i mentioned that because someone had Burt's Bees lipbalm.

Burt's Bees are environmentally friendly cosmetic products. hippy stuff that's everywhere. his face is on everything but he is a freak. the kind of person that you'd find in the arizona desert hiding from the government. he has quiet an enterprise though.

Good thread. There was a cool exhibit at the SF Exploratorium a while back, which was basically about looking through your pockets and bags, seeing what you carry around with you, and comparing it to other people.

Much like everyone else, cell phone/MD player/biz cards/yadda yadda yadda.

Interesting things: guitar picks (because you never know), bootleg MD of Jeff Tweedy's solo show in SF, WordTank J/E dictionary, "Narutaru" manga, "Fear of falling" by Barbara Ehrenreich, Japanese moistened face towelettes for men.

i was channel surfing and i saw a documentary about what women (and a couple men) carried in their bags...

it was interesting... some people carried soooo much junk.... one women was pulling out some crazy junk... like a notebook sooo packed with papers, receipts and crap that it was at like 60 degree angle.

then there was this suuuper organized asian american chick.... she had her planner all color coordinated and junk.

i thought that was funny (and made me think about that whole model minority thing)

08-09-2001, 12:30 PM
My purse or my bag? Well, I'll shoot for my laptop bag since it carries more interesting stuff.

I always wonder what's in others' bags. On the train I like to check out other people's bags and other people's shoes.

I think it'd be fun to make up some "coolest shoes" prizes and give them out to whoever had the coolest shoes in a train car. Except my Japanese is terrible, and I don't think many Japanese I commute with would get the joke.

haha, no its really not as bad as all that, most of it is small crap that doesn't make my bag too heavy. honest!

serge gainsbourg? hah! haven't listened to him in a while. i played that raunchy song once by accident at work (didn't realize it was on there) and all of the frenchies had a good laugh. i forgot they would obviously know what he was saying. what is the name of it again?

on an side note, ive said this somewhere else but i got a prada bag as a gift recently, i didnt ask for it, but im not gonna turn it away, its still sitting in its box in the corner of my room, not sure how exactly ill be rockin that joint, but eh why not..

in my bag now:

No I haven't seen em, but I am sure they will sell like wildfire. Leave it to northface, a once reputible outdoor gear shop, to make things that appeal to masses. Sorry, I just hate seeing people wear outdoor gear for fashion. Kinda like seeing a Lexus SUV; you know it will never be used for what it is supposed to be used for.

hehe i know what u mean, but do you think the quality of their products has diminished because of their popularity?

btw a Lexus RX300 recently won a rally competition against cars like evos and wrxs. so yeah 99% of them dont get used for what theyre made but that can be said about a ton of things.

neku,
hmm well seeing as to how i can barely afford a watch for myself PLUS i have people asking ME for watches =P heheh ill just settle for the bag

Oh I know that Lexi are very capable that's why it irks me to know that so many are sold with no intention to be used to full potentional. You into rallying? It and sports car/Le Mans/ALM are the only racing I can stomach.

As far as Northface is concerned, I don't think that their popularity has cause quality to decline, but it has caused the prices to get jacked and it has also caused them to make some poor design decisions in favor of fashion. I like to stick to the hardcore, barebones kind of gear. Northface has always been kind of froo froo for my tastes. Plus I don't want kids coming up to me and saying "Yo thats a tight northface jacket yo!" You into backpacking, climbing, or paddling?

theres a thread somewhere about me vs mother nature..
i like canoeing yes, or at least our version of it heheh

im starting to get into rallying anything other than that stupid big oval crap..my bro might be getting a wrx next summer so that should be fun..i plan to follow with an EVO if it ever comes out and if my supra plans are foiled..

This is super cheesy but I have been following rallying for a while and I got this notice about a new Rally Based reality TV show. Now while I hate reality TV, I couldn't pass up on the opportunity to go to rally school and than compete for a million bucks. I know I'm a dork for applying but maybe ya'll might see me on your tv's rallying the shit out of an EVO or a WRX or something. That would be rad.

Ryan, if you are thinking about an EVO you won't be following. It's the WRX that will be behind.

archonemis
05-24-2002, 07:38 AM
I wish I had something to counter that, but it's true. While I love the styling for the WRX I think if push came to shove an EVO would be the way I'd go. Now all I have to do is become wealthier.

kid_robotron
05-24-2002, 07:45 AM
Me too. The scientific basis for my statement regarding WRX vs EVO is I saw them race the new models (UK models that is. I know we get a better deal with the imports sometimes) over a course of mixed surfaces, offroad and tarmac. The EVO did much better, and the person driving (former rally driver) did some cool 4 wheel drifts in it.

By the way, I can get you a copy of Bruno's De Umbris Idearum for $45. Agrippa is usually in print.

Poodle-like hairdo? Oh oh....you mean King Louis XIV cockerspaniel Perseus. He does bitch quite a bit. Do what you will with him. Strip him bare naked, prepare a spiked wooden pole, and have him slowly descned down it. He will moan for heaven thus.

Wow! You wear a barette? That's so cool. Do you have your name on it too, like "Rusty"? You are getting ready for Paris, no doubt. When you come back from there, you should bring us all barettes with our names so that we could rock them at our giant robot nyc gatherings. How cool would that be?!

neku74
08-23-2002, 09:05 AM
wow, all that stuff and you picked out the barrette??? hahahahhaha!!!!!!!

that's odd, i always secretly wanted to put a barrette in my bf's hair while he's sleeping and take pictures, but his head is shaved. wait, isn't yours too? you can't wear barrettes! gah! stop leading me on like that!

incidentally the best barrettes are made in france, i forgot the name of the company. i like the tortoiseshell ones myself.

oops! i just realized my mistake . :D work's got me all wired and shit. no wonder i found it odd that she would be carrying a beret (not barette) in her bag. who wears berets? much less in the summertime??!! i was thinking she must be in some covert, military special forces...or just cornball. hehehe.

but i still think we should all rock the funky berets with our names on them during one of our giant robot nyc meets. we can be just like the griswalds!

wow i am really dumb. i can't believe i didn't realize that you meant "beret" and not barrette, and i launch into a discourse on quality barrettes and bald guys. oh i feel little....

the griswalds!!!! i just saw that on tv the other day, i love that movie, its definitely the best of the nl vacations...the funny thing is, after watching it when i was a kid, i really wanted to travel to europe...and every time i go there i still find myself thinking of something funny from the movie.

I usually carry everything important in my pockets (money, cards, a couple of cigarettes in a small case, a lighter, lip gloss, and a really tiny cell phone)... but I do carry a bagpack around with me to work. It has:

swimsuit
sprinting goggles (the swedish kind.. hee hee)
swimcap
gym shorts
gym shirt
white socks
tennis shoes
boxing wraps
bag gloves (tied to the outside, since there's already too much stuff in my bag)
towel
cheap shampoo
soap
bottle of gatorade
random tiny notebook (of stuff i write down)
small CD case
lotion
lip gloss
wallet
a cellular phone
People of the Lie (by M. Scott Peck-- I'm reading it for the umpteenth time).

I prefer just having what I need in my pockets, though. Bags are a pain. I gave up carrying purses for quite sometime... They're a pain in the butt, especially at concerts, when you get "accidentally" pushed into the mosh pit. =P
