What's the wierdest, scariest, etc. dream / sleeping experience you've ever had?

Earlier this week I was dreaming while my girl was trying to wake me up in the morning (actually afternoon). I responded to her in my sleep, "No, no... I'm trying to see how much my cheese sandwich will go for on E-Bay..." I remember dreaming about this half of vegan cheese sandwich, that apparently I was trying to sell on E-Bay. I didn't want her to wake me so I could see how high the bids were.

Anyone care to share?

ps. I hope no one brought this topic up already, cos I know a few peeps were deep in that "Req For A Dream" thread, which I didn't read.

I got this idea from an episode of 20/20 a long time ago.

The best/only time people remember their dreams is right after they wake from one. So for a while, when I awoke, I would grope around for my sketch book, and start writing about it in as much detail as I could remember. Then I went back to sleep. I have a good 10-20 dreams written down. When I go back and read them, they are hella fuct up.

that's a good idea. here are a few of the more messed up ones that i remember:
i was talking to one of my friends, who i heard had started using heroin. in the dream she had track marks all up her arms and i tried not to let her notice but she did and she went mute. (!!!!!)
in another dream, i was in a real life rpg. i found this secret passageway in one of those old bread ovens (the ones made of clay) and i emerged on a forbidden level where they were holding some sort of paganistic/satanic rituals. they saw me and started chasing me and i hid out in the bread oven and they decided to make some bread and i burned to death.
and i even remember one from when i was little - chuck e. cheese came to my house with a hot poker and killed my whole family.

I remember when I was 8, I had a dream that I had Mork's costume (with the big triangle on it) from "Mork & Mindy." And I put it on and was zapping all the kids at school. When I woke up, I rummaged through my dresser and was quite upset when I learned it was missing!

Also, around the same age, I dreamt I was in my parents bedroom in front of the mirror. I learned that if I sat cross-legged, I could levitate off the ground. So when I woke up, I sat cross-legged on the floor for a couple of minutes. I was quite pissed when I learned it wasn't possible (or would take years of meditating, as some faiths would have it).

Damn, what a messed up childhood.

the weirdest dream i ever had was a recurring one in which i helped a team of scientists (or something) build this huge, black, apocalypse machine. that was how it was referred to. anyway, the machine was supposed to destroy the world.

then, the dream switches to me walking down the street, and an old lady stops me, and gives me a flower she picks.

then they set off the machine.

needless to say, it was a very disturbing dream. the first time i had it was when i was about 8 or 9.

i got a couple, but not that disturbing.

the first was about me fighting this big dragon that was choking me. it brought me in close (for to bite me head off i thinks) and i just went shithouse on his head and beat the shit out of him. later in the morning my fists hurt and my mom tells me that she had to turn me over twice because i kept slammin the wall.

the next one was about the apocalypse. the world was about to end (and it was being nationally televised) and no one could stop it (methinks it was a meteor or something. this was well prior to the asteroid movies of recent fame). so i was some kind of superhero with a dopeass cowl but i couldn't decide on which cape i was going to wear. the critical hour passes and i just ditch everyone and drive down the nearest highway in a red toyota camry and all i was thinkin was "fuck, we be screwed."

I often get those sleep paralysis feelings or experiences. I have had some jacked up shizazz happen to me. The first time it happened to me I was 14 or so and my brother and I were still sharing a room. I woke up, or at least thought I woke up, opened my eyes and saw something crawling in the dark on the right side of my bed. For a moment I thought it was my brother heading to the bathroom down the hall but then I thought why would my brother crawl to the bathroom and crawl so close to my bed (my brother slept in a single bed on the other side of the room)? So I kind of got freaked and tried to move but couldn't. Then my bed started shaking and I tried to call out for help but I couldn't do that either. On the third attempt to speak I let out a feeble "help" to God and the shaking stopped and I could move again. I got all scared and ran to my parents room and woke them up.

Anyway that is kind of the edited version. Anyone else have some sleep paralysis stories, I have a bunch more if you want to hear them.


I love flying or levitating dreams. THe cool thing is that I get better at the willful levitating in my dreams as real time goes by as if my sleeping practice is actually paying off. To levitate in my dreams I have to utilize my aura and chi concentrating it below me with my hands and using it as kind of repulsive energy kind of like how two magnets of the same pole repulse eachother. It's hella fun :P

Another cool thing about my dream flying technique is that it is based on my real life expereince but just taken to a greater degree. Sometimes if I mediate or draw on the Lord's blessing and I can feel the energy in my hands I can start to concentrate energy there and if I get a strong enough force I can feel a resistance when my hands approach eachother.

i hate those dreams where you're all paralyzed. it freaks me out. i can never remember many of my dreams, but that feeling of not being able to move scares the shit out of me.

one dream i do remember didn't even feel like a dream, it was so damn real. i thought i was still in bed, and heard people in the other room as i tried to get up but couldn't. and i started to freak out thinking i was really paralyzed, and nothing was working. i couldn't lift my head, my arms, my legs. it's a really bad feeling. i woke up with a cold sweat and couldn't go back to bed.

Yeah, sleep paralysis is f'n freaky. Sometimes, like after seeing a scary movie, I'd lie there in my bed. All of a sudden, I don't know I'm asleep, and I'm still in my room, staring at the ceiling. The voices in my head start getting louder and louder, and the shadows in the room start moving. I'm totally freaking out and hallucinating, but I think to myself, "whatever the hell you are, BRING IT ON!" Just when the shadows are upon me, I shock myself awake.

I've had a few sort of like that. Once I was lying on my bed taking a nap during the day, and my roomate was typing on the computer. All of a suden I hear all these whispering and scuttering noises and they kept getting louder and louder. I could totally see my room and hear my roomate typing while this was happening. I started to get the feeling like all this whispering was coming from strange invisible creatures that were surrounding me so I used all the strength of my will to break out of the paralysis and i just sort of woke with a yelp.

In all my personal cases of sleep paralysis I can always hear and see my normal suroundings but then I'll see, hear and feel all this other worldly dream like stuff. It usually is accompanied with a weight on my body and the inability to speak. So either I'm awake and some strange ass spirit or "sitting ghost" is mess'n with me, or I am conscious mentally but asleep physically, and somehow still semi connected with the strangness of the dream conscience that adds in all this wierd dream imagry, sound, and tactility to help explain the inability to move. I think it's a combination of both. I am inclined to believe that there is a spirit world and that when we dream we catch glimpses of it. So maybe these experiences are both mental and spiritual. What do you think robo people?

I'm inclined to believe it's all just leftover images and sounds from either movies, or some other stimuli. And your synapses are just firing randomly because you're not in control of your thinking at that moment, since you are asleep. But it is odd how we are manifesting it in the same way, with loudening voices and creepy, suffocating imagery. I think whenever I have this dream, I always attribute it to one night when I was watching "Children Shouldn't Play with Dead Things" on Elvira's show back when I was only 8. My mom was a horror movie addict.

I'm glad that people brought up this paralysis issue. I've been having these 'moments' during my sleep that I can't really explain. The thing is that I'm not really dreaming though... I'm kind of 'awake' too.. I've been getting these moments about 4 years ago. Before that it's never happened to me. What happens is that in the morning, I'll find myself 'awake', but I'm still stuck in my body. Kind of like I have a consciousness within my unconsciousness. It's a very, very uneasy feeling. I don't know how else to explain it. It's like I was going through all the processes of waking up, then for some reason, I wasn't able to flick on the last switch I needed to to come to consciousness. And I can't move....I can't fully wake up...so what I do everytime during these moments is, to try to 'will' myself up. I try to 'will' myself to roll off the bed so the physical shock of hitting the floor would wake my physical self. It really drains me of energy. And it's really hard too....most times my eyes eventually slowly pop open, but with great difficulty,..it always feels like a vacuum is trying to suck me back into this realm of subconscious limbo. If I don't continue to will myself up, I do get sucked back, and I have to go through the struggle all over again. Oh, and my physical body never seems to roll or hit the ground, but I think the thought of the shock of the hit eventually causes me to wake. I just truly wish that someone would through a bucket of ice water during these times to wake me up.. it's the worst feeling in the world.

Has anybody else had an experience similar to this? It's like dream paralysis, except I'm not dreaming, I am conscious.... I'm just stuck in my body that isn't awake. And it's freaky...I don't know why it's just started to happen in these last recent years. It feels like someone's trying to drown my consciousness and soul..

I think one of the scariest dreams I ever had was being sentenced to death by hanging and then being actually led up to the gallows and having the noose put around my head but I woke up right after the noose was tightened.

About the paralysis thing, what seems to help is to not to panic. Slowly increase your breathing. Don't hyperventilate. Try to get more oxygen in your system. Sort of like getting your body started. Its not an instant thing but you break out of that paralysis and you can wake up quicker.

as for sleep paralysis, what i do is i concentrate on moving just one part of my body, like a finger or something. that usually breaks it.

i dont have specific dreams to describe but i do have situations. its the ultra real feeling dreams where you SWEAR that they are real. i have them about once every 5 monhts or so. the bad part is, that they are ALWAYS me getting into SERIOUS trouble with the law, or someone is trying to kill me, or i am in some terrible war scene with death everywhere, or i am being chased by some monster or robot or death. but the dreams never wake me up, which i suppose makes them all that much worse. i cant even begin to explain the amount of relief i feel when wake up.

Do any of you ever loose your breath during your sleep paralysis? The other day while going somewhere in a car (I wasn't driving) I dosed off,and as was waking up I had this sleep paralysis for what must have been like 8 seconds, for which i was unable to breath. And then once I finally was able to take a gasp of air I started coughing uncontrolably for about 20-30 seconds as if I was choking on water. weird

Two strange dreams I had recently...

A few days ago: I walk in the side door of my childhood home... I turn to the kitchen and see a short woman there, my mom is horrified to see this lady, like "ugh, I hate this woman look," but I hear the woman say "I'm your aunt" and I know she's from Korea... the woman turns around and it's my dead Korean grandmother except for a few slight physical differences... her eyes are slits (no asian jokes) and seem empty, and her jaw is more manly, and she looks evil... that was it.

Earlier today: I'm in NYC... it's hot as hell so I'm lying in the middle of the street because the concrete is cool... it seemed like it was around 8th and 3rd Ave, if I remember correctly, like by the McDonald's and book store... I'm lying on the ground with my friend, surfing the web on my lap top... I look around, I see a cop, I wonder if he's going to come down on me for lying in the middle of the street, but there's no traffic and it's so hot, it seems as if he understands... anyway, for some reason I take my laptop to the curb next to the sidewalk, my laptop is closed and when I open it it automatically starts playing "Hungry Eyes" from Dirty Dancing... I'm panicking because I don't want people around me to hear that I have that mp3 in my computer... it keeps playing and I'm praying my computer wakes up before you can hear the singer's voice... I'm trying to cover the speakers with my hands, it's almost time for the first verse... too late, Eric starts singing... but I finally manage to get it off and I start surfing the web again and I see a homeless guy, so I discreetly wrap my laptop bag's strap around my arm in case he tries to rob me... the homeless guy notices and says to me "oh, you want trouble, huh? Okay, you got it." I woke up feeling nervous. It took a while to realize it was just a dream.

sometimes, when I'm in a half dream half wake state. I can hear music playing in my head. like a loud orchestra, or band. sometimes I hear voices, like my mother calling my name. or the voice of a childhood crush talking to me. it was very scary/comforting.

after a while I learned able to control it, choosing what songs I want to hear in my head. (in any language). or even my own lyricss, sung by any artist. or whoevers voice I want to hear, saying whatever I want them to say. I hear this is not uncommon for people to do this. I think being half asleep allows you to patch into your subconcious.

I fear the days when I am old, and my parents have past away, and I hear my mothers voice calling me to come eat or watch a documentary on the telly. :( makes me sad thinking of it.

The only reoccurring themes are spiders and plants coming at me from my ceiling. I see them when I'm half asleep, half awake. Lately, I've been seeing a lot of people from my past.

The past few months, I've been having those dreams where you know you're dreaming, and you feel scared and vulnerable. I try to wake up. It takes a while, and meanwhile, I feel like I'm going to suffocate. It really sucks and sometimes it happens over and over every time I fall back asleep.

Last night had a really depressing dream. I talked to my mom earlier for mother's day, heard they got together for a barbeque. In my dream, my family and I were just sitting around in our old house, watching TV, and I felt really happy. I told my sister, my materialistic sister, that even if I become fabulously wealthy, I want to buy a smaller house like the one we live in so that nobody can escape each other, we'll be close, talk a lot. I want a loud, creative, talkative family. She thought it was a stupid idea. It was weird because we were sitting around in the kitchen and watching a small television on top of the refrigerator. I'm awake right now because the dream made me so sad that I can't sleep.

Last year, my boyfriend and I were napping and I was dreaming of a thunder storm. The thunder was so loud and sounded so real. Come to find out, the thunder I was hearing in my dream was my boyfriend's loud farts. xD Apparently farts are what dreams are made of.

I guess this goes with lucid dreaming. but every so often when I'm caught somewhere between a lucid dream and being awake. I hear loud music playing in my head. and with concentration i'm able to change the music, language of the song or create my own, often backed by a full orchestra.

last nights dream involved me being invisible in a library filled with people. seeing a girl I had a crush on. stopping time. then going up and kissing that girl. suddely time started again, as I was kissing her. and things were really awkward after that.

I would like to think I remember a lot of my dreams, but since "a lot" is relative and I have no idea just how many dreams I have a night, I can't really be sure.

A reoccurring theme in my dreams is having longer hair and being surprised that it grew so fast (I keep my hair at about 1/8" in reality). Most recently I was very excited that it was so long and within the dream I even said "I'm glad it's not a dream this time."

I'm decide to once again try to grow my hair out, I got it to about an inch the last three times I tried...

Me and some friends are suddenly on Spring Break, and I'm thinking it's going to be weird being a white guy. Think my head was smaller and I looked forward to wearing a hat on the beach and hooking up with white girls. But I'm looking at the mirror and my hair is pretty unmanageable. I could see it would have to be cut very short. And I started missing my old Asian face. Suddenly I'm home with my parents, and my dead grandmother is there, I'm helping my parents move into a new house and we're moving a bed into a room that's going to be for my grandmother. She's happy to be living with us again. I wonder if they don't like my new white face. They don't seem to mind and I tell them I really miss my Asian face and I totally mean it. Last night I had a Momosu dream. But not like that. It was about how they have to rearrange the carpool everytime somebody leaves the group.

I'm sure it doesn't work that way for them. My dreams are pretty boring anymore. It's usually some anxiety shit about forgetting to do something or somebody being mad at me.

I had a weird dream. I was at the office, and someone brought in their talking dog. It was the same breed as Eddie, the dog from the Fraiser TV show. So I’m introduced to the dog, and to be polite, I ask it, “How are you?” Big mistake, because the dog wouldn’t shut up. It wasn’t a conversation, really. I’d try to cut in to ask questions, but he kept talking. I didn’t want to be rude and abruptly walk away, but I was getting bored.

Luckily, there was a future issue of GR on the ground. (I couldn’t read the cover, but I knew it was issue number :). The cover was pink and it had a photocopy of some artist’s hand instead of the usual illustration.) The cover said that there was an article about talking dogs inside (“How to get rid of yappy dogs”), so I opened it up, and pulled out a fold-out poster. The poster had a photo of another dog and a blank cartoon word balloon. I propped the poster in front of the dog, and wrote “Yes, I’m listening” in the balloon. The talking dog thought the dog on the poster was real so he began talking to it, and I made a hasty retreat.

I was in a brightly lit cave, waist deep in a gooey, amber ocean of honey. The scientist in front of me (clad in khaki expedition gear, complete with a pith helmet) kept telling me to look for fossilized bees stuck in the honey. He was going to analyze the remains as part of his study of colony collapse disorder. We couldn’t find anything. We didn’t see any bees flying around either. Oddly, traveling through the honey was not difficult--we moved at normal walking pace. At one point, I got hungry, so I dipped a fork into the honey and tried to eat it, but the scientist warned me that the bees might have taken the nectar from poisonous plants, so I stopped.

last night, i dreamt i was hanging out with werner herzog and his adopted son, a boy named goo. at that time i was wondering if the sonic youth album goo was named after this kid. anyway, herzog was telling me that goo was an abandoned orphan and he would like to find goo's parents so that he can have another boy just like goo in case anything happens to this one. i was trying to explain to herzog that it was not a good idea, because not only would it be almost impossible to get a child that's genetically identical this way, but even if the other child is genetically identical, it would be impossible to have the exact same child because he'd be raised differently.

while i was saying this, herzog was driving up a freeway onramp. i looked down the onramp and saw this t rex running full speed towards us. unfortunately, right at this moment i was awoken by my alarm clock. i really would have loved to see what werner herzog would do in a head-on collision with a t rex on the freeway.

I've been experimenting with my lucid dreams since I was first aware of what they were. in my head, in my waking life. I would develop characters, scenarios, storylines, and play them out in my head. for example, in my mind I'd pretend to be this super hero, give myself whatever powers etc.

One of his teammates comes up to me and we walk out of the stadium together and all of a sudden I'm working in some glass kiosk someplace and it's near an airport. It's about to thunderstorm and I was wondering if I was safe inside the kiosk with the lightning and all. I tried to get out and then all of a sudden I was outside on the airstrip watching the planes, wondering if they were going to be okay in the storm. I turn to my left and was downtown (can't place the city, though i think it had buildings from Toledo and NY) and a plane crashed, just dove right down and exploded and we were dodging all sorts of flaming debris.

I watched Star Wars Ep. 1 before I went to bed (it was on tv) and I think it made my mind fill with action or something.

I had my dirty foot up on the table and I couldn't believe it because I don't do that at all. There was some conversation about it, too. I felt rude, which I never am, so it was very strange.

I would like to have lunch with these 2 great ladies in real life so I kind of hope this dream doesn't affect that happening. :D

Plot
The Doctor, Romana, K9 and Adric - an Outler from Alzarius who has stowed away aboard the TARDIS - arrive on a planet where the native villagers live in fear of 'the Wasting' and of three Lords named Zargo, Camilla and Aukon who rule from an imposing Tower. The Lords are soon revealed to be vampire servants of the last of the Great Vampires, a race referred to in Time Lord mythology.

The Great Vampire is about to be revived from its resting place beneath the Tower - in fact the spaceship in which the Lords, in their original human forms, came to E-Space - but the Doctor launches one of the ship's three shuttle craft and it pierces the heart of the creature, killing it. I got into a car with this woman that I'm acquainted with. We were carpooling or something. I hunkered down inside her blood-orange colored VW bug (an original one) and thanked her for the lift, but she didn't say anything. She didn't even look at me. After a while, she glared at me for what seemed like an eternity, and then let loose a torrent of angry and bitter verbal abuse. She got so worked up, steam visibly rose from her head and fogged up the windows. I tried to get out, but the doors were rusted shut and the ancient lock knobs didn't pop up. So I just sat there and took it, as we drove along a dreary and gray early-morning road.

This was weird because in real life, I've never had a conversation with her before. I don't even remember what the dream tirade was about. I think the dream version of this lady felt like I had wronged her somehow.

I remember dreaming last night about collecting eggs from these raised chicken coops. The coops were big, although in my dream I'm pretty sure I'm a little kid. So anyway my job was to collect the eggs, and it was kind of like picking the good fruit at the supermarket. Most of the eggs were baseball size or maybe a little smaller which was odd, and alot of them were wierdly shaped with wrinkled, bumpy and rough shells. Some of the shells were so oddly formed that the yolk peeked out from inside and if I turned it the yolk would break and poor out. So the ones I didn't like I smashed on the ground, and unfortunately I tossed some of the ones I thought were good for throwing. I did kind of feel bad for wasting all these eggs but I had a couple of good ones. The part that stays in my mind the most was trying to take the eggs from the rooster's coop(?) right, apparently in my dream reasoning, the rooster was apparently a kind of egg laying rooster. So I had to sneak these three big ugly eggs away from him, the first two were easy but the third was a leetle tricky but I got it, that's all I remember.

I was watching Barbara Walters interview Michel Jackson on TV. MJ got so distressed about Walters' questions about his physical appearance, he had an on-air rockstar meltdown. "LOOK AT ME!," he yelled. He then pulled off his wig to reveal tufts of scragly grey Jerri curls. "ARE YOU SHOCKED?," he asked. "WELL WAIT 'TILL YOU SEE THIS!" He then lowered the top of his head towards the camera to reveal a giant bald spot. Here's the interesting part: The skin underneath his hair was splotchy in color, so it would appear that in my dream, he really did have that skin discoloration disease.

My house was being invaded. The robbers knew I was alone, and armed only with an airsoft pistol. I called 911. The operator told me to, "hold tight" because the calvary was "on it's way." All of a sudden, a Bugs Bunny-esque tunnnel popped up in front of me. A pig with wings stuck its head out of the tunnel. "YOU'RE THE CALVARY?", I asked. "Yes," it responded. "Me and him." The pig pointed behind out the window, and I saw the Tasmanian Devil running around, dismembering robbers. He was cussing a lot, too. "I gotta go," the pig said. This morning I had one of those dreams where you wake up and aren't sure if it is really happening. Dreamt that the new iTune deletes all songs that weren't from CD or bought from iTunes store to combat piracy. My music library had been wiped out.

It was one of those dreams where my consciousness was observing other people in action. A witch that looked like Narsha from Brown Eyed Girls was being attacked by malevolent invisible supernatural forces. A friendly invisible force told her that she could tap into the life essence of her familiar, a little sausage dog, to create an interdimensional escape portal. Yellow light shot out from the dog's eyes and mouth and created a small opening shaped like a square. As soon as it opened, it started to close, so the witch leaped in head first, and found herself in blue landscape filled with streams of energy shooting past her at fast rates. Then I woke up.

This was the most comic book-like dream I've ever had.

It was the kind of dream that you don't want to wake up from. Everyone was kissing my butt. My coworkers, my boss, my TWO imaginary girlfriends.

"...You did such a great job on the project! We'd be lost without you!..."

"...You're always so thoughtful and nice!..."

Then I woke up and it was dark, damp and cold outside.

had a dream that we had left a t-rex egg to hatch and it had hatched without us knowing. the insides of the egg were rotted but the t-rex was barely alive.

last dream I had involved a cow laying on it's side and a bull coming over to it and tipping it over. At this point the cow revealed 5 vaginas and the bull continued to do what a bull does best. He then rolled over the cows face with his crotch area. The cow seemed to be enjoying it.

There was some other things going on but I don't really remember them.

The cold and stormy weather is getting to me. I dreamed about a beach outing last night.

In the dream, one of my companions brought a picnic basket filled with "beach bread," tall and thick slices of soft white bread studded with substantial chunks of meat and veggies. "It's perfect for the beach," she said, "because it's convenient to make and eat." To make it, she just tossed the meat and veggie bits into her bread maker. I had never seen anything like it before.

I googled "beach bread" just now, and I came up with this:

The real beach bread is not the same as the version in my dream, but it looks good too. I wonder what will happen if I develop a craving for the imaginary version from my dream? That's going to be a tough itch to scratch.

I dreamed that I was part of the Williamsburg Community Theatre's production of Annie. Everyone had a lumberjack beard. Even the little woman playing Annie. We refused to sing "Tomorrow" because that's what the audience wanted us to do.
