i ran out of my usual cheap-o silicone hair gunk. what hair gunk should i try next? i don't want my head to feel like it got doused with vaseline.

hm, what kind of hair product are you looking for? i don't know much about waxes, what exactly are you looking for this product to do? i do believe that redken makes a decent hair wax, as well as great pomades.

i use this awesome product called foundation gel by meros, a japanese company. it keeps stray hairs down without making my hair feel the slightest bit greasy.

bed head's okay... i just don't want to spend $20 on the stuff.

my hair's approximately 2 1/2 inches long and i'm trying to get it to stick up. the last hairdresses did a chop job and now i sort of look like joan jett run through a weed whacker, so i might as well make the best of it.

bumble and bumble's sumo wax. trust me on this one. it's a little pricey but it's worth it. i've tried every type of wax and hair gunk out there and this is by far the best. if you don't want that much shine, use their sumo-tech which has more of a matte finish to it. both products are good because they don't get your hair all fugly and greasy. they also hold extremely well and are easy to wash out. if you have longer hair, try mixing the wax with their styling creme. muy bueno.

a couple of hair dressers had recommended i use hand cream which for me was a bit too thin...so I tried..the body shop's body butter..it smells nice and has the consistancy of 'fudge' or molding mud...it's cheaper too...i just knick some of my girlfriends..

You aren't joking. I just got turned onto that stuff by a coworker. Holy crap! It scares me a little bit to be honest, that is some serious hold!

I use, interchangeably, American Crew Fiber, Aveda Pomade, some new pomade from The Body Shop, and now Ice Spiker.

bought some of the gatsby hair clay... the one in the flat twist top hexagonal shaped container..

didnt like it at all... as herrokitty mentioned, its very waxy.. hard to wash out...

felt it didnt hold very well, just left my hair feeling gluggy... gave it to a girl, who liked it for her wavy permed hair..

I've been using d:fi dstruct molding creme. I really like it. It holds the hair but it doesn't make it stiff and it's pliable hours later.

question: some of these hair wax products claim to be water proof. so does this mean it doesn't come off when you wash your hair?

thanks for the suggestion guys..how much does the redken go for and where can i get it?

anyway i picked up some gatsby mat type whatever that means, i tried it out this morning and it seems to do the trick. my hair is wavy and a lil on the thick side so i dont put alot in to begin with cuz i feel like it wouldjust weight it down..

YelloKitty
06-16-2005, 08:59 AM
hey ry, you can get redken at salons or beauty supply stores, maybe even at ulta. i think they run at $14 to $17 around here. but the loreal one is $3 to $5. my brother has the same type of hair you do (he used to have curly hair, but now it's just wavy and really thick); if gatsby doesn't work out for you, you should definitely try these.

i got a haircut in bangkok at the shiseido salon, the first time i've been to a classy place.. never been to a hairdresser before haha

but yeah when the lady was styling my hair, i noticed she mixed some gel with some blue stuff, the container was labelled water pomade. i ended up buying the gel (senscience smooth geelee) but when using it it's pretty much useless... i'm guessing it needs to be mixed with water pomade for it to stick? do you guys have any suggestions? thanks!

I think I just found my new fave hair wax/pomade, Pureology's DryShine Styler. I like the wet/greased look and I've tried every damned product there is from Dapper Dan to Murray's (shit is thick!), Dax, Bumble & Bumble. You name it, I've had it in my locks.

The dryshine stuff is awesome. A little pricey. Looks great worked in wet or dry. Not too sticky, washes out easily. Smells real nice. And the best part? It's vegan so people like Fightgenie can eat it with a spoon and not feel guilty.

For Men, a Lesson in Follicular Chemistry (http://www.nytimes.com/2006/07/27/fashion/27skin.html?ref=fashion)

From this week's NYTimes. I have typical Asian hair so weak shit (water based) doesn't work for me. The Murray's and Dapper Dan type pomades hold well, but are way to greasy and hard to wash out. I've found Paul Mitchell Dry Wax works well for me though.

Though when I shampoo I like to add back some moisture to be able to condition my coarse ass hair otherwise it sticks out. Using some Korean balm right now, but am a bit worried when it runs out. Maybe some leave-in conditioner or balm mentioned it the article would work. Just hate dropping $15 on a tin of something and for it to suck.

Ran out of my regular pomade this morning so had to go with my long-forgotten backup,

Murray's is truly industrial grade grease, you'll pretty much be able to see through your pillowcases eventually. I only used it once, I put the jar on the stove until it all melted, then I scooped out a huge goop and slicked back my hair just to goof around. So hard to wash out.

I just ordered some Gatsby Matte hair wax, even though I don't typically do anything to my hair because it makes everything look so unnatural, maybe something matte would help with that problem.
