I haven't posted here in a very very long time... However, I am now living in Tokyo and found something GR-worthy to post here. There is a graphic t-shirt shop in Ikebukuro called "graniph" (website http://www.graniph.com) which has really cool shirts -- including a "GR" t-shirt. http://www.graniph.com/t-shirts/t-shirts.php?J=1&C=13&ITEM_NO=157

You should take a look.

G.G. Lang would be a very sad man if he could see what was being done with Akzidenz-Grotesk.

I don't think there is an English translation. I'm not sure what you should do about that (I can't help you, unfortunately -- my Japanese is very basic).
G.G. Lang would have to join the club, I suspect; does anyone think that Che Guevara would much like having his face plastered all over bourgeous adolescents' torsos? (Or that "the Last Samurai" would appreciate having a movie about him with Tom Cruise in it?)
And lastly, I know this is just inviting trouble, but... What is "ryanate"?

Okay, from what I can tell on the order form, you have to create a log-in identity first:

E-mail Address
Password
First Name
Furigana (for the first name)
Street Number (omit hyphens)
Prefecture (this is a pull-down list -- I think you may have to inquire specifically to order from America)
Address, Cont.
Telephone Number (omit hyphens)
Birthdate
Mailing List (left = yes, right = no)
Payment Method (something about cash on delivery, I think -- can't quite translate this; cash, debit card, credit card [choose one])
Comments

I'll try to ask about ordering from America.

I'm headed for Tokyo next month. Maybe I'll drop by one of their shops. 2100 Yen per shirt isn't too bad. I thought they'd be priced higher.

they have a special when you buy two shirts, it's something like 4000 yen. the shop downtown is nice but way too small for me.

Unfortunately, the people at the shop haven't yet e-mailed me back... It's a three-day weekend here in Japan, so I'll give them until next week to respond.

Graniph is now available at Jeff Staple's Reed Space in NYC. For a limited time, of course.

The ones I see in Tokyo aren't that great. The latest designs just aren't as fun as the ones from, say, a year ago. Not like they make them for gigantic crackers.
