leather....thats your best bet unless youre animal friendly......i kinda like the look of those....its hard to explain they almost look like motorcycle jackets except they fall lower more hippish .....in like black leather....zip up....very minimalist
im also a fan of the old fashioned style mechanics jackets.....to me for men...as far as not suit type material "coat" jackets i like zippers over buttons.....
another thing that makes looking for a nice coat that fits is my stature..meaning short..alot of clothes that i like seem to be made for tall skinny people..im kinda skinny so i guess one out of two aint bad..

yeah if youre on the shorter side.....its better to wear things a little on the shorter side......because a long coat would just swallow you up....i dont know how you feel about like the j. crew catalog but they ususally have some pretty nice guy coats....they tend to be pretty basic not overly trendy or stylized...but still really nice looking

leather.
vintage.
rockwhateverlooksgoodhomeyandiaintplayinfoo.
did someone mention ubermensch? hehehe. its incredibly difficult finding a vintage anything for me because people were smaller back in the day and they didn't build em swoll. and the japanese clothes is funny cuz my sister got me a 2XL and it's still a rather fitting shirt. sometimes swoll is more trouble than its worth. ;-p
i'm gonna go build up my neck now.
thats why i enjoyed shopping in HK and the PI, cuz the shit actually fit me! if all goes as planned ill be tryin on the threads over in japan this december..lol being able to buy clothes that fit is one of the reasons im excited to go
yeah ill choose winter over summer for alot of the reasons already said..ill choose walking the same distance in the winter you feel 10 times less gross than walking it during an august heat wave. jcrew is ok, but for some reason every year the clothes seem to get more and more formal than not
damn i havent even bought anything at banana much less walked into a store for the longest time...hmm however the fem. sales associates seem to be beckoning me =P right now they got the Bebe girls BEAT

Cant go wrong with a decent parka, mines hanging in the wardrobe waiting until the tempersture drops a little bit more.
Plus its really padded so it makes me look less skinny than i am.

Cant go wrong with an outdoor (climbing, skiing, hiking) jacket. they are made to be warmer than anything you will have to deal with and you wont have to buy another jacket in your life. go with arc'teryx or patagonia or lowe. them shits never die. i had one for seven years with no signs of wear before i left it on a plane, now i have one that i plan on having for a good 10-15 years. its well worth the money you will have to dish out. but really, a good outdoor jacket is just as expensive as a good leather, only the leather wont last as long and will go out of style.

a nice plain leather jacket will never go out of style..... i think those outdoor jackets serve a purpose...but if youre not like hiking or mountain climbing snowboarding or facing severe weather....they can be a bit much......and they tend to come in like turqoise and bright purple....

Nice plaid lumberjack parka with a nice cahdigan and your Elmah Fudd hat. Then go pahk ya cah in the hahvahd yahd.
I think leather smells like, like, dead skin.
i thought it was kinda funny when i found out prada was making stuff for skiing/snowboarding..regardless the jacks look NOICE...have no idea how much they cost tho..i also saw an ad where they had prada snowboards! i wouldnt mind rockin one of those..for snowboarding gear..i think burtons line of gear is more consistent throughout the years, not too fancy, but not too bland either..and it works
my fav leather jacket is this old 3 button leather blazer i got for like 40 bucks from the gap a few years ago..nothing fancy, fits just right i think partially cuz its been worn down heh

Sol, you're such a bitch, but a loveable one...
heh interesting way of putting things sol..
yes you are not mistaken..i live in the very near vicinity of NYC and perhaps by august i'll be working there
i really cant get into a discussion about justifying the amount of money people spend on certain things..i, for one, am a sale whore, but at the same time, i can understand how certain products (like clothes) can cost more than others especially in terms of quality and (although rarely) i will shell out for them too..

First of all Sol, I was merely stating my opinion on the matter. Second of all, my jacket is not pink or orange but dark green. Also, I am not a dumb hick from a bumble fuck nowhere, I grew up 25 minutes from Philly and have spent many a day and night in NYC so suck my ass. I'd also like to add that if an ugly jacket is the way to repel snobby assed stuck up bitches like yourself, than I better get a brighter jacket. Your relpy is the very reason I detest fashion sheep.
Anytime I find a jacket that I like it costs a grip. I got a d-tek jacket for 40 bucks(woohoo!). I got a black banana republic jacket for x-mas cuz I cant afford the special shit. Actually I'm modeling both jackets in Aarons knurdle.com site. I was gonna put captions underneath both pics describing something poignant but I thought they didnt upload.

i just bought a camel-coloured suede coat. never really thought i would ever buy suede in my life, but i saw it, it was 40% off, so i tried it on and had to have it. actually, i wasn't gonna buy it and got half-way through the store before i turned around and made a bee line back to the coat.
now i just need a super duper warm coat to get me through winter. i hate wearing wool cuz it ends up smelling funky from snowy days, and i hate the big poofy coats cuz they make too much noise and i feel like the damn stay-puft. what the hell can i buy that will be warm and not smelly or noisy??

ryan....YAY for you! is it a wool coat? how many buttons?
hey guys...about the coat..hmm its 3/4 give or take probably a bit more give cuz im short =P..its not poofy and

I'm heading to north for two weeks in the winter so I decided I needed to buy a new winter coat. I scored this awesome pink long wool coat from value village! It's a light pink and a cream color with a hood and two wooden buttons. I love it and it was only 3.50! ^__^

www.karmaloop.com has Zoo York stuff but I don't see the snorkel jacket on there.
Also, I was at Century 21 about a month ago and they had a rack of Final Home stuff for (relatively) cheap. They didn't really have any thick coats but they did have some jackets with all the zippers so you could stuff it with whatever you want to keep yourself warm. Of course, this was a month ago so who knows if anything is left.
Maybe pick up a Spiewak?
yeah i like the spiewak stuff too...remember when we checked out canal? they had good prices but of course nothing in my size by that time darnit
speaking of snorkels, i finally got around to getting one. its from the gap, yeah yeah hate all you want, but i like it, and its done the trick so far. plus karmaloop never has my size dammit.

get it at the gap cause at least it'll be cheap...no no...be like me and spend $200 five years ago so then you can gloat about how you had it first..with the real ones you can wear nothing but a t-shirt all day long...uh...as long as your outside and as long as if you're inside....it's really warm...i'm telling you dudes...go duffel coat....

I need to buy a new winter coat also. I t sux cause I have 4-5 really nice ones, but they're all in, get this.... HAWAII! Stoopid right! Long story, but basically had them boxed at a freined house, he moved and fuckin mailed them to a friends house in Hawaii! Don't ask... he's a dumbass. Anyways I have a nice DKNY that I wear now but it's a pullover... the zipper only goes halfway down the front so it's a pain to take off in th subway. I def need something with a hood... prob a snorkel.... if anyone sees anything on sale.... Holla! Yo Ryan... how much you pay? They got it in dark green by any chance?
sup doo, yeah i think they have em in dark green, but not online, you have to check the stores, theyre ~125
when i was in canada, esprit of all places had some of the nicest coats..go figure

Bought a new coat yesterday. Well, actually it's just a shell.
My usual winter wear is a Mountain Hardware Polartec 300 fleece which usually works just fine until the temp drops below 20F (or the wind kicks up). At that point, I usually just add a shell.
Well, I was getting tired of my pullover Burton shell that I bought a few years ago. So, I decided to get a new coat.
Went shopping at REI (gotta get more use out of my co-op membership).
I ended up spending an hour and a half trying on coats. At first I was looking for a whole system (shell w/ zip-in liner). Couldn't find anything that I really liked except for this sweet 686 number (http://www.rei.com/online/store/ProductDisplay?storeId=8000&catalogId=40000008000&productId=47837580&parent_category_rn=4501633&vcat=REI_SEARCH). But, I kinda balked on that price. Plus, the zipper didn't work well. It would get up to neck height and then it would jam whenever I tried to go higher than that. It's a shame because it was a nice little parka. The liner was too light, though.
Then I remembered that I didn't need all that. I just needed a new shell.
So, I ended up buying the Quiksilver Endurance Shooter McGavin model shell. It was between that shell and a Burton Ronin shell. The Quiksilver had a better level of waterproofing and breathability. Nice shell.
Though, I saw a sweet jacket that I wished I could have had a use for. It was a 686 quilted parka. Part of their ACE series. The inside of the jacket had artwork by Dalek on it. Looked nice.
