Wow, your shit sounds all professional and stuff. Nice work, loc.

Th' following are some unmixed, horribly derivative tunes I made last night on th' worst 4-track in th' world :

improv guitar ballad

total Rakim bite

recent mix (still some rough spots) of my "stew" song - made out of bits and pieces from various other songs of mine and some friends, altered and diced and spliced

right now it has a bit of silence at the front, and then fades in over a few seconds. i need to fix a bunch of EQ details and some levels, and change the exits from some of the break-style parts.. and fix the ending a little too. but other than that i like it.

i gave it a new name, Weather. it is a little less than 6 minutes atm, a tad long for this kind of thing perhaps...

streaming mp3

regular mp3 (8.8MB)

plz give any constructive feedback.

i know it's a weird song, i make weird trancey music sometimes, so don't expect a Beatles tune or verse-chorus-verse!

to be honest, i like the second one better i like the distorted sound of the drums/sample and the underwatery/lo-fi vocal sound. is that guitar you are using for the weird additional percussive kinda sounds ?

some recent shit:
haze
something between woozy & confusion

striving for clarity.

woozy - yes, very nice clean/pro sound. i like the pretty vocal sample at the front that u use throughout. what did you use to mess with that sample? the altering it does in different parts sounds cool. the song has a sorta illbient sound i guess, even though it's not that dark from the pretty vocal background... i like the little electronic sounds changing in the background in woozy, sorta like electronic bells or something. also, very nice tight use of minimal samples, not much reverb or delay, everything is very clear and up front in the mix.

have you heard a guy named Req? i have a CD of his from years ago that is really good - your stuff reminds me a little of his, but yours sounds more modern with the little sounds and the nice clean production. i cant find my copy atm, but it's on amazon as Req One - i never saw anything else by him, which is unfortunate.

the haze one is more trancey and doesnt hold my interest as well. it's almost a little too clean for me.. i like the drum sound though a lot, and the little changes throughout are very tight.

the synth work in the beginning is pretty cool and it works pretty well with the slow drums, though they do sound a lil muddled. i don't know if im crazy about these female vocals though they do somewhat fit...
the liquidy double bass hit that comes in and out is pretty dope.

this is pretty cool though a bit sluggish for me... it'd be nice if there was some sort of apex towards the end, like the synths get all distorted and the drums start doubling up, but i guess thats not the vibe you're after.

here's some hip hop funk shit that i've been working on:
slow chaser
i know i gotta EQ the basslines better...

cool, thanks for the feedback. yea, i need to work on the ending and coming out of the breaks where the drums drop out esp. the vocals are three different backwards sippets i took from another song, so they definitely sound "different". as for an apex, i agree, that distorted idea is a good one.. the drums have been through several phases of processing, and on the mix before last i thought they were too bright so i chopped the high end a lot. sounds like i should add a bit back in.

i will give some feedback on your song as soon as i get a chance to listen to it.

Oh no, it's my new hair-metal tune!

Note : this song is not supposed to be funny, it's supposed to be heart-wrenching.

are you sure it's not supposed to be funny?

hehe..

actually, it reminds me of a T-Rex song with those vocal harmonies. put in a bass line and a rhythm guitar and you're all set for stardom!

nice remarks, much appreciated.

in regards to your new crew, i think yall should just practice and get better, build on a style and identity. then the name will fall into place.

thanks for checking.
peace.

sounds excellent.. i like that low bass tone, don't EQ it away!

the operatic vocal sample-thing is perty nifty too.

slow and groovy, mellow but holds the interest throughout in a trancey kinda way.
