but it was a very good speech. but imo, bush couldve said ANYTHING and still get praised.(its that type of situation) the thing i really liked about it was when he said that bin laden and the terrorists were a "disgrace to allah, and the muslim religion" and how NOT ALL muslims were like them.
good speech.

his speech was okay......i think he said everything he was supposed to say...and im glad he didnt say anything that made me wince(like using yet another hunting term on how he was going to find or get rid of these terrorist types)...but i think he didnt make muslim americans feel ultimately secure in that they wont get beat up by bigots anymore or that they will do everything in their power to protect these ones....i know he kind of mentioned it but i dont think he made it clear enough.....
side point.....
he's a very mediocre speaker......he's kinda like....bushbot when he's giving a speech....head turn left speak speak speak head turn right speak speak speak body tilt side speak speak speak generic thumb hand gesture left hand speak speak speak raise eye brows speak speak speak all the while face frozen in a constant "i have something up my ass and im not sure if i like it or not" look on his face

Of course lots of you kids are too punk for your own good, and will find fault with his speech. I just saw it for the first time this morning, and I also do have to give the pres big ups and big props. The speech was thorough, thoughtful, and perfectly delivered. Even if he had his staff write it, he delivered with sincerity. Even if he wasn't sincere or whatever, the speech was what everyone needed right now. It makes me proud to be American and human once again.
Damn, saying that I support the government...does that not make me punk anymore? Damn.

Well people you have to realize like every other politician on the planet, bush has a team of speech writers. He basically said alot of things to cover his ass, have the majority of the country's respect, and appease the muslim population of america.
Johnney5
09-21-2001, 09:36 AM
Damned if you do.
Damned if you don't.
Even if he "had" to give the speech to "cover his ass" what would people say if he didn't give the speech? They'd say he wasn't doing his job. Stop complaining and trying to find fault in everything.
Oh and I'm sure practically everyone knows he has a staff to either write the whole thing, or help him write it, either way, the message was delivered. You kids are too punk for your own good.

So Afghanistan, who happen to be 'harboring' bin Laden, are for Osama simply because they're afraid that he'll bomb the shit out of them? Okay.

No, I get it. Afghanistan is for the Terrorists. They don't want to get bombed by bin Laden so they will do everything they can to not turn him over.
Also remember why bin Laden did what he did. I don't agree with what he did, but I understand why. Also remember that Afghanistan has the same feelings.
Look, maybe Afghanistan is for the terrorists simply because there's some big circle of fuck going on, but I don't care. So long as Bush doesn't throw us into WWIII I'm a happy boy. I don't trust him.

bushbot reference: i don't agree. yeah, he probably got into office cause retarded people can't punch a funkin' hole and barely beats out Dan "Potatoe" Quayle in Celebrity Jeopardy (moo!)... but he's surrounded himself with the right people. And regardless of who wrote what when it came to his speech, he delivered it in a way i, not too long ago, thought was beyond his capacity.
He stopped a hockey game for christ's sake... with fans from NY and Philly, no less! yeah, it was after the second period and beer may have been a factor, but that's beside the point. ;)

I think you are misunderstanding this. Just because a terrorist resides in a country, doesn't mean the US will hold the country responsible. When Bush says "harboring terrorists", he means protecting them or giving them sanctuary.
The difference is important. We will make no distinction between the terrorists and the countries that harbor them. In other words, if there is a terrorist in your country either extradite him or let us come and get him. If you refuse, you are on the side of the terrorist.

he's in political exile. they aren't necessarily condoning his actions. but turning him over is going to turn his organization against the taliban. which isn't a good thing for them, because they're neighbors. plus, afghanistan is currently ruled by an organization, not really a government. there's a civil war going on there right now, so obviously they already have opposition, we just shouldn't consider afghanistan as one country right now. which they're saying they're being careful of doing, but i hope that's true. and i hope the american people undderstand that.

If there's a 100 percent chance of 'rataliation' why are we going in? GW is supposed to protect his people, but he's only putting us in harms way by going in for a strike. Someone said that he's only doing this because people like the idea or retribution for the WTC, but the WTC destruction was because we've been selling weapons to Isreal who in-turn uses them to kill it's neighbors.
I think a foreign policy brush up would be more appropriate than bombing a country that doesn't necesarily support one of it's inhabitants. I'm not the one making decisions, but I may pay the price should shit hit any fans.

Anyone catch Joseph Lowery's benediction closing?
"When I recall the image of that preacher at the Lincoln Memorial on Tuesday, I'm sure he will be smiling, and both of us may have eyes moistened with tears of joy. I'm equally certain that we will continue to pray for justice to roll down as waters, and for that day when there will be peace in the valley, and for that day when every man and every woman will sit under his or her own vine and fig tree and none will be afraid, and for that day when black will not be asked to get back, brown can stick around, yellow will be mellow, the red man can get ahead, man, and white will embrace what is right! Amen!"

damn that was a good speech.
Supposedly the Chief Justice stated the oath incorrectly and then both of them got lost.

I have a feeling that his second inaugural address will be the real shit..

I heard that story too from Leonard Nimoy when he appeared sometime during last year on NPR's "Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me".

It's doubly-orgasmic because Obama is officially in and Bush is officially out.
There was a headline today that read "Bush and family fly off the Texas." All I could think was Bush should take a flying f**k!

I also saw Maya Soetoro-Ng and Conrad Ng on TV and in photos from various media outlets during the inauguration.

that would be a very petty gesture, if your suspicion is true, uncalled for from a supreme court chief justice.

It turns out that Roberts flubbed the oath first, which Obama had memorized. O then waited for Roberts to get it right...
