i'm thinking of buying a skateboard...

just to get to classes quickly and all, nothing special. i used to skate when i was a lil gal but gave up several years ago.

so what should i get? like what kind of wheels, trucks, etc.

keep in mind i don't plan on doing any tricks or anything, i just wanna cruise to my classes more efficiently. are long boards a good idea?

no offense to long board lovers but whenever i see those things i feel like taking it and slamming it on the window of the nearest riced out civic.

get a ccs blank! you can get em on the cheap and its the same shit.. is ccs still around??

If you not gonna be doing anything "hardcore" it doest matter much what deck you get. Just go to a shop and get a nice blank that you like and some indy trucks. Pick up some wheels that you think will suit you best (bigger faster).

even if you get a blank regular sized board, big, fat, soft long board wheels might be a good idea.

i used to skate to school on a setup like that, and big wheels help to smooth out all the cracks and rocks on the road that you dont tend to pay enough attention to before 9am classes

faster too.

a big long board will be more of a hassle, wont fit under desks, heavier. there are some smallish long-boards that are okay. sector nine has some kinda banana shaped little one that are super fun for cruising around

I was in the same mindset as you until recently, when I picked up a new deck. I got a good cheap blank (I hear good things about CCS), some Thunder trucks with bis ass 61mm Spitfire wheels, and a couple of risers so my big wheels had clearance. Ya don't want it to rub, y'know. It's fun, and not huge. I went to my local surk/skate shop (Val-surf) and told the official "dude" what I was looking for and why and he hooked me up in a very efficient way. Put the thing together and everything. Alternately, I've seen a number of online companies that offer assembled complete blank skateboards with optional good parts for a good price. check out http://www.ccs.com , http://www.eastcoastskates.com or just do a search and see what you come up with. Good luck!

Don't forget, if you get a blank deck, get busy with the paint, stencils, crayons, stickers or whatever your artistic media of choice is. It makes it better.

yea... i'm not too loyal to brandz.. i get down with whateva. yea.. if yer not doin tricks.. which you should reconsider :P .. you can get most anything s'long as you likes the shape and stuff..

im currently rockin a blank deck that i painted all striped up with a chococat sticker on it.. the hardware is indep' trucks and possibly spitfire wheels.. from may last board setup that emp and friends hooked me up with on my birfday!

I'm currently rollin on a ten dollar(marked down from 300) board I got from Hastings. It's orange and has angry asian cartoon people on it. I weigh 250. It'll probably break on a rail-slide I fuck up attempting to do, but i figure any board will do that.

anyways, if u're not a hardcore skater and just wanna use it for transpo & fun.. then u could do what i did..(i got lotsa crap about it frm the hardcore people here)..
i got a world industries lightweight on EBAY. there's this company that puts em up regularly. it's new adn they assemble it for you.. I like it alot.. my wheels are i think 17mm.. and it has wet willy and flame boy fighting on it.. and since it's small & light, it's easy to carry around with u.. i got mine for like 76 bucks including EVERYTHING (assembly +s&h). it took me a while to get a deal like that tho.. i kept on getting outbidded last minute so i just bidded on a grip of boards at a time which is risky and not recommended..
But anyways, i got a nice practical cute board for a goood price and it's still in great condition (duh! cuz i dont do any tricks w/it .. only has leaves and scratches on the nose & butt)

Even if you're just cruising it, much love to girls on boards!
Longboard might be good, with some bigger than average wheels that are on the softer than normal side.
Love to give you a hands-on (wink! wink!) tutorial on the finer aspects of skateboarding 101 sometime.
Good luck cruising it, and hopefully you'll graduate to a tech setup soon, whereby you can start ollieing trash cans and smith grinding those 20 stair handrails on campus!

target has fine skateboards, i plan to get one. i've always wanted to be a skate hooligan, or in a member of the local death squad. and threaten other peoples lives with tricks like in that white kaps 'get beer' video.

seeing how you are in the land of giant robot, it only makes perfect sense to get a deck by hook-ups. i don't recall a design with a yellow kitty per se, but there are designs that involve catsuits, which is always a good thing.
