View Full Version : The Tick

04-17-2001, 01:10 PM
Read about The Tick being a live action show on Fox. Patrick Warburton will be the Tick. Warburton is that guy in Seinfeld who was Elaine's on and off boyfriend.

I'm not sure how they are going to recreate the wild action of the cartoon. Hopefully they don't mess up the stories.

Damn! Someone beat me to the Spoon remark. Live action Tick...hhmmm. It has the potential to suck. Then again it may reek of awesomeness.Warburton is the right man for the job tho.

I saw the pilot for the show last december in one of my film classes for fun. I don't know if it did the cartoon any justice, since I've never had the chance to see the cartoon.

i don't know about the idea of a live action "tick" series. one of the things that made the original cartoon so endearing is the fact that it was done with that really shitty looking animation that all the other superhero shows use. regardless, this was purely nostolgic and lent to the satire. the writing and storylines were awesome too. i think that bring the tick into the live-action world would make about as much sense as when the ninja turtles were bought-out and mass-produced. the entire point of the original ninja turtles comic books was that it was a satire of your run of the mill crime-fighting genre. when it went to saturday mornings and merchandising and happy meals, it became exactly what it was mocking and the original point become moot. that is probably what will happen if "the tick" goes prime-time.

Warburton is gold. He could read the phone book and be hilarious. I think he would make a good Tick

the cartoon was awesome. i'm bummed they canned it on comedy central syndication.
dunno about the live action. it got pushed back from 1 or 2 seasons ago, which isn't promising. but the genius about the cartoon and comic book lay in the writing and the calvacade of characters.
the action figures for the live action show are coming out too.

Is that guy the same guy who played David Puddy on Seinfeld? He was pretty funny.

I never saw much of the cartoon, but the original comic was brilliant. The ads on Fox look pretty good.

is it just me or did that first episode really suck? i thought there were some classic tick-isms, but overall i was kind of weirded out.

what was with Captain Liberty (American Maid) and Bat Manuel (Die Fledermaus) going all porno on the rooftops?

*sigh*

No, it did suck. I thought the cartoon version was funnier.
Give it a chance though, the next episode might suck less.

You didn't miss much. I give it 3 shows until it's moved to a Friday slot, then another 3 before it's cancelled.

Aaaah.. little wooden boy! Have they shown the civic minded five yet? Haven't had a chance to see any of the episodes. Oh and an epsiode with proto clown would be pretty cool.

funnier.

batmundo and the moth are mildly amusing. otherwise the show blows. i prefer the cartoon.

last night's episode was disappointing. i thought the writing was decent but more suited for an adult cartoon show. the acting was ok, considering what they had to work with. i wish they went with animated format rather than live action.
it's not something i'd program my vcr for. but if it's on, i'd watch it (if there are no better alternatives).

My sentiments exactly. If this show lasts more than half a season
I'll be amazed.

He just ISN'T BIG ENOUGH!!! Most of the funny came from the contrast in his size and his child-like innocence.

Agreed. I especially liked the sidekicks episode. Friendly Fire rules!

it may not be as clever as the animated series, which of course was not quite as clever as the comic.

however, i have to give it mad points for being remarkably stylized for network television.

the bloody thing should be on with the rest of fox's sunday night cleverness.

It's more charming than hilarious.

It'll all be over in two episodes. File the Tick under "cult TV shows that didn't make it through one season".

Shit, I was just beginning to like it too.

the tick has so many great lines.
