What's the best way to store bread?
I realized that buying two loaves of sliced whole wheat bread at Costco is stupid, because I just can't eat that shit fast enough. The other day I noticed that a friend keeps his Costco bread inside the fridge. Now, mind you, the fact that the bread is from Costco is irrelevant.
Anyway, so if I think it's going to take me around 7 to 10 days to eat this bread, should I just keep it on my counter as I usually do, or should I store it inside the fridge? Also, what about Pita bread? Does that need to be stored differently than sliced bread?

Freezer, then toast the sucker cause it isn't going to be as good as it would be fresh. But it's better than mold.

^^ Seriously? Freeze it even if I think I'll eat the whole damn thing within just over a week? I mean I'll do it and shit, but freezing it is going to infuse the bread with all sorts of funky artifact flavors.

The REAL answer to this is one of those infomercial "vacuum fresh" kits.
You put the bread in the special bag, use the special pumpy thing to pump out the air (not too much or the bread'll get all crushed) and there you have it.

Double-bag it when you freeze it to insure against the dreaded burn. Then when you want a couple of slices, wrap them up loosely in some paper towel and thaw them out in the microwave for about 20-25 seconds. You can eat them like that, warm and straight out of the microwave or proceed to step two and toast them.

Never store bread in the fridge. That is death. If you want to store long term, freeze it.

just buy what you'll be eating right away, rather than resort to freezing, refrigeration, or cryogenic preservation. if you run out of bread, just buy more.
most bread can be ok for about a week. but if your loaf starts getting moldy before that, then you probably live in a humid area. if that's the case, you may want to buy a container for bread.

Buy only as much as you can eat while you can keep it out on the kitchen counter. Why do you have to buy two loaves?
I was subjected to eating frozen bread through my chilhood, and it fucking sucked. Being on my own, I have the liberty of keeping it out and breaking off a slice at my convenience without any preparation. It is one of my simple pleasures. Bread is my favorite food.

when i buy sandwich/loaf bread, i buy potato bread. the stuff lasts forever in the fridge and once it reaches room temp it's stilll pretty close to the texture of a fresh loaf. i've had potato bread last about 3 weeks in the fridge and not develop mold, and it still tastes good, too. my theory as to why it doesn't develop mold is because of the high vitamin c content in potatoes (potatos?).
i like whole wheat bread, too, but it seems to go stale more quickly. i don't really eat white bread.

Yeah, no more Costco two loaves at a time dealie, but I still wasn't sure what the best way to store bread was.
Okay, thanks, bread lovers. I'm not freezing it, no way. I'll just make sure to not buy too much bread and keep it on the counter where it sits there all cute and shit waiting to be eaten by me.

To be honest if you buy supermarket sliced bread it doesn't matter if you fridge it or freeze it - it's not going to taste of much. Take half out into another bag and freeze that, and keep the unfrozen half in a knotted plastic bag or anything else airtight. It's fine. Best of all buy small loaves or rolls FRESH every couple of days.
