is it possible to install iTunes on and run it from an external hard drive? or will it invariably install a bunch of crap onto the same drive as my operating system? I just want to put some songs from a CD onto an iPad. I don't want to have iTunes runnning on my PC, constantly connecting to Apple's servers and updating shit and running a bunch of processes and crap when I'm not even using it. I already have Adobe and other bloated programs doing that nonsense. iTunes is that like times a gillion.

won't work. the iCloud site says you need iTunes on your Mac or PC to use iTunes in iCloud. they are shooting themselves in the foot with this walled garden approach. install iTunes just to transfer an mp3?
