ahh the cocoa bean. much like my boy g.castanza, it is my dark master! i am a sucka fo chocolate. it can't be no milk or light, or white or any other variant. must always be the darkstuff.
Hershey's Special Darktm
nestle's semisweet chocochips.
------------
them's pure money right there. also, my dad used to make a desert called death by chocolate that's insane (he used to be a chef at a place called Harris Ranch). i've had other iterations of it, but the way my dad had it was the absolute pinnacle of chocolate death. i used to take a couple bites and then i'd be all hyped like mikemyers' hyperkid.
i make a mean chocolate cupcake too. and i'm not talkin straight out the box bettycrocker stuff (okay, but strictly for amateurs). this here's the real deal, with creamcheese and mo' chocolate in themiddle. you can't fade goin from skratch yo.

Toblerone with those lil' honey bits in there
Lindt's truffle balls
Melty Kiss (morinaga? meiji? I forget..)
the hardcore dark bars with 99% cocoa liqueur
Those orange balls you smack first to break them
falcor

The chocolate in Seattle is pretty good. They have the coffee buzz thing down and chocolate was only the next door territory to venture into. Specialty chocolate shops are fun to check out. And that chocolate factory near the outlets is cool.

Mmmmm. I'll make a stop there when I get the chance. It will probably melt by the time I bring them back to Hawaii. ;-] Maybe they might be digested before I get on the plane.

HA! Gross! Almond Roche looks like nut-encrusted poop. And the "toffee" breaks your teeth. That and Perugina Baci have got to be the most gifted and re-gifted candies in the Chinese New Year universe! Okay, next to See's, Russell Stover's and Whitman's Sampler.

I don't know about Hersheys tasting bitter to european people, in mainland Europe they like very bitter chocolate. I had some Hersheys and to my English tastebuds, it seemed like they had made it with water in place of milk.
Toblerone is very fine chocolate, especially the bars that are the size of a squash racket.

I loved it. That's why I was so very thrilled to find a vegan version of it at a local Middle Eastern grocery store. I've practiced much self-restraint by not eating the whole jar in one sitting. Much restraint. The vegan version tastes EXACTLY like the real thing.

If you ask me, you guys are ALL pussies. The only real chocolate is dark. Milk - I don't care how fancy it is - is just watered down chocolate. And don't even get me started on that white shit. Forget about hershey's - Even their dark tastes like plastic. Of course, I've been to Hershey Park like 10 times... you get free fuckin' chocolate, man!
Toblerone. Humongus chocolaticus.
Anybody ever try some of that General Foods International Coffee's Swiss White Chocolate? Best powdered coffee drink experience I've ever had.

the best freaking chocolate concoction i've ever had was at a local restaurant called Chart House in Portland, OR.
it's this chocolatey goodness called a "lava cake" that's part divine cake and ice cream with a center filled with godiva liquer. i like chocolate a lot but can't eat more than a couple pieces without going into sensory overload, but i will eat this whole thing by myself it's so damn good. i swear this stuff will make you cry.

Fog City News

they stock around 150 premium bars from around the world and have tasting notes from hundreds. last time I was there I got some good single origin bars and a nice one spiced with cardamom.
I like to treat myself to a good 87% Cacao Cote D'or Brut every once in awhile. it acts like a good digestive after a meal, not for everyone though. my gf took a bite without knowing what it was and nearly choked.

New Chocolate store in town! In addition to Fog City, you can get some really nice bars, single origin and confections, at a cafe on Fillmore called Bittersweet. It's a couple doors down from the Clay theater a few blocks up from Japan town.
I got some nice stuff, an E. Guittard (http://www.eguittard.com/) 65% bar from Madagascar that has some nice blueberry undertones. Also a Dolfin (http://www.dolfin.be/cadreinterneuk.htm) bar with red peppercorns.
they also have several kinds of hot chocolate and some delicious looking pastries.

^ i had the chocolate-chili combo for the very first time at the cafe of lindt's chocolate museum. it was in the form of a cuppa thick hot chocolate with tobasco sauce, tequila, whipped cream, and sprinkles of paprika. shit was gooood! the spicyness didn't conflict with the sweet chocolate flavor at all, just sort of prolonged the feeling of warmth of the chocolate in the mouth. the aztecs were onto something there...
ja.net also let me nibble on her vosge bacon-chocolate bar a while back. she wasn't feeling the meat/candy combo, but i really enjoyed it. the saltiness of the bacon sort of grounds and tempers the sweetness of the milk chocolate.

Picked up 2 bars of that stuff. Yesterday I polished off a bar of Ghirardelli "Midnight Reverie" 86%. I'm definitely not a chocolate expert/snob and this looks like it can become kind of an expensive "hobby" to start, but it's a delicious one. Only buying stuff I can get at stores around my house. I might even try some "artisan" brands one day (I'm sure they exist, like with everything else these days).

my neighborhood, koreatown, is home to the largest population of oaxacans outside of oaxaca.
http://www.guelaguetzarestaurante.com/index.php
they sell their mole online along with crickets and oaxacan cheese. but the real treat is going to the restaurant. i like the 8th st. one the best. its smaller, cuter, and better place to take dates. the other one down the street is too big and loud cuz they have a mariachi band crank it up while you eat. its kind of annoying.
everything here is good. including their drinks which are a mix between jamba juice with yogurtland fixins. hard to explain, but if you order a horchata, you need a spoon with that. and even the complimentary chips have a lil dollop of mole on top.
