weird, i thought you'd know about The River. ABC is really trying to hype it up. i've watched all the episodes so far, and it's "ok". the premise is kinda dumb. i like to call it a cross between Apocalypse Now and Steve Irwin the Croc Hunter, with a little sprinkle of Serpent and the Rainbow.

it's from the same guy that produced/directed Paranormal Activity. so basically every episode is a like an elaborate setup for a couple of creepy/scary scenes. all the dialogue and boat riding is just filler for time. i'll keep watching it for the creepy scenes. but the story and slasher movie acting makes the show a little painful to watch.

The River is pretty entertaining, as long as you keep your expectations low. i suspect that the story will drag, and will eventually get cancelled early.

Alcatraz, on the other hand, is pretty decent. not too thrilled with casting. the blond chick and the fat dude from Lost.. come on, really? such a mismatched pair.

Maybe I'll check it out. Right now I'm really into Justified and Walking Dead. Wouldn't mind adding a few more interesting shows to the rotation.

Interestingly, it looks like they used the mecha concept from the anime adaptation of the novel.

If you haven't read the novel, the Mobile Infantry is sort of mechanized. Not to the extent that they pilot mecha, but that they enter battlefields from orbit in drop-pods, and that they are outfitted with jump-jets, personal armor, and all kinds of badass handheld nuclear weaponry. Definitely unlike the first movie (which I still liked, btw).

I thought it was Hadassah, the Jewish baby allegedly beheaded by Palestinians.
