Has anyone quit drinking? If so under what circumstances? How much do you drink per day, week etc. Do you feel like alcohol is controlling your life?

i quit drinking for like two months after i got my DWI and wrecked my car. then i started drinking again, on and off, various degrees. right now, once or twice a week. get prett drunk every once in a while.
I'm really careful about drinking too much, my pop had a problem with that.

alcohol never controlled my life. i just got to a point where i could drink a 40 oz of malt liquor like it was water. AND drink a 6 pack without getting a buzz.

i used to drink a lot in high school.. liquor during the day, and 40's at night. this was everyday. my tolerence to alcohol got so high, it was really a waste money to drink. it probably wasn't too good for my kidneys either. so i just stopped drinking by the time i got to college. i'm just a social drinker these days.

ahhh, good question.

in the last month, or make that 3 weeks ive been on a self imposed hiatus from the booze.

how much have i been drinking? well i was really boozing hard like 3 years ago so im not on that level anymore but i was drinking (not getting shit faced) everyday for awhile now. at least 2-3 bears a day. but when id go out id get pretty hammered.

i decided to take a break cause i was looking like shit, for real. i would wake up and my eyes would be all red and i would be all dryed out. plus i felt run down.

in the last three weeks i had 6 drinks and 4 of those were at the GR christmas party. and i can say i feel a lot better, ive lost at least 5 pounds cause for one im not eating super late a night from the booze munchies.

so erik, i think booze was being too big a thing in my life and i needed to chill. i still come home and feel like a drink but then im like i dont need it. also i been more productive since. who knows how long it will last but im happy that i know i can chill when i want. honestly i didnt think i could get through the first week.

as an aside, since i stopped ive been less social cause i didnt want to go to bars. i think that'll be the hardest part cause i got to many homies that are boozers.

Right on...
What was the transition like for both of you? What kept your mind off wanting to drink? The questions may seem obvious but I trust your answers as you two being constructive and positive folks on these here boards. (did i just say that?)

If I'm busy or something important is happening in my life, I refrain from drinking, drugs etc. Lately I've been bored with my life. I drink and smoke cigs so much that I get sick almost monthly. I've been smoking more pot to remedy this but that has to be tempered to some degree.

the first couple of days were pretty rough but thats cause i was just so used to drinking when i got home.

what helped me was that i started playing basketball at night. so i my mind i was like, yeha i dont wanna drink cause it wanna shoot hoops. also ive been busy with work so my mind has been off of it.

i think you need to find another outlet for sure. you just can sit at your house and be like, man im not gonna drink cause that shit is hard. try to be more active. skate?

I used to drink 3-4 drinks a night for 3 or more times a week for 2 years.

Then I started drinking 3-5 drinks almost every night for 2 years

Then I started drinking 6-8 drinks every night for almost 2 years

Then I moved to Philadelphia and realized I was addicted to alcohol (I am genetically predisposed) and I gradually quit sometime last May or June.

I haven't had a drink in 7 or 8 months and I don't plan to ever drink again.

i haven't been drinking all that much since i've been out here. social gatherings totally make a difference - hard not to when you are w/ ppl who are bent on getting wasted. it's been nice detoxing and i'm actually scared of heading back to ny where it's crunkfest almost every night. there are times when i feel like i wanna drink but i'm able to control that craving, especially since it's not like i can just run down to the store for a beer or something. i've also quit smoking - it's been almost a month and it feels pretty good.

I feel so pathetic sometimes 'cause of my reliance on alcohol for so many things in life - de-stressing, hanging out, fighting bad moods.

There's nothing cool or original about it.

I find it very odd when people seem to aspire to be alcoholics. I have a friend like this, and he thinks that getting drunk all the time is the coolest thing in the world and will help him improve his writing, which, upon inspection, is terrrible.

Alcohol is good but can be terrible.
I liked the Homer Simpson quote earlier.

it's not the drinking that'll make the writing better, it's the subsequent depression, drama, and other bullshit that will make it worse, before you realize your writing sucks shit, and you get a little smarter, then write better.

Good link Sanjay. There's another place in Mexico where they get you so high, you supposedly go sober.
My homegirl has been doing this ceremony with this shamen where they consume some sort of concoction, get sick/high etc, and that makes you sober as well.

I dont know either...

We were thinking of having an event at her place in the next few weeks before she splits. IF(note the caps) it works out, I'm gonna bring the decks out. Her place is like Bonanza with lawn ornaments. DOPE!

i was never an alcoholic, i just liked to have fun. laughing and smiling rules!
