Went to Ghibli a few days ago and paused to view the river across from where Dazai's memorial plaque is placed. There was a poster up at the train station exit. There must be some kind of exhibit up.

I've read the The Setting Sun and No Longer Human a couple of years a go, without knowing who he is at first. His books is superb, and quite depressing.

a little search in google and wiki I found out that both titles is now adapted into movies in 2009, and Takeshi Obata the artist who draw Death Note and Hikaru No Go make cover illutration for the new reprint of the No Longer Human novel.



There is also plan to make animes for No Longer Human, Run, Melos! Akutagawa's Jigoku Hen and Soseki Natsume's Kokoro

ah, sweet memories. I wish I had gotten to go to akutagawa's grave, but alas I didn't get to stay in Japan as long as anticipated.

Man, his short story 'Handsome Devils and Cigarettes' is a pretty funny read. Dazai posed with some homeless kids in Ueno Park, the press snapped a bunch of publicity photos and when he showed his wife the photos she mistook him for one of the bums.
