i can't believe someone actually bought those.

this is quite a kick to the groins for the tattoo industry. i was reading a magazine at the tattoo shop my friend works at and an ad-page for those *ahem "sleeves" came up and he just started screaming. "fuck fuck fuck...i don't even want to talk about that shit."

I don't think it's gonna hurt the tattoo industry too much.

You ain't gonna get the tattoo needle buzz, the numbing pain for hours on end or the blood by buying those "sleeves".

It'd be like music promoters worrying about going out of business because of concert bootlegging. Watching a concert on TV just isn't the same as being there, y'know?

I don't think the tatooist was lamenting the loss of work. Those sleeves are lame and depressing to look at (from his POV).
It's like someone took your artform, stole the look and cheapened it in the most banal way. And for $60 a shirt, they must be clearing a decent profit off it.

Well regardless, I don't think they're gonna sell.

The only people who're gonna care about 'em are kids under 18 and even most of them are smart enough to know that if they save their money and wait a few years, they can get the real deal.

Yeah, all the poser hipsters and trendies trucker hat wearers who all get sleeves done now have a non-permenant option.

I imagine if they came in a pirate/ninja/pabst blue ribbon theme they'd be selling more than those "JESUS IS MY HOMEBOY" t-shirts and John Deer/Von Dutch mesh hats combined.

If I ever became set for life, I'd like to get a pair of Star Wars sleeves done on my arms.

Luke on one forearm, Darth on the other.

With lightsabers drawn.

03-23-2004, 05:55 PM
i;m thinking water and carp scale patterns.

can't decide if it's a big deal

to actually finish out my forearm.

my right arm tat stops at the elbow

and it's noticeable but it's not open to plain view.

i used to work with a guy who had the rebel alliance tattoo on one shoulder, and the empire logo on the other shoulder.
dumb.
on the other hand, if you had luke and vader on a forearm each, you could flex repeatedly and have them lightsaber duel with each other. kind of a spin off of the dancing hula girl tattoo
