We number around 3 or 4. Well, actually one doesn't read Giant Robot. But he likes the same stuff we like....punk rock, Asian movies, Asian food and culture. So, anyways, ever since August, these are the things we've done:
-watched "The Cure" at the Ken, a Japanese suspense film about hypnotism
-watched "Brother" starring Beat Takeshi as a Yakuza gangster living in America
-ate at various restaurants especially a Vietnamese noodle shop
-had two gaming nights playing various board games
-went to the 2nd annual San Diego Asian Film Festival watching The Flip Side, Shiri, Close Call, American Adobo etc.
-hung out at Tower Records in La Jolla
-played some pool in Clairemont
-browsed several bookstores
-went to Lou's Records in Encinitas
-went to the Casbah to watch the Dragons play
Anyways, we're looking for other San Diego readers to join us. It doesn't matter what part of SD you live. It doesn't matter if you're Chinese, Japanese, Filipino, Korean, Vietnamese, or white. Don't be afraid. We don't bite.
fellow sd robot right here. went to the film festival too. the museum where i work at co-presented a movie. good fun. am moving right now. maybe we can swap hits later! in the meantime, live good week!

punk rock? that's cool. i'm not really into the same things other gr heads are into - i just like the mag for what it is and isn't...does that not make me a head too? :(
i was at the sdaff too - I didn't know what to think about Close Call at first but then it came to me - horrible.

Of course you're a head because its all about diversity of interests. (cue: rainbow and bunnies hopping across my sentiment)
re: Close Call.
It was a R-rated After-School Special. I couldn't wait for it to be over and when I found out that the director's daughters were in the movie it made me even more uncomfortable.

like i said.. the movie wasn't the best, but i still give credit to those who come together to work on a project and see it through to completion.
the actual making of the film deserves recognition, b/c honestly, there was a lot of hard work put into it, and how many of us have made a film? well, enough babblin'..
don't get me wrong, some of the writing could be different, and the last kite scene was cheezeee ..
sue, what other films did you see? i dunno if you got my message or not.. anywayz.. peaz

well it's one thing to finish a product - but if you're gonna spend your time and energy putting out something - shouldn't it possses a sense of quality? some thoughtful development?
But I'm the fool for watching it when I could watch something else for free.
I thought Princess Fever would've made a more interesting film.
Roads and Bridges and Green Dragon on the otherhand I would've paid money to see - seamless transitions compared to the former.
shoe - yeah i got your message - you missed out on a free buffet! drunk girls! and drunk girls dancing with each other!

I think what shoegaze meant to say is "awwww, playah, that's every friday night for us."
saw pavilion of women at the film festival as well. mixed thoughts. beautifully shot, but too melodramatic. what does everyone check out in town?

Hey Shammy, if you're interested in kicking it with us,
when you have time, just shoot me an email. I put together
the mass emails among the San Diego GR-addicts.
So you're moving? Out of town or within San Diego?
What does everyone check out in town? I hit
the Casbah for my live music fix, La Jolla Shores for my
boogie boarding addiction, Torrey Pines State Beach for beach jogs and Penasquitos Canyon for outdoor runs, Lou's Records for my indie-punk music fix

Hey, I've been talking to Martin Wong through email a couple of times. He says that he might visit SD in a weekend or two. This would be a perfect opportunity for SD Robots to meet. Plus, we can hang with Martin eating mexican food at places like Alberto's or Roberto's.

What do I consider fun in SD??? Hmm...I'll start with my favorite drinking spots...in no particular order:
1. Bar Dynamite - We've already talked about this joint...cheap, strong drinks, no cover, and nice rare groove, soul and hiphop beats (on fridays and saturdays). Not as cool as it used to be, but better than most joints.
2. Nunu's - A dive spot in Hillcrest with an eclectic, cool clientele. Great place to pre-party. Cocktails are old-school and the music from the jukebox is butter.
3. Star Bar - Reminds me of a GI bar in Manila or Saigon, pre-1975. The waitresses/bartenders are all Asian women and look like like extras from "Full Metal Jacket." Sucky sucky, two dolla make you holla! A dream spot for AF's (that's asian fetishists, not Abercrombie and Fitch). Strong and cheap cocktails though.
4. Onyx Room - Sometimes cool. Sometimes not cool. Drinks are too expensive, but i dig the chicks.

Wassup SD Robots!
After 8 years of living in Irvine, CA, I'm moving back to SD. My business partner and I want to move into a cool loft for our graphic design biz/t-shirt line. There's no real cool lofts in Orange County. I wanted to try LA, but his girlfriend lives in La Jolla...
We found a spot in the middle of downtown. Hope to see fellow GR peeps around town. I used to do flyers for clubs and Raves in SD until about 95. Hope to get back into the scene.
I can't believe I'm going back! If you walk around downtown and you hear someone playing Gran Turismo or Phantasy Star Online real loud or you hear the sounds of Cowboy Bebop coming from a loft, it's probably us.

I'm really proud where I live-Mira Mesa. Many call this place "Manila Mesa" or "Little Manila" but I'm not offended. In fact, most of my neighbors are white. It's because it's near the military base and the Catholic church that so many Filipinos live here. But the streets are clean and straight. And almost everything is here-malls, bookstores, and a big movie theatre. I even go to the Epicentre once in a while and think that this is the hippest place for punk rock in San Diego.

Hello San Diego Robots-
I just received an email from MontyBurnz and was pleased to see that the SD robot population is bountiful. Cool, cool. I'm super-stoked to hear that some of you/us are graphic designers and t-shirt designers, I've done my share of that and would be highly interested to check out the vaunted studio/loft...but no one's been posting here as of late, hopefully this will revive the thread as it would be cool to meet some of you or at least talk to you guys. My email is tonybricker@hotmail.com if anyone is interested...
Shoegaze- we should get together and listen to music, I remember talking to you in the "downtempo" thread in the Ghetto Blaster room.

Hey GR peeps...
I did get a loft down here in Downtown SD. The ceiling height is average but the floor space is good (1150 sq. feet).
I'm still moving stuff in. Last weekend we hit Lowes and Ikea four days in a row...we is almost done.
-Downtown is pretty noisy on certain nights.I just turn up the volume on Devil May Cry or the Final Fantasy DVD.
-We had to go to Sears at UTC after busting our vaccuum--we had been using it without a bag. Anyways, I was kinda sad noticing that Yellow Brick Road was no more and the really crappy UTC movie theater was gone.
-All the promoters and clubbers I knew are gone. At least it's very reassuring to know that a new generation has picked up the mantle and continue the 619 tradition of throwing good parties.
-My roomate is looking forward to hitting Jollibee soon (he's vietnamese). After years of me bagging on Bolsa and Little Saigon, he gets his turn to bag on Flips. I'm going to give him a tour of Chula, National City and Plaza Manila.
-We want to invite GR over during the next Comic Con.
I'll post pics of our humble pad when we're done. We've got a little Astro Boy postcard collection displayed and little doodads all over the place. (I'll post a secret URL in a month or two).

Well I haven't been to a Jollibee since 87 and that was in the Phillipines. It's considered the McDonald's of the Phillippines.
Here's their site: http://www.jollibee.com.ph/
On TV, they have scary commercials featuring a big dancing Bumblebee.
Last I heard, there's a Jollibee in Chula Vista, San Diego but I haven't been there yet.
I do remember the burgers tasted kind of odd but that could have been the quality of the meat in the PI.
I hope to snag stuff with the bee logo when I drop by.
I wonder if they call the fries "pries" on the menu...

i sent this email out to everyone in 'Dago I had an email address for:
Hey,
I was browsing the lineup for the Ken, Landmark's movie theater in
Kensington, and I ran across some flicks y'all might be interested in
seeing en mass as a San Diego GR-type meet.
Nov 30-Dec6: Vampire Hunter D. Anime that I know nothing about and its
third in a series. Still, the animation looks very good.
Dec 7-13: Audition. Japanese movie about a guy who is looking for a new
wife and he gets more than he bargains for. All I know is that the director
is a sicko-over-the-top-gorehound-freak. So, I wouldn't be surprised if you
don't want to see this. But, then who will I hide behind when things get
scary?
Jan 18-24: A matter of Taste. French thriller that won a bunch of French "Academy Awards."
Feb 22-28: What Time Is It There? Movie by a Taiwanese director about
"obsession, alienation, and repressed desire." The description makes it
sound interesting. who knows.
oh yeah, the website is http://www.LandmarkTheaters.com...check it out there's a number of films that I didn't mention. I don't know your tastee.
I still want to see: Mullholland Drive, Donnie Darko, The Man Who Wasn't
There, Harry Potter, Heist, and the Royal Tenenbaums (hasn't come out yet, but I'm
delirious with anticipation.)
exiting stage left
yours truly,

werd to bigberd...
theres quite a few robots that live in nyc or near it, but ive only met a fraction of them and itd be nearly impossible to round them all up mainly cuz not all of them would want to anyway..so i wouldnt say that people arent meeting up cuz theyre lazy, but rather they have other things to do, is that so hard to believe?
maybe you came off more harsh than you meant to be, but i know when i invite people to meet up its always an open invitation, i dont want to exclude anyone but at the sametime, its cool if 1 other person shows up or if 10 people show up..

Umm, about them 700 posts: most of them were mine. It was a sick ploy to make people think the Burnz had interesting shit to say. Sort of like the time I stuffed my own Valentine's box in 4th grade. just kidding just kidding
Seriously, I don't think you intended to alienate people, Sethius. I'm guessing you just wanted to stir the pot to get folks to come out of the woodwork. We all know the only way to do that is to get rich and famous.
In conclusion...I'm starting to sound like a 4th grade paper...I'd love to kick it with all the local robots, but

Be careful what you wish for: you could meet a guy like Shoegaze who will ask to use your bathroom and once he's in there he dips your toothbrush in the toilet and puts it back. He'll poke holes in your condoms. Shoegaze sends people the ILOVEU virus. He replaces your punk cd's with Celine Dion and R. Kelly. He bitch slaps women for no reason. Can't trust no one these days.

What Time Is It There? Definitely go see that movie at the Ken. The director Tsai Ming Liang is rad and so is the lead actor Lee Kang Shang... (I could be off on the spellings.) Make sure you're not tired, though. It's not one for short attention spans.
What, no one gets rolled potato tacos at Don Carlos Taco Shop in La Jolla then watches the sea lions at the children's pool?

Thanks for the movie tip, Martin. I was on the fence about that one.
My ex-gf, I call her the Notorious C.H.O., turned me on to Don Carlos's Po-tacos. There was debate, in some quarters, whether they are authentic mexican food. And they actually are countryside cuisine.
The sea lions are cool. Before they put the barrier up, I saw a really drunk asshole take his flip-flops off and do a quick drumroll on one of them critters. I'm not a violent man, but the urge to throttle did flash through me. I was like Bruce Banner having a hot flash.

Sorry I got carried away. Actually it's my grudge with San Diego in general. I've lived here for 26 years. I've seen friends come and go. But I'm just saying that the people here are a bit conservative. There's lots to do in SD, no doubt about that. But I'm tired of seeing empty streets and people just staying at home. You have to admit that this thread reflects the attitude of this city. So I just wanted to point that out.
But it's a new decade. I'm meeting new people all the time. Life is good. I'm just looking for more variety and meeting more people to share the Asian-American experience.

I just wanted to say that it was cool to meet some of you folks last night, you know who you are. I was thinking about the movie this morning while washing my hair (imagining what it would be like to have D's long raven locks, and atalking face embedded in your hand) and decided I liked it for the most part.
The part with the flying vampire rocketship gets my vote for weirdest part of the movie.

I don't get why, in Vampire Hunter D, they never show D's fight with the werewolf guy. The werewolf just ends up dying. It was a wacky movie, but I liked it.

my personal theory is tht it's because the werewolf guy was the weakest of the 3 bodyguards. The first two, I thought, had some pretty badass powers.
The shadow guy reminded me a lot of the shadow guy from Ninja Scroll.

I love Ninja Scroll. It's a pretty crazy movie, I've seen it probably almost 20 times, I had it on video a few years ago and lost it. The more I thihnk about it, the more I agree that it was like Vampire Hunter D- the art, aspects of the plot, everything. Ninja Scroll (the original movie, not thenew series) is like D but with Samurai and a more cohesive plot. And it's a little more extreme as far as sex and violence go. I think it's more badass in general, but then again, I love the movie...

Hey SD robots...
Where's the best place to catch a flick? I need to get Lord of Rings tix by this weekend. I usually get tix at AMC Mission Valley (if they can confirm the showing is on a big screen).
How's the Edwards down here? I use to go to the Edwards Irvine Spectrum all the time since they post which films are in the big theaters.

Good question. my 2 cents:
I have negative feelings towards Mission Valley because its
in that kiddie mall and I got a fire alarm pulled during a movie once. (Its happened 3 times to my friend.) So, that's my bias.
I've been to the new Edwards in Mira Mesa and it has a big screen and stadium seating.
There's also a chain of theaters called the Pacific Theaters. I know their Clairemont Mesa location has stadium seating, but their screen isn't huge.

It's been fun. We got done setting up our pad after one month of work. Now we're just kicking back and spending the rest of the year throwing around new ideas for graphics and stuff we want to do.
I've been killing seagulls in MGS2, pulling my hair out waiting for Fellowship of the Ring (finished the entire Lord of Rings Book) and people-watching 7th Street. The Buffet at Sycuan is pretty good. At the rate we've been kicking back, we won't get our web stuff done until 2003! But that's OK. After 9/11, we're in no rush to bury ourselves in work.
We've been going up to OC and LA about every other week. It's cool being back in SD.

I've only lived here 5 years. Its hard to get nostalgic.
But, it is interesting to think back to the first day I arrived in SD and I didn't know Coronado from La Mesa. Over time, I got familiar with the city...it was like one of those computer games where the unknown areas are fogged in until your character explores.
What else. People tell me SD used to be much smaller with less development. Basically the area where I work has exploded over the last 10 years.

I remember MIra Mesa used to be totally bare. That Target shopping area was nothing, just a pile of mud. I remember me and my friends walking home across the lot while getting our shoes filled with mud. That was around '86/'87.
-my family buying a house, when MIra Mesa was still a growing community.
-walking to school and seeing the street leading to Sorrento Valley/805 freeway was not even built.
-having a picnic at Miramar Lake, when the area was not filled with wild grass.
-going to Yellow Brick Road at UTC and playing video games
-selling newspaper subscriptions all over North County around '89
-going to my first Comic-Con in '94 or '95.
and
-I thought 2001 was a good year in San Diego.

Been enjoying being back in SD and living downtown. I thought I'd have lots of time to finish my website and do art for myself but FFX and the Gamecube have kept me busy.
As for SD memories, I have many positive ones but the one I can't shake was one strange day in the early 80's--the day a gunman walked into a McDonalds and shot people (I think it was Imperial Beach). Now it seems we have a new shooting event every 2 months (Columbine, disgruntled workers, etc.).
Been itching to do flyers for the SD club scene but all my promoter buddies have moved on.As for my latest work, I just did a cover for Newsweek International. The Japan website has it:
http://www.nwj.ne.jp/
It will be up for only a week (1/9/02 to 1/16/02). I did the guy in the suit getting up. I usually do covers regularly for Europe and Asia, but they've relied on photos since 9/11. Seems like magazines are getting away from the Terrorist story (check out Time's i-mac cover).
It was trippy going back to Plaza Manila, er Bonita for the first time in 4 years today.

Aww man...I be up in Irvine that weekend.
Anyways, BOTW might not be the best flick to catch that day. I just caught a matinee of it today at Mission Valley. Action was OK but a lot of the flick is reaally slow.
The coolest thing was seeing the trailer for "The Debut". I caught this flick in OC last year and I'm sure it will do very well in SD. I took my parents to a screening in OC and they told all their barcadas/friends in SD about it.
On another film note, Black Hawk Down is a stunning book. I can't wait to see the film after hearing glowing reviews from friends in NY and LA.

While we're on the topic of where to buy stuff...
Been in SD for 6 months and I'm out of it in terms of good stores.
Where's the best shops for videogame stuff and import (anime, Japanese) goods?
I've been trying to get my Dreamcast outfitted with a BBA and I've had to rely on net stuff. Plus, I had to hit the Gamestop mall shops to get some DC games to be able to set the BBA modem. To make a long story short, I got shipped the wrong modem (Buyrite sucks) and I've had to resort to bidding on e-bay ($140). I'd gladly pay anyone that amount around SD for the BBA instead of using ebay.
Wish I knew videogame sources around SD--the only ones I know are in OC/LA.
On another note, why the heck are they showing "Showtime" on AMC Mission Valley's Digital screen when "Ice Age" should be on it?

I'm only aware of Gamestop as a source of game stuff.
I don't know any good mom n' pop stores...
I don't buy import stuff either. I've seen anime at Fry's.
You might want to check some local comic shops...I shop at Comic Gallery, but that seems a little pricey.

SD isn't that bad. I'm from SD but I live in LA now. I miss SD. I miss the beaches and the laidbackness of the place. I really miss the weather. You might not think that there's that much of a difference b/n LA weather and SD but there is. SD climate is similar to only the mediteranean coast. It's an arid desert.
Try to live by the coast. Good luck.

You might not think that there's that much of a difference b/n LA weather and SD but there is. SD climate is similar to only the mediteranean coast. It's an arid desert.
Try to live by the coast. Good luck.
LA is in a valley basin where air doesn't move that's why it gets so hot and you got the problem with smog. But LA has a ton more going on...
San Diego is conveniently located to a lot of fun stuff like the desert, Mexico, the beach, the mountains. It's more conservative than LA...the free local paper doesn't even allow gays to advertise in the personals section. What's up with that? But my gripe is the lack of good asian food...the Chinese, Korean, and Japanese food isn't that good.

I should have posted this 2 months ago...
I've never had to pay for the Comic Con for the past 7 years. It's very easy to register as a "proffesional" if your line of work "sounds" creative.
Since my business and line of work is graphic design, I've been able to weasel a set of 6+ free tickets since 1997.
I should have posted the address and info. here--In all that time, I've never gotten a call asking for a fax to prove my business.
And once you're in the system, it's easy to re-register every year.
If you can only go one day, check the movie presentation schedule. I think the Two Towers presentation is on Friday and I believe the stars of the awful looking Daredevil flick will be there Saturday.
Hope to see Colin Farrell since he's one of the coolest actors around (my buddies first thought he was hapa).
Oh, and we always try to bring any interested kids with us. Some of them who were in elementary school when we took 'em are now regular showgoers. Kids always go nuts at the con getting all the freebies. Be sure to get your favorite nephews/nieces a GR shirt so they'll be the coolest at the playground.
Oh, and don't bring any boyfriends/girlfriends with no interest in comics/anime/sci-fi. They're usually "over" the show by the time you get to the dealer area (if you start by walking in GR territory).

It's too late...we sent this year's application on the day it was due (I think July 15th).
I'll post the info once my business partner gets back from working at a client's office.
A professional pass gets you 1 adult pass, 1 guest pass and a kid's pass.
Also, you won't have to wait in the long line that wraps around the convention center and you have access to the floor on the night before it opens.

Quick question for SD bots...
Where's the cheapest place to buy art supplies/acrylic paint in SD?
I've been back in SD for less than a year. When I went to UCSD, I used to get stuff at some art store on India St. and a paint supply shop on 16th str.
I need to paint 2 large canvasses by the weekend (for some possible post Comic Con parties). I'm gonna do two paintings of Bruce Lee.

If you have the time, check the rest of this thread for places
to eat.
I'll throw some out:
Phong Trang on Convoy. Really good vietnamese.
Pokez downtown for mexican.
There's a tiny BBQ stand in Ocean Beach. I'd consider it
hidden. It's pretty darn good. I don't know the address...
it's on the main drag near a hairstylists.
Da Kine in Pacific Beach. Hawaiian food.

lancerz in university heights. theres also a great mexican joint right across the street on park.
turf club in golden hills. nice place for some eats but the drinking is all good too.

Since this thread has gravitated back to the “Best of San Diego" topic, I’ll add my two cents...
Best “Pho” Spot - Phuong Trang (not “Phong” - that would be my name) and Pho Hoa are tasty as hell...but if you like Chicken Pho check out Pho Bolsa in Manila Mesa.
Best late night Korean restaurant - Don’t know the name but there is a korean restaurant/noraebang/bar in the same strip mall as Korea House on Convoy Street. This is the place for cheap Korean food, unlimited Soju, and smoking illegally indoors...Some of the waitresses are hot too...
Best places to Break Fast - Check out Hash House A Go Go on Fifth Avenue in Hillcrest for gargantuan-sized portions...the food is healthy though...Also, The Cottage in La Jolla gets my vote for best place to eat an omelette while checking out the eye candy.
Best Dive Bars - I’ve said once, and I’ll say it again...Star Bar in downtown and Nunu’s in Hillcrest.
Oh one more...Best Place to get a Lapdance - Cheetah’s on Clairemont Mesa Blvd...sho-nuff!
Hey Monty...where ya been man? Is it just me, or have you been on the downlow? And Sanjuro..do I know you?
Regards - Phong

Oh, and on a note about October, Halloween night is really awesome at the Gaslamp. I had no plans on Halloween last year but since I lived downtown, my friends decided to check out Gaslamp.
We were blown away by the crowds, costumes and atmosphere. Next Oct. we'll try and get our LA buddies down here for something different from the usual Halloween.

I live downtown and the past few days have been nutty. Been in a drunken haze for several days.
..thought about posting how crazy it's been in SD but I think there's been enough people here.
...fireworks were awesome. One of the best fireworks shows I've ever seen. Loved that "grounder" that detonated right on the waterline.
...didn't care for who won but after seeing the attitudes of some Raiders fans, I'm kind of glad Tampa won.
...SuperBowl Experience was OK on Friday. Great for kids, but nobody was giving anything away.

I pretty much stayed clear of all the super bowl madness. Finally got around to checking out the pirates den instead. It was dope. From there I caught a glimpse of the folks packed into the trolleys and was thankful I wasn't part of that.
I hate lines.
Most people I know that went down to gaslamp, were there to see celebrities and athletes. That doesn't interest me too much but for some reason, when I saw Norm MacDonald in LA last weekend, I almost busted a nut. Go figure.

What's up, San Diego bots. I'm gonna be moving to SD next month and need some advice about the best areas to live and about possible job opportunities there. I've been actively using craigslist and contacting people about apartments. Are there any other resources I can use to help me find a place? Or do you guys have any leads yourselves? I really don't want to spend more than $600/month. What are the average rates for the various areas in San Diego? If there are places where I can get a single room or studio for less than $600, please tell me.
Also, I want to have some sort of income once I get out there. Can you please advise me about the best temp agencies in San Diego? I just need something to keep me comfortably afloat the first couple months. I know Quallcom is huge over there. What is the company who staffs them? Most of my work experience are with banking and finance.
I will be in San Diego the first week of March to find a place to settle in and to make some contacts about job opportunities. If any of y'all want to meet up, just let me know. I need to find out where all the hotspots are. First lapadance at Cheetah's is on me!

A good resource is the The Reader, SD's free weekly paper. You can find apartments, studios,
and roommate situations.
$600/month sounds low to me, but I'm not familiar
with all of SD. Basically, anything North of Downtown is out of your range unless you get roommates. It also gets more expensive the closer you get to the beach.
You should concentrate on areas south and east of downtown. The North Park neighborhood might be a good starting point.
Also, I want to have some sort of income once I get out there. Can you please advise me about the best temp agencies in San Diego?...Most of my work experience are with banking and finance.
Crack open the yellow pages for temp agencies.
I think TD Waterhouse and Charles Schwab have offices.

Strange day in SD...there was a shooting in front of my pad/building. I've been in downtown SD for nearly 2 years and this is the first shooting to happen outside my window.
I looked out right after the gunshots and all I saw was a brown car getting away from a parking lot. Within 15 minutes, they had 6 cop cars.
They had CSI looking people go over the parking lot and later they had 2 big cameras (video? 3D?) take footage of the area.
Two hours later, a detective dropped by and I gave my account of what happened.
No bodies found...but there were 3-4 shots.
The funny thing is I was checking out the Robot Lounge and my computer is right next to the window.
Now I've seen everything...beats the day I saw a homeless woman take a crap (she did it Asian squat style).

Does anyone have a favorite karoake spot in san diego? I'm thinking about forcing my friends to go. I'm leaning towards a Korean place on Convoy since you get your own private booth, but I can't imagine the song selection being that great. I want to belt out some AC/DC damnit.

That spot on Convoy near Korea House has some good tunes there. Ive sung Eminem, Oasis, Michael Jackson, R.Kelly, and Madonna there. Me thinks they have some ACDC.

Sup SD Bots...the next Real World is in San Diego...
Anyone hear about where it's at? I think it would be cool to crash the pad or push the beautiful people around. I heard they already have a cast.
My bet is on PB (like when MTV came down and spent Spring Break here).
We should put GR stickers around the house or hood.

Well, it's about time. The Real World usually finds million dollar homes, so it'll probably be in la jolla.

he he...I did a driveby on Friday afternoon.
It's by the airport heading towards Point Loma. They redid an old restaurant called (I think) The Blue Crab.
The restaurant has fresh blue paint with a hoop and a volleyball court. The front of the house has a huge MOD target (blue ring, red circle). There's a cool flaming stingray on a balcony wall. It's at the end of a pier which has 2 sets of private boat docks.
When we got there, we were able to get near the house until a security guy spotted us. He told us it was private property and we had to split. I checked all the vehicles in the lot but nothing had any markings. There was a gray minivan parked by the volleyball court--probably to get town with.
The area is totally dead...they won't be able to hang out or walk around. They should have a great view of the city since the house faces downtown.
The addres is: 4922 N. Harbor Drive.
Head on Harbor until you get a little past the airport. It's right after/behind the submarine training base. Heck, if you can get on base, you can get right up to the house since it's by the base fence.
Oh..I got the address from Farenheit newsmagazine which got it from the MTV website.

Unfortunately, Mission Valley is a big, overdeveloped suburban sprawl that is beset with lots of overpriced chain restaurants. However, its close to Linda Vista Road where all the good vietnamese restaurants are. And if you go a mile or two north on the 805 freeway, there is a small "koreatown" on Convoy Road. That's where all the good korean food is.
You might want to check www.signonsandiego.com. You can search restaurants by type of food or area.
Are you heading up for the opening festivities on Thursday? I might see you....

No no :)
Everytime I hear of a Korean guy I ask if his name is Eugene cause I had an old freind named Eugene Kim. One time I'm on the phone with a freind and he mentions his Korean freind and I ask if his name was Eugene and the freind said yes! And I found out he is tall and has to sisters- Same with my old freind, Eugene. So my freind gives me Eugene's number, I call him and he's not the guy. :(

When Eugene Chung played for the Niners, people would come up to me and ask if I was Eugene Chung...I guess because of my size.
I think every Korean knows either a Eugene or a Grace Kim.

Can't attend the festival due to friends coming down from LA for other stuff.
...but one of them brought an actor from the festival with him and it's pretty happening. As I post this, there's a Film Fest party at E Street Alley.
Maybe we'll try to catch some stuff for the next two days. The Festival is actually spread out throughout San Diego. I thought everything was happening at Madstone/Hazard theaters.
Now I'm looking forward to next year's. Hopefully, they won't plan it on another October weekend which 4 of my friends use to celebrate birthdays.

The new downtown ballpark is gonna be dope...it reminds me of SF's. I'm groovin' on San Diego...I'm actually considering moving there. The only thing that sucks about SD (from my short visit) is the traffic near and around Mission Valley.

Stay away from there at all costs during any stadium event.
It's also pretty bad during the Holiday shopping season and Summer movie weekends.
I'm not looking forward to the new ballpark since it's right down my street and I'm worried my rent will get jacked up.

SF's ballpark is located in SOMA (south of market) and the rent is outrageously high...lots of "artist" lofts. You may be out of luck mpyre...good luck.

i think it will be the same situation at petco field with people taking the trolley to the stadium. it seems like they're really trying to build up the area around the stadium. a couple high rises are sprouting up in the vicinity and a bunch of new "artist lofts" are available around F street. i would imagine that the rent is gonna be jacked up. at least this will take away some of the congestion and overpopulation around mission valley. driving there is atrocious. i hate battling the traffic and crowds at costco on a saturday afternoon.

Are there any good After Hours in San Diego? I really miss staying up until 6am after clubbin at stuff like Romper Room or Microrave.
...Dancin' all night with friends.
...Hangin' out with the DJs and playing the Playstation games on the big screens.
...Popping "Ripped Fuel" and other ephedra laced stuff to stay up to the wee hours.
...Seeing everyone from other clubs waltz in and asking about other parties/events.
...Getting drunk and being gaurded by a Samoan bouncer while I lay on the sidewalk wasted.
My usual bedtime is 6am so I'll have no problemas staying up late.
