How do you organize your bookmarks?
I got a mess right now. My folders go:
000 ["important" shit]
art
bd [buddhist related]
Bookmark Toolbar Folder [don't use this]
buy
culture
eat
Firefox Links
go [places, trans.]
music
New Folder [unsorted shit]
peeps
Quick Searches
radio
random
tech
wear
web
...and then a looong list of more unsorted shit.
Plus there's a ton of links from Netscape, that I used at my last apt. on my friend's computer. I was high at the time. I sorted them by their place as "neural network archtypes" or some shit. So it's just like:
0
1
2
3
4
5
6
One time I put them in aphabetical order by title. Somehow, this was "easier" then putting them in categories. It took forever and...it gets a little fuzzy after that. Anyway, how you do?

I don't bookmark too often, but if I do, I don't bother sorting it.

For a time (several years) I bookmarked every page I visited.
Yeah. I'm relatively "better".

i don't organize anymore either. the sites that i vistit frequently go on my Firefox toolbar for fast access. everything else just just goes under the general bookmarks. if i ever need to find something, i just search for it in the sidebar. plus, i use the RSS feature in Firefox and Thunderbird. really handy stuff.
i'm thinking about using del.icio.us. seems kinda interesting. and i KNOW i can beat that dude as the best bookmarker. :D

I was using delicious for a while but I've switched to Yahoo's my web.
The best thing about Yahoo's bookmarking service, it will even cache a copy of the page if you want. So even if the page disappears, you still have a cached copy.

Yahoo Devours Del.icio.us
04:41 PM Dec. 09, 2005 PT
SUNNYVALE, California -- In its latest acquisition of a social networking service, internet powerhouse Yahoo on Friday chomped down on del.icio.us, a startup that enables people to more easily compile and share their favorite content on the web.
The Sunnyvale, California-based company didn't disclose how much it paid for New York-based del.icio.us because the purchase price wasn't large enough to have a significant impact on its finances.
Del.icio.us will continue to run its own website, which allows users to create a personal account so they can create a page devoted to their favorite online articles, music and reviews. The material can be shared with others simply by sending along the web link. The content also can be identified with labels, or "tags," to make it simpler to find.
More than 300,000 users have signed up for the service since del.icio.us' inception two years ago, founder Joshua Schachter said in a Friday phone interview. Schachter intends to work at Yahoo's headquarters, but del.icio.us' other eight employees will be scattered around the country.
During the past year, Yahoo has been adding more tools that promote sharing among friends and family as it battles for web traffic with its biggest rivals -- Google, Microsofts MSN and Time Warner's AOL. All of them are trying to widen their internet audiences so they can make more money from steadily increasing volume of online advertising.
Yahoo's other recent social networking acquisitions include a popular photo-tagging service, Flickr, and an event-planning service, Upcoming.org.

oh yeah.. AM Dead Link is pretty good. helps you get rid of duplicate bookmarks. and it also checks websites to see if the link is still good or not.

So I've been experiencing frustration with bookmarks now that I'm using two OSs on the same machine. I'm considering using either delicious or google bookmarks to keep my bookmarks in a shared place. I was wondering if you guys had any opinions on either tools? Is there a different tool you use?
Thanks in advance.

i still use delicious. it's pretty cool for sharing bookmarks. but you can also set bookmarks to private. i thought about trying google bookmarks. but i don't feel like signing in to my google account every time i want to bookmark something.
i signed up with delicious before it got acquired by yahoo. and so far they haven't forced users to merge their delicious account with their yahoo account, like they did with Flickr. i hope it stays that way.
alternatively, you can use Firefox extensions that sync your bookmarks across different machines. Foxmarks (http://www.xmarks.com/) is a popular one. or you can use Friendfeed and set your account to private so that only you can see them.

Xmarks is great. It syncs across browsers and machines.

Thanks SB! I guess I need to be browser independent. Using safari on mac and firefox on PC.
Looks like delicious requires a yahoo account for new users. I use gmail, so maybe staying signed-in won't be so bad. i guess it's just a matter of flipping a coin at this point.
seeing other people's bookmarks is pretty cool though. plus, delicious just looks better.
google has some great interaction designers, but man, their stuff is pretty ugly.

Thanks, esswhykay! I think that's just what I'm looking for.
I just use the read-it-later plugin or post it to tumblr. Tumblr is good for brainstorming. If you use their bookmarklet it's easy to post stuff as you go then look it up later. Unlike bookmarks you can give stuff some context. I used to go through all these sites I saved and had no idea why.

That's pretty much exactly how I use tumblr myself.

Anybody having problems syncing with read-it-later?
seems their website has a solution, but the page won't load.

x-marks doesn't like no-script. i had to fix syncing issues because of it.
