Hey All!
Lee Perry and King Tubby already grace my stereo. Do you know of any other dub reggae superstars? Thanks!

oh yeah...lee perry is godlike.
the slackers claim a lot of influence from him.
don't know many others, but i do like
that dennis brown song from chungking express too.

i'm a big fan of the group known as sub oslo. they're from the ft.worth/denton/austin tx and have recently been gaining a lot of attention here in tx and japan (they recently played a huge festival in japan and just amazed everyone there to the point where their album was outselling brittany spears for that week in japan. just something i read here in austin). but sub oslo is one of the few dub bands that compose and perform all of their instruments live.

check out their site: http://www.suboslo.com/

the music on the album is amazing, but their live show is mind-numbing, bowel-shaking, gorgeous dub.

Check out Scientist, Twilight Circus, Mad Professor, Jah Shaka, Alpha and Omega (their stuff can get kind of house though). If you like the darker sounding stuff like me check out Dr. Israel. He's like an underground legend. If you want a good Dub CD check out the "Crooklyn Dub Consortium" Comps.

and dub.com

thanks all! I'm going to follow up on all yer suggestions!

Wutangy: I plan on moving to Austin late next year or so. I've been doing research on the city, but I can't really find much on the true flavor of the city if that makes any sense. Like, what are the various underground scenes like musical, activist, literary, artsy, whatever? I know Independent film has a cozy home there. This sounds so vague, I'm sorry. I guess I really just wanna know about the hip side of Austin.
thanx

I like dub in small doses. I go nuts after listening to it for more than 30 minutes. Maybe I should start doing drugs.

yeah, drugs are a must for dub.

you really get tired of it?

i can't imagine. it's like oxygen for me.

too each his/her own though.

copped the lee perry arkology about....7 years ago now, damn. it took a little getting used to all the different "versions" and rudimentary mashups that lee perry did, but can't deny the fact that lee perry, not p.diddy, invented the remix.

dub's alright. i'll take one of the trojan ska comps over dub tho.

I've got piles of dub. With or without elicit substances, I love it.

I'm kind of an introspective headcase, so I already spend a lot of time stuck in my own little world. I think spacey dub music is pleasant at first, but after a while, it takes me even deeper inside my head, to the point where it's no longer comfortable.

I like the melodicas, though.

Twilight. Not so much Augustus Pablo. I need to remedy that particular situation, too. :D

Augustus yes

The world needs more music created on a plastic horn with piano keys on it!

I've also been digging some early dub from Sir Coxsone's sound system

I must also recommend Dangerous Dub - King Tubby/Jah Screw/Roots Radics for some of the best bass booming dub around

I need more dub in my life. Have most of what's already mentioned in this thread. Any good compilations out there?
