......has a kid_robotron that loves them.
As mentioned in a previous thread I'm a big fan of Osaka's most famous daughters. Anyone else?
OK so its probably been done before, but I was just wondering.

i got turned on to them pretty late in the game. still, i think they're amazing. I hope I get to see them live someday...
Off of the Happy Hour album I love Jackalope, Fish Eyes, Hot Chocolate, and People Traps.

Same here. About the only album I have from them (that I could even find) is Rock Animals. It has some good tracks (especially "Cobra Vs. Mongoose"), but it's not exactly their best work either.

I had:
Lets Knife
Brand New Knife
Happy Hour
Alas my ex took them back to Hong Kong and I can't find them in the shops. Still, at least I have them on MP3.

They played live at the Casbah in san Diego around '97. They rawked. I got to talk to most of them, but Naoko was hiding from me.

I geeked out and flew to
Japan in 98 just to see
them play because they
didn't drop by Honolulu
on their last US tour.
There's a new album due
out soon (May 23rd) but it'll
probably be Japan only.

I'm soo sad the whole group isn't together anymore. I got into the band with their Happy Hour albulm. I wished I could have caught them at Lee's Palace when they came in 2000 they played 2 weeks before I picked up their albulm, I truly thought they'd be back.... but I guess they won't. Ah well, sometimes luck isn't on my side.
Just a tip guys if you all even care, but here in the IN/KY area all the Best Buys carry a lot if not all of Shonen Knifes albums. As well as Butter 08, Buffalo Daughter, Chibo Matto, and Puffy. I hope this helps. Good Luck!!
Happy Hunting,
Jason
i hugged the drummer..it was kinda weird though...

I'm bumping this thread because I have to throw some love out for these guys. Oh. My. God.
I was walking around the city in a dream today because every new song that came on my headphones made me smile like a retard.
it's hard not to love songs called:
"I am a cat"
"hot chocolate"
and
"extra sensory perception"
thank you. have a nice day.

I was a fan. I saw them in SF back in 1993 or 1994, I think. I really liked them until I saw them live... they all kept throwing the rocker/devil sign like they were all hardcore or something.... and every time some fan would try to rush the stage, they would kinda panic and step back... but the thing was, the crowd was super Geek Rock and all the guys trying to jump on stage were really scrawny and cutesy.
After that, I reconsidered my feelings for Shonen Knife and invested in some Sekiri albums.

I recently bought Let's Knife used. I put it in after like 2 months (I buy music faster than I can listen), and it was like classical guitar. I was shocked, it wasn't what I expected at all. I skipped foward a few tracks, more classical guitar... I get pissed and take out the CD. Its some random guitarist's CD. You know, the type that calls themselves "The _first name_ _last name_ Experience". The store I bought it at is about 400 miles away. Grrrrrr.

Wesley Willis? Come on, they have more lyrics than that... They're at least on a Ramones level as far as lines per song go.
I think 714 is the right balance of raw energy and production. That was a good era for them.

I was planning a July vacation and a friend in Osaka got me a ticket for their 7/11 show.
7/12 is Shonen Knife day. I think they're playing in Tokyo that day, probably Shibuya.

Knitting Factory is nice. Small, cozy and clean. You walk in through a narrow hallway that leads to a room with a bar. Than through some other doors (near the restroom) into the main stage - standing room mostly with a few token tables and chairs on the outskirts. There's a balcony upstairs that has tables by the railing.
