have found that warm Coke from a can produces the best belches.
I don't drink ginger ale unless I have to. It reminds me of when I'm sick and my mother pushes ginger ale and saltine crackers on me...

You guys remember JOLT!? That junk would rock you into next week. Was a great substitute when you couldn't get ahold of your dealer. Mellow yellow was one of my favorites too and it's making a comeback. But the king of all kings is...... Diet coke.

08-07-2001, 04:18 PM
Ahh... soda. Er, pop. Whatever.

I like Canada Dry ginger ale too. But on the subject of Pepsi versus Coke, I often choose Coke. Pepsi is waaay sweet and induces many burps. I got into drinking Diet Coke because I started to find regular coke too sweet. Go fig. A cola of any sort is essential when eating pizza.

For the caffeine addict in you (listen up, Jolt drinkers!), this website for a plethora of caffeinated drinks you can order! They even carry Jolt in many flavors, but there are more to be seen and tried! (open up a can of Whoop Ass!)

Damn, so many, how could I ever pick just one?

Cola category, call me crazy, but i like safeway select a lot. Pepsi over coke, tho.

Vernors ginger ale is bomb, but hard to find. I coughed so hard the first time I tried it. Strong!

Actually, many of the safeway sodas are good, pineapple, fruit punch, all that jibba jabba.

Then, Japanese sodas, don't EVEN get me started; mitsuya cider, melon soda, it goes ON.

08-07-2001, 09:53 PM
i like coke with a couple slices of lemon. lemon is good with your 7-up or sprite too. It gives your regular fizzy carbonated water a nice punch. or hot lemon and honey for your poor sore throat! lemon in that ice tea.

yes, i prefer coke over pepsi.

this post brings back memories... when i was kid, i liked Fresca. remember that shit? it was like citrus-y ginger ale. i had some a few years ago, and it tasted like complete ass. i couldn't believe that my mom let me drink that shit when i was a kid.

i also remember that this kid in my elementary school, alex tu, drank a whole six pack of Jolt before school one day and puked all over the place. ah, serves him right- he was the school bully.

as for the pepsi v. coke. my preference changes, but i do agree that cokes from the fountain are great. my friend once told me that pepsi struck a deal with the USSR where they would only carry pepsi in the entire country. so, a lot of russians of today drink coke in spite of the communist regime. anyone know if there is truth behind this?

In HK, there are some strange variations in how soft drinks are consumed:

1. Boiled Coca Cola - Yes! (No shitting you) boiled lightly and add a wedge of lemon. Drank hot.

2. Schwepp's cream soda with milk - drank ice cold.

by the way, anyone here got the taste shock when you get over the border to Canada and drink a can of Coke or Pepsi? It tastes much sweeter (way too sweet for my taste) in Canada. Do you know why?

Is it because we use corn syrup here in the USA and they use cane sugar? Can some of you Canadian check out the label?

My mom used to give me warm Coke when i was a baby/little kid and had an upset stomach. Later, as a poor country boy in Missouri, we drank the hell out of Shasta (I want a pop - pop -pop- i want a.. Shasta!) because it was cheap. Rc Cola was a big one too. Pepsi was too soft and sweet and girly.

Then came high school and i started exclusively drinking Jolt and popping Vivarin. That was ugly.

Now i'm hooked on Coke from the glass bottle (they still make 'em here) with Korean BBQ or.. this new Korean stuff called Yellow Cola (I didn't make this up) that looks like it sounds. A clear plastic bottle looks like a urine sample but tastes kinda lemony. So - yum yummy.

Workers: Coke Reselling Expired Soda
Tue May 21, 6:14 AM ET

DALLAS (AP) - Several employees of Coca-Cola Co. have accused the soft drink maker of repackaging nearly out-of-date soda cans and bottles and then reselling them at stores in minority neighborhoods.

Coca-Cola officials deny the allegations, which they said were not brought to their attention internally.

One worker who made deliveries to stores in predominantly white and black Dallas neighborhoods said the practice was widespread and well-known when he started working as a Coca-Cola merchandiser in 1993.

Llewellyn Hamilton, 49, said so-called "near-dated" items were shipped from white neighborhood stores and sold at a discount in predominantly black and Hispanic stores.

"They'd lower the price and ship them to the black and Hispanic area stores," Hamilton told The Associated Press on Sunday. "It was common knowledge that we'd recycle it to that neighborhood."

For example, he said about-to-expire 2-liter containers of Coke that sold for $1.19 were marked down to about 69 cents.

"I thought it was strange," he said. "They (customers) knew it was something they had to drink right away."

Rick Gillis, division vice president and general manager for Coca-Cola Bottling Co. of North Texas, located in Dallas, said that after a newspaper reporter brought the allegations to their attention about two weeks ago, company officials conducted an internal investigation and spoke with everyone involved in the supply chain.

"We believe without a doubt that these allegations are totally without merit," Gillis said.

But Hamilton said company officials knew of the repackaging and did nothing to stop it. "You'd get those 'don't ask no questions,'" he said.

Kenneth Newsome, a dairy manager at a Sack-N-Save in Oak Cliff, said Coke merchandisers took near-dated soda off the store shelves and repackaged it in the store's back room.

The old soda also was put into the store's vending machines, said Newsome, who has worked at the store for 16 years and first noticed the repackaging about five years ago.

Hamilton now works a new route, delivering drinks to five grocery stores in Garland and Mesquite, both predominantly white suburbs of Dallas. There, the policy on about-to-expire soft drinks is much different, he said.

"If it gets within a month of going out of date, we ship it out," he said. The aging soda is then returned to the bottler, he said.

Bob Lydia, president of the Dallas branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (news - web sites), said the organization is still investigating the allegations.

"To this date we have not come up with a final (determination) on this," Lydia said. "We need some hard fast evidence before we make that claim."

Finally a topic where I can say I'm an expert. I stopped drinking sodas in February but before that I sware I consumed it like mad. When I was a kid I learned to drink soda for breakfast, lunch and dinner and it was the first thing I went for when I got out of bed. Yikes right? Just think of all the empty calories. So... several times in my life I've gone cold turkey but then gotten back into it again but this time it's going well and I've been drinking nothing but water for over 2 months. Yea me.

but if I wasn't restricting myself I would be drinking the following.

In a cold bottle : Coke
In a cold can : Pepsi or RC
From a 2 liter bottle : Dr Pepper with shaved/crushed ice
From a fountain: Mug or Barqs Root Beer

I've also been drinking only caffiene free soda for 3 years now. RC doesn't make one though, which makes me sad.

They were giving out free one litter bottles of vanilla Coke at a grocery store here for PR purposes I suppose. I didn't get to try it but my sister did and said it really wasn't all that great. I'm pretty sure it's widely available now.

My favorite pop, other than Diet Pepsi, is this ginger soda from Bermuda. It's pretty strong but the flavor and the aroma is delicious. Don't drink too much of it though. It definitely has the potential to make one sick if consumed in large amounts.

I have an uncle that drank Mountain Dew like it was going out of style. By the time he was 24, he had an ulcer (and no, it wasn't from stress). Carbolic acid isn't a strong acid, but it's acid nonetheless. Acid that you're adding to the acid that youalready have in your stomach. Cola's useful for eating rust. Mechanic's that can't get rusted nuts & bolts loose let them sit in cola overnight to loosen the oxidation. And it certainly could be an urban myth, but supposedly a tooth will dissolve into nothing if left in a glass of cola overnight.

Eric: I saw Vanilla Coke here (Madison, WI) in a convenience store the other day. I wasn't thirsty so I didn't pick any up, but I'll post a review next time I see some (it was a 16 or 20 oz. plastic bottle, if that makes any difference).

ok..this is an old trick...some of you might already know this...you know how you put ice cubes in coke or any form of soda....and after a while it's water down. Instead of using "water" for the ice cubes...replaced it wif soda. So then the flavor will last longer.....and dab a bit or lemon...and you set.

The title of this thread is curious. The word "Pop" is used to refer to Soda. I thought this term was one used typically in the midwest, where as we Cali/West Coast headz used the term Soda. I cant ever remember anyone other than peeps from MLPS or there-abouts saying "Pop". Is the thread starter from the midwest perhaps? Just had a Vanilla Coke. It's OK and so is Dr Pepper. I like cold IBC Root beer but you can't get it over here. My favourite soft drink is lemon or pink grapefruit Lucozade Sport which is non-fizzy. I also like Peach and Kiwi & Strawberry Snapple.

I've had various 'phases' where I always drank only one kind of drink. When I was really little I only drank apple juice, then I moved onto Ribena, then Orange Fanta when I moved to Bangkok. Then Coca Cola, then Sprite. Then Coke/Sprite/A&W root beer. Then Dr. Pepper.
Now if I ever drink soda I tend to have diet coke/diet vanilla coke/cherry coke/Mr Pibb. I also like lychee juice, cafe latte soy milk, chocolate soy milk, milo.. But I drink water most of the time.

Favorite sodas, in no particular order:

Hey-Song Sasparilla: classic Taiwanese soda, like root beer but 100 times better

Apple Cidra: another classic from Taiwan

Harvey Wienhard Cream Soda: may have misspelled the name, but it's the still the best cream soda ever

Senorial Sangria: awsome Mexican sangria-flavored soda, very intense flavor

I LOVE Hey-Song Sasparilla. i dig that sort of metallic taste that makes it different from normal sas. and it's not to sweet. Apple Cidra is awesome too. it's a shame they're so expensive though, as i can only find them for like 60-70c/can or so at 99. :(

Somebody was telling me they read that during the height of the Cola Wars, when every Pepsi commercial was about a blind taste test, the people at Pepsi knew that if people just took a little sip, they tended to like Pepsi more.

BUT!!! If they took more than just a sip, the more they drank the more people preferred Coke Cola. So their commercials weren't technically full of shit, but in a way they were.

I prefer Coke. I love Coke. It's one of the best tasting things around. But I try not to drink it too much. Hollywood is fueled by Starbucks and Diet Coke. Without them this town would grind to a halt.

Mexican Coke fans say cane sugar gives it a sweeter flavor than the corn syrup in the U.S. version.
love this shit

from http://www.beverageworld.com/beverageworld/headlines/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1000632881

High-fructose corn syrup is actually sweeter but it leaves a film in the mouth. That film automatically diminishes your palate, blocking the sweetness. [Sugar cane] sucrose is cleaner and crisper. So if you are used to Coke made with corn syrup, the difference is striking.

i love it. i think it's mexican, though. coca cola bought them a few years ago, so it's usually pretty easy to find. bodegas have it, and so do some bigger supermarkets that have an "ethnic" section.

in the seventh grade i brought a can of it on a field trip and the teacher freaked because the label design looks like it's for beer or something.
