Yup, I got bruises up all along my shins, I've got scabs and scratches too.

Dragging the bar over a scab is the worst. Deadlifts suck.

if you guys are scraping your shins during deadlifts, then you need to examine your form.

I've heard scrapes and deadlifts go pretty much hand-in-hand. Part of it is the bar - I was using an Oly bar last week with "fresh" knurling, so it was pretty sharp/rough, with that I can see scrapes happening no matter how perfect the form might be.

I can see another reason being the speed of the lift. If someone was going slow and methodically, I doubt scrapes would happen (although in my case I am somehow able to bruise myself); but for people who are powering through their lifts, scrapes could easily happen.

i would side on the form reason as slackerbot mentioned.

googled the subject and found one article on livestrong.com saying otherwise. but they referenced mark rippletoe who i don't agree with on some lifting advice.

it might look strange at the gym but you could try shin guards if it continues to be a problem. or tough it out and earn your badges of courage.

yeah, 3rd round of deadlifts for speed as part of a crossfit style drill and your form starts to get a little shaky.

That's one of the bigger knocks against CrossFit: Sacrificing form to punch out more reps.

One can get away with bad/imperfect form at a lighter weight, but man, if some of those CrossFitters go heavy they will wreck themselves.

oh this is for crossfit. just go lighter. crossfit isn't a regular lifting. adding speed and endurance will force you to suffer on the strength side.

So the latest brainchild of the 'paleo' guys that I work with is heavy cream lattes.

Can't figure out what is Paleolithic about that or what nutritional benefits that actually provides.

Again, I just shake my head.

I've been really slacking with going to the gym and lifting. I got a job at FedEx where I lift heavy and awkwardly shaped objects for 3 to 4 hours a day

If I had a job like that, I'd focus on stretching/flexibility and cardio/recovery.

I sit at a desk all day. Sucks.

I've been moving into our new house, so I've been lifting all kinds of shit and carrying up and down stairs.

Only getting like one good meal a day too, so I look thinner than normal but I haven't lost any weight on the scale.

Back and shoulders are super tight and sore/tired.

These guys are just taking what they normally eat and then doing everything they can to make it 'paleo friendly'.
