I was at my friend's house, and saw his wife's Antropologie catalog. I flipped through it and was thouroughly impressed. Everything in it looked good. Nice, flattering clothes for girls. I wish they made men's clothes. But if I was a girl, I'd totally wear Anthropologie stuff all the time. Girls, please, wear this stuff. Thank you.

the clothes look about 5 times better now than when I was in 3 years ago. They're still as expensive as fuck though. There you have it.

Nice choices, ma'am. And that dude's got nice arms.

ocd

Heh, it's cool Shaw. Waving my fist is just my new thing. Whenever anything goes wrong, I'm fist wavin'. And good choices. I wish there were the full sized pictures in there, because the small interweb ones don't do them justice.

shaw is right on about the price, but they've always got a few sale racks. i love to look around in there -- lots of smells, things to look at and touch, and they have really nice underwear!

ocd, what outfits would you sport if you were a girl? i wanna see your selction.

What's funny is that until a couple days before I started this thread, I never even knew this store existed. I've never seen a store, any of their clothes, or even the name until then. I must be really out of touch with popular society.

I'm the trend-setting dude in unpopular society. Come, imitate me, buy my posters and wear what I wore (last month).

I worked in the stock room at the U-Village Anthropologie in Seattle for a while. The clothes are good, but really expensive, like you guys said.

But the home items - let me tell you from first hand experience - are absolute shit. It's just a bunch of cheap crap made to look "vintage," which basically means you're paying a hundred dollars for a light switchplate that was left out in the rain to get rusty. Their Christmas holiday stuff for the home is extra cheap garbage.

ocd
08-05-2004, 07:53 AM
If I'm fortunate, I'll find some of your leftovers at Value Village.

08-05-2004, 08:13 AM
I only have a couple glasses from there. I didn't expect them to be great, and they didn't cost a whole lot so I'm happy with them.

La Dolce Vita
08-05-2004, 08:40 AM
It's a great store. I consider it a lower end designer store. Pricey but still cheaper than a trip to Saks. Too bad the owner shells out tons of money to republicans.

08-05-2004, 08:44 AM
Hey, when Saks has a sale, that's not bad. Or go to Off 5th.

I will admit that there are some pretty nice things in that store... but the first time I ever walked into one and saw the "home" department, it looked like Easter threw up in there -- lots of weird pastel stuff with no foreseeable purpose.
I used to work in a Hallmark store in the south and they sold a lot of the same style of things - pastel things that sit on a shelf and are supposed to look old.
As to the question of whether or not it is in fact mass production for the fake individual, whether or not my outfit is "individualistic" has a lot more to do with how I put it together than with where I bought it.

they actually sell what they call one-of-a-kind "found objects" that are suppposedly gathered from all over the world and then sold - probably for ridiculously jacked-up prices.

I remember them selling antique bottles and cans from Britain, and Flemish and Chinese furniture. can someone verify the authenticity for me?

haha, reminds me of the time when I had an argument with this bitch of a horse statue collector about her Tang horse. She said, "This is ancient horse from the Tang dynasty..." and I said, "You mean a replica of a horse from the Tang dynasty..." She got really defensive and vehemently argued that it was an antique so I picked it up and the Bombay sticker was still on the bottom-- $30.
"If this were geniune Tang you wouldn't own it, let alone have access to it".

08-12-2004, 08:12 AM
^haha, I have that horse, seeing as how I used to work there

08-12-2004, 08:20 AM
I think anyone that claims to have an antique when it's not is just plain silly. I have a combination of antiques and replicas and I'd never pass a replica off as the real thing. That's just poor taste.

oh well that explains why I can't afford their earrings. I get crafty ideas from anthropologie. I took an old navy tote and sewed buttons on it and everyone asks me if it's from anthropologie. that store is so dangerous. you tell yourself you're just going to look and the next thing you know... I have a layered green-blue skirt from there that I've never worn... I think it might be the same one referred to above. you can get arty stuff anywhere though, even places like macy's. I think anthropologie is sort of canned., tries too hard. and that indian model looks like a briton's bitch. I don't know what I really mean by that but there it is.
